1. Call to Order, 4 :35 p.m.
2. Roll Call: Present: Councilmembers Addiego, Garbarino and
Gupta, Mayor Pro Tem Matsumoto* and
Mayor Gonzalez.
Mayor Pro Tem Matsumoto arrived at 4:45 p.m.
3. Public Comments — comments are limited to items on the Special Meeting
Agenda.
4. City Manager Recruiter Interviews.
City Attorney Mattas presented the staff report noting that since Bob Murray & Associates had
withdrawn its candidacy for the recruitment, Peckham & McKenney and Avery & Associates
were the remaining firms and would be presented for interview this evening. Paul Kimura of
Avery & Associates would appear before Council and Bobbi Peckham of Peckham & McKenney
would be available for telephone interview, as she was presently out of state on business. He
advised Council was not obligated to make a decision this evening and could direct staff to
broaden its search for a recruiting firm outside of the traditional scope of top tier firms.
Upon inquiry from City Attorney Mattas, Council determined not to ask specific and/or set
questions of the applicants, but rather to question based on the applications and to develop
questions through the course of the dialogue,
Paul Kimura of Avery & Associates appeared before Council and was interviewed.
Bobbi Peckham of Peckham & McKenney was interviewed by Council via telephone conference.
5. Closed Session: Public Employee Appointment
(Pursuant to Government Code Section 54957)
Title: City Manager.
Time entered Closed Session: 5:21 p.m.
Open Session resumed: 6:23 p.m.
Report out of Closed Session: No reportable action taken.
6. Adjournment.
Being no further business, Mayor Gonzalez adjourned the meeting at 6:23 p.m.
