The regular meeting of the cit~ council of the City of South San Francisco was held in the city hall Ncnday evening,lgarch 16th,1931. The meeting was called to order at 7;30 o'clock p.m. by ~ouncilman Joseph P.Quinlan,Eayor of South San Francisco. ROLL CALL. Roll call found all members of the council present,to-wit;- Counoilmen,V.Boido,R, Lloyd,M.Ninucciani,R. Tibbetts,Joseph P.Quinlan. The minutes of the three previous meetings were read. There being no errors or omissions they were approved as read. A request for permission to open a shell fish place on the E1 Camino Real was made by S. Quartaro. Taken under advisement. The Italian--American Athletic Club asked permission to hold a dance in Metropolitan Hall April 25th,1931. Permission granted. A comn~unication was received from the 1~nited Holy Church of America, asking permission to establish a branch church in South San Francisco, Permission granted. A petition was received from property owners on Railroad Avenue between Orange and ~gnolia Avenues asking for additional lights. Referred to C~uncilman Tibbetts. A communication was raceived from the ~ivision of Highways in regard to the construction of sidewalks, curb and gutter on the west side of Bayshore Highway stating that the State replaces existing facilities, and since sidewalks, curbs and gutters did not exist they felt under no o obligation to construct new ones. A.W.~icCain requested permission to build and install a gasoline station on the corner of Bayshore Highway and California Avenue on lots 13,14,15,16, block 149.Referred.to fire chief Welts. The Bayshore 0il Company,Ltd., requested permission to store gasoline and other petroleum products above ground at their wholesale plant in Town of Baden. Referred to Fire Chief Welte. A communication was received from the Special Site Sign Company. asking that the cit~ ordinance be changed to tax S~ per square foot instead of the flat rate of $20.00 per annum. Placed on file. The pacific Gas & Electric Company requested permission to open a trench on east side of Linden Avenue starting 660 feet south of Commercial Avenue and extending 925 feet therefrom for the purpose of replacing a section of 4 inch gas pipe. Permission granted. The Pacific Oas and Electric Company requested permission to open a trench on the north side of Second Lane starting 50 feet west of Linden Avenue and running 200 feet westerly therefrom. Permission granted. A communication was received from the League of California Municipalities asking the City Council to oppose Senate Bills 526 and 5~?, and Assembly Bill 57S. These bills are desi~ned to take certain'money which cities now receive from fines,etc,and turn it over to the county. Councilman L~nucciani introduced a resolution opposing maid bills. The resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of all the members of the City Council,to-wit;- Ayes, Councilmen, ¥.Botdo,R.Lloyd, N.Minucciani,R.Tibbetts,Joseph P.Quinlan. Progress Estimate of the City Improvement ~Company,No.1, for the installation of traffic signals in the amount of $1351.61 was ordered paid. An application for the~position of city 'Judge was received from B.H.Truax. The application was ordered placed on file. Applications for the position of police o~ficer were received from Homer Louis Gibbs and F. C. Schmi dt. Applications placed on file. The Treasurer's ~report for the month of ~ebruary was read, accepted and placed on file. The bonds of the Cit~,~ Improvement Company for the installation of traffic signals in the City of South San Francisco,at the intersections of Grand Avenue with Linden Avenue, and Grand Avenue with San Bruno Road ~ere submitte~i to the city council and accepted. The City Clerk was instructed to write the Pacific Gas & Electric Company, asking them to set back the two poles'weSt of Swift Avenue on the south side of Grand Avenue, as the same are interfering with traffic. The Nayor instructed the city clerk to writ~, a letter of thanks to ~M. J.B.Pilkington, nurseryman of ¥illbrae, for the 1000 bulbs presented to the City of South San Francisco. Mayor Quinlan thanked the City Council for the resolution of condolence sent the family of the late Thomas Quinlan. Claims in the amount of $3539.29 were next presented to the Council for payment. The claims having been audited by the finance committee Comucilman Minucciani moved they be paid. The motion was seconded by Co~mcilman Tibbetts and regularly carried: B. H.
