HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 1920-09-20 Regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of South San Francisco held ~onday September the £Oth., 1920, at Z10 Linden Avenue. T~e meeting was called to order by G.W.~olston, President of the Board, at 8 O'clock ROLL CALL.. Roll c~ll foun~ the following Trustees present to-wit;- F.~.Cunningham, H.~ampini~WoEolston. Absent, Trustees, A.J.Eschelbach, L.G.Hardy, Jr. Trustee Hardy appeared after roll call. Th& minutes of the previous were re~d and upon motion of Trustee Cunningh~m seconded by Trustee Scampini and regularly carried were approved, other A delegation of business men representing the dry goods&interes~appesred before the Board and ~sked its co-operation in the matter of closin~ certain business stores at 8 O'clOck, pm., in order to conserve light and power. It was also requested that the Board take some action in advising other business houses , such as poolrooms,soft drink places and $otels to put out front and show window lights at the same hour. The clerk~was instructed to dr~w up aletter to this effect giving suggestions and instructions of the Power ~dministration of the State of California ,bearing on the subject, and i · one of the City officers together with the City Trustees visit the different stores and rel~ue the owners to use every endeavor to comply with the Power Administration's request. The Clerk w~s instructed to notify W.L.Hickey to'repair streets and alleys where he had torn up concrete work in putting in laterals, etc., and to have the same attended to immediately. The Clerk was also instructed to notify the So. S.F.Water bo., ~o replace the top of the pavement in front of the City Hall. Andrew ltynding and Dr. F.S.Dolly appe~red~before the Bocrd ~nd urged the planting of trees They were given every assurance that the Board would appropriate a considerable sum of money for this purpose later on in the year. A communication was received from City Engineer ~eo. A.Kneese showing the work of buildi the factory district sewer had been conpleted September the 4th and details given of extras, estimates, payments and balances due. B~l~nce due September the ~th, $Z99,94, and ~2§ retained until ~0 days after the completion of the work, $6906.96,. due on Oct ~he 4th. Report accepted. An offer to construct the balance of the Factory sewer under the S.P.tracks, not included in the original bid was made by C.B.Cowden. He offered to do the work for $7900, No action take~ City Marshall C.C~Conrad made application for a leave of absence for ten days. Gr~nted. In answer to an inquiry from the Board of Trustees of this City, regarding the amount of reduction the City might ~xpect from the P.G.&E on account of turning the City's lights off two hours earlier in the mornings, Mansger Florence stated that his auditing department was working out the figures and he would let the City know ~s soon ~s he received the same. Accepted. A .Revellc asked permission to repair the roof of his building, S.W. corner ~f Grand Ave. and San Bruno ~oad, the cost to be not in excess of $350. On motion of Trustee Cunningham seconded by Trustee Sc~pini and regularly c~rried the request was granted. An ordin~.nce fixing the number of meetings to be held by the Board of Trustees of the City of South San Francisco in each month and the time and p~ace of holding ~Ne same, was ~ntroduced by Trustee Hardy and had its first reading. The following resolution was introduced by Trustee ~ardy;- Resolved by the Board of Trustees of the City of South San Francisco thai that certain deed, dated Zugust the 28th 1~20, wherein South Son Francisco Land and Improvement ~ompany, a corporation organized and existing under the laws o~ the State of California,conveys to s~id City of South San Frz, ncisco an easement £or the construction, maintenance and use of a public highway only uponand across the land in the City of South San Francisco, county of San Msteo, State of California,described as £o!lows, to-wit;- ,~ .... A~strip of lend (60) sixty feet in width, the Westerly boundry line of which is coincident with the Easterly boundry line of the right of way of the Bay Shore line of Southern Pacific ~oilroad 6ompany, which strip of l~nd extends from the Northerly boundry line of Swift Zvemue to the southerly boundry.line of Butler Road, be , and the same hereby is accepted. Resolution Fixing the Tax Rate for Fiscal Year 1920-1921 The following resolution w~s introduced by Trustee Cunni~gham;- Resolved by the Board of Trustees of the City of South ~an Francisco that the number of ( to be paid to said City of South San Francisco upon each One Hundred (100) dollars of the propertl taxable by said municipality within said City of ~outh San Francisco, and hereby levied upon for the purposesof the seweral funds hereinafter named for the fiscal year beginning July the lat., 1920, and ending June the 30th 1921, be, and the same hereby are designated as follows;- ON ~LL PRoPERTYCONT£~N~ WITHIN THE ORIGINAL CORPORATE BOUND~RIES 0~' SAiD CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO. General Fund, NINETY-EIGHT cents; (98) of municipal improvement ~ewe~ bonds, Thirteen (1Z) cents; Fund for thepayment Library fund, Nine (9) cents, Fund for the payment of municipal improvement bonds, Series 1919, Twenty (20) cents.
