OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO-,
HELD MONDAY, OCTOBER lst,192~.
The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of South San Francisco was held
Monday, October lst,192Z at the City Hall.
The meeting Nas called to order at ?;30 o'clock p.m. by Trustee G.W.Holston~ president
of the Board.
ROLL CALL.
Roll call found all True'tees present, to-wit:-
Trustees, F.A.Cunningham, A.J.Eschelbach, J.W.Pitt, H.Scampini, G.W.Holston.
Absent, Trustees, None.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and upon motion by Trustee Scampini,
seconded by Trustee Pitt and regularly carried were approved as read.
A communication was received from the San Francisco Chronicle soliciting subscription
for the yearly Publicity Number to be issued early in 19~4. The price of the publication was stated to
be $2§.00. On motion regularly carried the subscription was ordered placed for the advertising
number, as requested.
A petition was received from Luigi Galiano asking for a permit to sell candies and tobacco
at his shoe re~iring shop, ~!7 Linden Avenue. ~etit~on denied.
A communication was received from the Shell Oil Company as~ing permission to conduct and
maint~in a Shell Service Station upon the South East Corner of San Bruno Road and Grand Avenue.
Permission gr~nted.
The ~outh S~n Francisco Chamber of Commerce submitted a statement showing the expense
of erecting and maintaining three s~gns at the city's approaches, and also the approximate cost of
electricity for i~lumination per month. After discussion as to the city's shzre of the expenses the
communication was ordered filed.
A petition was received from ~ario Cagnacci, 442 Baden Avenue, stating he is conducting
a grocery store at that address and had been selling imported goods there befor~ the Zone 0rdiRance
became a law, and inquiring as to whether he should close by order of the ~olice. ~aid over and
referred to the §ity Attorney for ~uvestigation and advice.
Applications for pool room licenses were received from Hattle & Duffy,#£11 Grand Avenue,
and Joe. C.Rovegno, ~hip Hotel, and granted by the following vote:-
Ayes, Trustees, F.A.Cunningham, A.J.Eschelbach, J.W.Pitt, H.Scampi~i, G.W.Holston.
Noes, Trustees, None.

An application for a soft drink license was received from ~attle & ~ffy, ~211 Grand
Avenue, and granted by the following vote:-
Ayes, Trustees, F.A.Cunningham, A.J.Eschelbach, J.W.?itt, H.Scampini, ~.W.Holston.
Noes, Trustees, None.
Absent, Trustees, None.
Stephan Garbarino of Peck's Lots addressed the Board in reference to new sewers on the
East side of San Bruno Road and in Butler Road opposite Peck's Zots, stating it ~s impossible to
construct dwellings in that vicinity owing to l~ck of sewers and also the lack of sewers for the
habitations already erected. Th~ City Attorney was i$~ructed to begin ~roceedings to hold a sewer
bond election for sewers in the East side of San Bru~in Butler Road and in the western section of
the city which is now without sewers.
Trustee Scampini stated the city w~ter wagon was loaned to the ~unicipal Improvement
Company,doing work for the City of San Bruno, and would have the same returned to South San Francisco
at an early date. The General Construction Company apparently had been using the wagon ~lso. The clerk
was instructed to ascertain the number o~ days the wagon was in use and to prepare claims against the
companies.@ $1.~0~Assistant Engineer Classen appemred before the Board in reference to the rights ex. way
for the Orange Avenue extension to Los Ceritos Tract. He was instructe~ to secure the required data
affecting the three cross ings for the Clerk so that request can be made to the various csmpanies
for the necessary rights of way.
The reports of the Electrical Inspector, City Marah~l, Health Officer, Building Inspector
City Recorder, Fire Chief and City Clerk for the month ending September Z0th, w ere received.
The report of the City Recorder showed collections of $50.00 for the month while the report of the
clerk showed the f~llowing balances in the various funds;-
. General Fund, $10,~9Z.72, Library Fund, $494.36, Sinking Fund for Sewers, $31.9~, Factory
District Sewer Fund,S469.82,, "1919" bonds, $866.69, Anti-tubercular Fund, $142.48, Street Funds~

On motion by Trustee Cunningham seconded by Trustee Eschelbach and regularly carried the
reports were accepted as read.
RESOLUTION.

RESOLUTION ~PPROVING DIAGEA~J
THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION WAS INTI{0DUCED BY TRUSTEE SC~,IPINI;-
Resolved by the Board of Trustees of the ~ity of South San Francisco that the diagram
submitted by the City Engineer of said City on the first day of October, 1923, of the property
affected and benefitted by grading, the construction of a decomposed granite sidewalk and the
construction of wooden bridges, a corrugated iron culvert and a vitrified, salt-glazed ironstone
pipe sewer, as described in nesolution of Intention ~o.~l, passed and adopted by said Board of
Trustees on the 2nd day of April, 192~, and to be assessed to pay the expenses of said work, be,
and the same hereby is approved by said Board of Tn~stees, and the City Clerk of §aid City of
South San Francisco is hereby directed to certify to the fact and date of such approval, and he ~
is also directed to deliver said diagram so approved to the Superintendent of Streets of said
City.

RESOLUTION.
THE FOLLOWING Y, ESOLdTiON T/AS INTRODUCED BY TRUSTEE 6UNNINGHJ~A[:-
Resolved by the Board of Trustees of the City of South San Francisco that said
City of South San Francisco enter into an agreement with the Trustees of the Methodist
Episcopal Church of South San Francisco for the purchase by said City of South San Francisco
from said Trustees of the Methodist Episcopal Church of South San Francisco of all that certain
lot, piece or ~arcel of land situate in the City of South San Francisco, County of San ~ateo,
State of California, and particularly described as follows, to-wit:
Lot numbered One (1) in Block numbered One Hundred and Sixteen Ill6), as shown upon
that certain map entitled "South San Francisco San Mateo Co. Plat No.l", which map was filed
in the office of the County Recorder of the County of San Mateo, California, March l, 189~,
~nd recorded in Map Book No. 2 at page 52; upon the following terms; The Purchase price shall
be Seven Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ~$7~0~.00), of which sum Four Thousand Dollars ($4000.001,
shall be paid upon the execution and delivery of the agreement herein provided for and the
remainder of said purchase price shall be paid not later than the Zlst day of October, 19~4,
such remainder of the purchase price to bear interest at the rate of seven per cent per annum.
The President of said Board of Trustees and the Oity Clerk are hereby authorized and
directed,,in the corporate n~ne of said 0ity of South San Francisco~a~d under its corporate seal,
to execute the agreement hereinbefore provided ~or and also to draw a warrant upon the Treasurer
of said City for the sum of Four Thousand Dollars ~$4000.00) payable to said Trustees of the
Eethodist Episcopal Church of South San Francisco, upon the enecution and delivery of said
agreement as aforesaid.

they be paid. The motion Eas seconded by Trustee hschelbach and regularly carried.
There being no further business before the board Trustee Pitt moved to adjourn
until Monday evening October 8th,192~, at 7;Z0 o'clock p.m. The motion was seconded by Trustee
Scampini and regularly carried.
