The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of South San Francisco was hel~ in the City Hall Monday evening December 15th,19£4. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m, by tr~stee H.F.McNellis, P~esident of the Board. ROLL CALL. Roll call found the following trustees present,to-wit;- Trustees, C.Blank,F.A.Cunningham,H.McCaffrey,H.F.McNellis. Absent, Trustee A.J.Eschelbach, Trustee Lschelbach appeared after roll call. The m~nutes of the two p~evious meetings were read and approved. A petition from a~large number of residents and proper~y owners in block 101,bounded b~ S~ruce & Magnolia Avenues and by Jrand and Baden avenues ~'equested the board to place a light in the a~ley between the streets nentioned. Trustee Eschelbach ~oved that the street committee take steps'to have two lights placed in this a~ley on account of its length. ~otion seconded by Trust~ Cunningham. · ~A rJply was received from John D.Kus~er,Manager San Jose Division of the Pacific Gas & Electric Company, regarding the ciZy's requesb for a set of blue prints of the company's system for the use of the fire department, and also a company special wrench for turning valves. ~r Kusl stated that it would be impossible to locate on any ordinary sized map the location of the meter~ imthe different premises, and also that the valves can be turned with the ordinary small wrench or pliers.~ Referred to the street committee. ~ ~ ~ ~ South San Francisco ~rove No.l~l ma~&~A~ation for~permission to hold a dance in F~ nal Hal, Saturday evening, January 10th,.~from 8 p.m. until 2 a.m. Permission granted. A communication was received from the South San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, invitin~ the Board of Trustees to participate in the general meeting of civic bodies, etc to be held in ~! City Hall, Thursday evening ~ecember 18th,1924, at ~ p.m. invitation accepted. City Engineer George Xneese submitted a report showing the progress o~ construction of the ~actory ~'ewer, ~nd an estimate of the amount due the contractors,Eaton & Smith,thir~ee~timat~ to be $6?40.55. Heport accepted and amount authorized. The protest of Herny A.Woodard,owner of lot 24, block 12Z, map of South San Francisco, against the payment of $1.~4 weed tax was again taken up and referred by the board t~City Engim~ Xneese for opinion. The engineer advised the board to reject the claim. The board so ruled. A semi-annual~report was received from the Library Board, showing receipts and expend~ tures since taking of£ice. ~he report sho~ed a balance on hand of ~1218.~§. ~oved by Trustee Cunningham ~econded by Trustee McCaffrey that the report be accepted, Carried. The matter of extending sidewalks on Greed Avenue to full wi&th was again brought to t~ attention of the board. City Engineer Kneese stated this wor~ would have been started in the pa~ but for the ~reat expense to the small property owners. No action taken. Robert Burns appeared before the board and protested against the extension of the busi: zone to include San Bruno Road to the city limits. He was instructed to take the matter up at th~ m~eting of the board when ~he zone ordinance wil~ be acted unon. Building permits were ordered issued to Sterling Poster for three cottages, one to Mrs~ RaffaePli ~nd ono to ?dward Ringue. City Marshal Belloni nade request upon ~he board for a new ~totor cycle.stating the old one is in need of repair and that an allowa~ce couPd.secured upon the old one if~-~urned~in0n mot~ by Trustee ~cOaffrey seconded by Trustee Cunningham the Marshal was instructed to procure a new motor cycle. The question whether sidewalks and streets, when accepted by the Board of Trustees, sh~ be maintained indefinitely by the municipality was asked before the bosrd. Referred to the City a~t~rney for opinion. The proposed ordinance regulating trees and ordering them a nuisance under certain conditions was next taken up. After much discussion for and against the ordinance in its presen' form no definite action was taken. ~ The ~roposed ordinance amending sections~o£ Ordinance llg, ~oft drink ordinance was la~ over till,~,a fU%ure meeting on ~ccount o£ suggested changes to be made in the matter of license f, and collecting the~same. ~,~ An 0rdenance entitled "AN ORDINANCE REGULATING THE BUSINESS OF AND THE CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE OF BILLBOARDS, FENCES, SIGNS AND 0TN~R STRUCTURES ERECTED OR USED FOR ~DVERTISING PJRPOSES iN THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO," was introduced by Trustoe McCaffrey, had its first reading and was laid over to co~e up at ~he ~ regular meeting of the ~oard of Trustees. On motion by Trustee Cunningham seconded by Trustee Eschelbach the salaries of the ci~ ~emploYees were ordered paid before the Christmas holidays, adcording to custom. The following claims against the city were next presented for payment;- Oakland+California Towel Company,wash city hall,June,July,A~g. Attending fires ,E.Galli " " Tony Phillips " " $ 11.25 6740.55 12.16 5.55 $ 2.25 54.00 2.50 $ 2.50 S, ~ .~2.50 86860.28 The claims having been approved by the finance committee Trustee McCaffrey moved they be paid. The motion was seconded by Trustee Cunningham and regularly carried. 144 RESOLUTION IN MEMORI~ The following resolution was introduced by Trustee McCaf~rey;- ~ WHEREAS a great leader in a great cause as well as a'statesman, scholar and humanitarian,' h~s passed into the Great Beyond, and Whereas it is befittin~ ~ ~ the ~ccasfon that our nation from our City Councils to our Congress should spread on its minutes its heartfelt regret to the passing of one who has so · ~i well'lived his life that millions of our people have received the rich fruits of his work, and his desire to serve, o NOW THEREFORE be it resolved by the Board of Trustees of the City of South San Francisco that we spread upon the minutes of our City Council our sincerest regret of the loss of Honorable Samuel E. Gompers, PreaAelent of the American ~ederation of Labor and that we adjourn this meeting at this time out-of respect to him. I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was duly and regularly passed this 15th, day of December, 1924, by the following vote;- Ayes, Trustees, C.Blank, F.A.Cunningham, A.J.Eschelbach, H.McCaffrey, H.F.Mcliellis.
