January 2nd,1923.
The meeting was called to order at 7;50 o'clock p.m. by Trustee G.W.Holston, President of the
Board.
ROLL,ALL.
Roll call found the following Trustees present, to-wit;!~
Trustees, F.A.Cunningham, A.J.E$chelbach, H.Scampini, G.W.Holston.
Absent, Trustee, J.W.~itt.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and upon motion of. Trustee Scampini seconded
by Trustee Cunningham and regularly carried were approved'as read.
A petition was received from Tippecanoe Tribe No.lll, Redmen,asking permission to hold a
dance in Fraternal Hall, Saturday evening, January 6th,1923. Permission granted.
Acommunication was received from the So. San Francisco Ld. & Improvement Co. stating that
the Butler Road was in need of repairs, /l~;~ offering to repair the section not dedicated to the city ,
and asking the city to repair the section from San Bruno Road th the Shaw-Batcher plant. The city
engineer was instructed to secure macadam from the Civic Center Site and repair the road.
The Manufacturer's Association wrote the Board requesting information as to when work on the
Swift AVenue sidewalk would commence. The clerk was instruct'ed to reply stating that owing to the
continued wet weather it would be about two months before the contemplated work could be under way.
A communication was received from the State Railroad Commission calling attention to the
survey of grade crossings in this part of ~anMateo County. The report stated that the crossing at
Butler Road is not protected by advance warni~g~signs as prescribed in section 22 of the Motor Vehicle
Act. Marshal Conrad was instructed to secure the necessary~sign and have the same placed in position.
Joseph Pacheco requested permission to construct a sleeping room in the restaurant part of
his building, $96 Grand Avenue. Action delayed until the premises can be inspected.
A petition was received from the Chief and Secretary of the Fire Department requesting that
a cupboard, sink, gas plate and gas be installed in the fire house for the benefit of the firemen.
Request granted.
J F.A.Cunningham made application to the Board for permission to construct a two story reinfor-
ced concrete building on lot ~18, Block ~124, Map of So. San Francisco,. said building to contain two
stores and six three room apartments. Plans and specifications were filed with the petition. The
estimated cost of the structure is $25,000. Permission granted.
Applications for pool room licenses were received from Nickerson & Stanley, T.C.Connolly,
Angelo Genovesi and Ernest Galli and on motion regularly carried were granted by the following vote.
Ayes, Trustees, F.A.Cunningham,A.J.Eschelbach, H.Scampini, G.W.Holston.
Noes, Noae.
Absent, Trustee, J.W.Pitt.
Twenty-five applications were received for soft drink licenses and on motion regularly
carried all were denied by the following vote;-
Ayes, Trustees. F.A.Cunningham, A.J'.Esehelbach, H.Scampini, G.W.Holston.
Noes, None.
Absent, Trustee, J.W.Pitt.
The reports of the Fire Chief, City Treasurer, City Recorder, City ~arshal,Health Officer
and City Clerk for the month ending December 31 st,1922 were next read. The report of the City Recorder
showed collections for the month of $58.00, while the report of the City Clerk showed the gollowing
balances in the various funds;- General Fund,$27,648.36, Library Fund $3,675 ll, Sinkin~ fund for
Sewers, $2,8?6.18,'Factory District Sewer Fund, $719.82, 1919 Bonds,$~,397,36; Anti-tubercular fund, .
62 48, Street Bonds, Set "A",$116.01. Ser "B", $46.11, Ser. "C", $183.56, Set. "D" $603.?6, Ser. "E"
36~61, Ser. "F", $466.56, Ser. "G", $10~1;94. Total balance in a3l funds, $44,86~.~5. On motion of
Trustee Cunningham seconded by Trustee Eschelbach and regularly carried the re~orte were accepted as
read.
An Ordinance, entitled;-
"ANORDINANCE OF TME CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO CREATING THE OFFICE OF BUILDING INSPECTOR,
PRESCRIBING HIS DUTIES AND PROVIDING FOR THE ISSUANCE OF BUILDING PEKMITS"
was introduced by Trustee Scampini, had its first reading, and was laid over to come up
under the regular order of business at the next regular meeting.

The motion was seconded by Trustee, Eschelbach and regularly carTied.
There being no further business before the Board Trustee Scampin! moved to adjourn until the
next regular meeting. Monday, January 15th.1923. The motion was s~conded by Trustee Eschelbach
and regularl~ carried.
