REGULARLY ADJOURNED MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO HELD TUESDAY
AUGUST 17, 19~7.
A regularly adjourned meeting of the city council of the city of South San Fran-
cisco was held Tuesday evening, August 17. 19~57. ~
The meeting was called to order at 7:S0 o~clock p. m. by Mayor D. W. Ratto
Roll call found the following membersof the couhcil ~resent, to-wit: Councilmen
Je F. Mage~, A. J. Eschelbach, D. W. Ratto Absent, Councilmen V. Boido, M. ~inucciani
The reading of the minutes of the previous meeting was dispensed with.
Councilman Eschelbach introduced a resolution of the city of South San Francisco
for the construction of a storm water sewer in Grand Avenue between Maple Avenue
and Li~den Avenue and in Linden Avenue between Grand Avenue and a point 80~ feet
south from Railroad Avenue and calling for bids to be opened at 8:00 o'clock p. me
September~ 7, 198~. The resolution was adopted by a vote of the city council, as
follows: Ayes, Councilmen J. F. Mager, A. J. Es~helbach, D. W. Ratto; Noes, Council-
men ~one - Absent Councilmen V. Boido, M. Minucciani.

Mr. Douste appeared before the meeting and said that Mr. Mulkey is operating his
auto cou~t~ without a license. He said that 100% of the people in the district
are a~wat the a~ut~ court and he should be stopped. The matter was referred
city attorney Coleberd as to what can be done or if the city can refuse him a license.
Mayor Ratto said examinations were held for police office~ and he wanted the opinion
of th~ board as to whether they favored the local man or outsider. He said if points
ws~e given for len~ ef residence and tax payers, the local man would have the edge.
He stated that applications were sent out and arrangements made with' Berkeley police
department for the examinations. He said forms are to be filled out and each man
should prove himself physcially and mentally fit for the job. Councilman Mager said
he did not know applications were sent out, however he favored a local man for the Job
but thought the whole board should discuss the matter. Chief Belloni Stated that
32 applications were filed and 20 applicants took the examination. Councilman Eschel-
bach said proference should be given local man but he did not see need c~ putting on any
extra policem~n. He thought the m_~tter should be referred to the police commissioner.
The matter was laid over for discussion with the full board.
There being no further business before the council, Councilman Escehlbach moved to
adjourn. The motion was seconded by Councilman Mager and regularly carried.
