HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 1923-01-15 Regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of South San Francisco held Nonday,~ January 15th,1923. The meeting was called to order at & ?;30 o'clock p.m. by Trustee G.W.Holston, President of the Board. Roll Call. Roll call found the following Trustees present, to-wit;- Trustees ~.A.Cunningham, A.J.Eschelbach, H.Scampini, G.W.Holston. Absent, Trustee J.W.Pitt. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and upon motion of Trustee Cunningham seconded by Trustee Eschelbach and regularly carried were approved as read. The laid over application of Joseph Pacheco for permission to-construct a sleeping apartment in the interior of his store, #96 Grand Avenue, was taken up and again laid over for investigation. A communication was received from Lloyd W.Thayer, general manager of the So. S.F Land & Improvem~ Company, asking if it were possible to secure macadam from the city to make improvements on the Butler road. It had been previously understood that the city was willing to furnish the macadam and the commun~ cation was ordered filed. An application fo~ permission to hold a dance Saturday exening, February 10th, next, was receive¢ from Bernard McCaffrey Post,~85, American Legion. Permit granted. The Merchants' Association sent a communication to the Board asking what a~tion had been taken with the Foster & Klieser Company in the matter of erecting signs for the city, The Foster & Klieser Co Company had reported to the city that they were not in the business of erecting signs for city purpose~ the Clerk was instructed to so inform the Merchants' Association. A protest was received from the Spring Valley Water Company against using the old road across thc marsh north of their pipe line for a public dump, stating that the refuse was dumped on both sides of ti road, covering their pipe line. The matter was laid over for investigation. A petition for a permit to construct a two story frame building for dwelling and store purposes was received from Assunta Barsuglia, £2£ Lu~ Avenue. It was stated that on account of the development of his cigar manufactory business at 2E~ Lux Avenue, next to the proposed new building, more room is required. The estimated cost of the building was given at $?,000. Action deferred until investigation c~n be made. Duane S. Wright made application for a restaurant license for his place of business, ~Z18 Grand Avenue. As there is no restaurant license in effect he was so instructed by the President of the Board. An application for a pool room license for the location 228 Grand Avenue, was received ~from M.C.Koop. Laid over for investigation. A statement was received from the State Compensation Insurance Fund showing dividends of $~4.6Z due the City of South San Francisco on 1919,premium. Check for the amount accompanied the statement. Accepted and filed. RESOLUTION #46. RESOLUTION APPROVING DIAGRAM. The following resolution was introduced by Trustee Scampini;- Resolved by the Board of Trustees of the City of South San Francisco that the diagram submitted by the City Engineer of said City on the 15th day of January, 1923, of the property affected and benefi' by grading,construction of concrete sidewalks, curbs and gutters and the construction of sewers and pavements in Randolph Avenue, Chapma~ Avenue,Green Avenue and Gardiner Avenue, in the City of South san Francisco, as described in ~esolution of Intention No.46, passed and adopted by the Board of Trustees of the City of South San Francisco on the 29th day of I~iay, 1922, and to be assessed to pay the expenses of said work, be, and the same is hereby approved by said Board of Trustees, and the City Clerk of said City of South San Francisco is hereby directed to certify to the fact and date of such approval and he is also directed to deliver s~id diagram so approved to the Superintendent of Streets. of said City. AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE $108 OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, ENTITLED, "AN ORDINANCE REGULATING TIlE VENDING AND DISPOSING OF BEVERAGES AND DRINKS IN THE CITY 0F SOUTH SAN FRANCISC0~ passed and ad0pted on the~.6th day of December, 1920, by adding ~WO new sedtions to be numbered 8A:and llA,~respectively, and by amending sections'12,and 1Z thereof, was formally introduced by' Trustee Scampini, had its first reading and was laid over to come up under the regular order of busines~ at the nezt regular meeting of the Board. Andrew Hynding appeared before the Board in behalf of the Chamber of Commerce and presented a request that the sidewalks, streets and ~acnat lots be cleaned, t.H.Potter also spoke to the same effect~ ~. Potter also mentioned the condition of the streets at the corner of Baden Avenue and San Bruno Road. ~ President Holston announced that the Board would ,start a ga of 2men at work 'on cleaning the principal streets of the city. Mr. Hynding then brought up the questAon of planting additional trees in the 5ity. In this connection President Holston announced that the Board would arrange for planting more trees. F.W.F.Brown then appeared before the Board and made some com~nents with reference to the pr'opo~ed amendments to Ordinance ~108. After some miscellaneous discussion with regard to the proposed amendments to Ordinance #108, the following claims a~ainst the City were ~ presented for payment.
