A regularly adjourned meeting of the City Council of the City of South San Francisco was held in the City Hall Wednesday evening, May 6, 1936. The meeting was called to order at 8;35 o'clock p. m. by ~,~ayor Ratto ROLL CALL Roll call found the following members of the city council.present, to-wit: Councilmen V. Bolod, J. F. ~ager, D. W. Ratto, A. J. Escehlbach, M.. Ninucciani Absent, Councilmen None The reading of the minutes of the previous meeting was dispensed with. Councilman Eschelb~ach introduced a resolutioh amending the ~ease dated April 18, 1932 between th~ City of South San Francisco and G. H. Thomson with reference to the electric sign. ' The resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of the city council as follows: Ayes, Councilmen V. Boido, J. F. ~,~ager, D. W. Ratto, A. J. Eschelbach, N. ~nucciani~ Noes, Councilmen None Absent, Cotuucilmen None Attest Daniel McSweeney, City Clerk By Elizabeth 0ttenfield, Deputy Recorded in Book of Resolutions Vol. 3 at page ~$1~, Councilman ~inucciani introduced a resolution calling for bids for the pur- chase of one automobile, either a Buick Sedan, Model No. 61; Packard Sedan with 120 inch wheel base, or Studebaker Sedan, President 8 ~[odel, for the City of South San ~ancisco. The resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of the city council as follows: Ayes, Councilmen V. Boido, J. F. ~ager, D. W. Ratt0, A. J. Eschelbach, N. Momxiay, Nay 18, 1936. Councilman .Eschelbach introduced a resolution of the City of South San Francisco entitled "Resolution of Intention to Abate Weeds, 1936." The resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the city council as follows: Ayes, Councilmen V. Boido, ~J. F. Mager, D. W. Ratto, A. J. Eschelbach, M. Ninucciani, Noes, Councilmen None Absent, CounciLmen None Attest Daniel NcSweeney, City Clerk By Elizabeth 0ttenfield, DepUty Recorded in Book of-Resolutions Vol. ~ at page ~,52-53 The Baden Ke~unel Club addressed a letter to the City Council stating their summer meet would start on Nay 16, 1936 and enclosed their check for ~300~.00 coffer- ing license fee for the first six days~ aud aSking for the police and firp protection as formerly arranged. Councilman Boido made a motio~ the permit, be granted., The motion was seconded by Councilman Eschelbach. Councilman Ninucciani said he was not prepared to vote an~ that he would like tb have the permit held ove~. ~ ~Council- man Esct~elbach said he wanted his motion to go through owing to the fact that since he was returned to the board he did not want any ill feelin~. Nayor Ratto then stated that 25 or 30 people came into his office and asked that the license be raised to ~$250.00 a day and i~ was through the wish of the people that he wanted the raise made. He also stated the race track should take care of ~its own emplo.yment bureau and that 80% of the help be residents of South San .Francisco, also the work be rotated with the exception of special occupations. It was also his request that the race track furnish the city with a sworn statement 'of the number of employees and the salaries paid. He suggested the matter be brought before a mass meeting held in the city hall.~ Councilman Nager asked City Attorney Coleberd re~arding the ordinance. Mr. Col~berd said the ordinance called for a license fee of $~5.00 per day and by gentlemen's agreement the track agreed to pay ~50.00 per day? ~He said that under the present ordinance the city could not deny the permit as long as the clu~b complied with the ordinance. Councilman ~'Iager said that only one person approached him on the subject of r~ising the fee and that was in an i~different sort of way, but nevertheless, he would invite a mass meeting if no agreement could be reached by the Board. He said he concurred with the motion. CouncilmsLu Boido said that no one had approached him to raise the license fee from ~0.00 and ~there- fore he thought such fee was 0. ~. Mr. Fontana then made a request that ~the City Council call a mass meeting of the taX payers. A~vote was then called for on the motion as follows: Ayes Councilmen Eschelbach, Nager and Bold0; Noes, Coun~Cilman Ninucciani.~,~V~Mr. Signorelli asked when the mass meeting woul~i be held and Ceuncil- man Ratto s~id it would probably be announced in the paper. Councilman ~'iinucciani stated that every meeting should be a mas~ meeting so that people would know what is going on in the city. City Engineer Kneese submitted a statement shgwi~g a balance of $655.V~ due the Oakland Sewer Construction Company under their co~tract for the construction of the south industrial area sewer.
