HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 1938-06-20468 REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, HELD MONDAY, JUNE 20,1938. The regular meeting of the City Council of the City of South San Francisco was held in the City Hall, Monday evening, June 20th, 1938. The meeting was called to order at 8 o'clock p.m. by Mayor A.J.Eschelbach. ROLL CALL. Roll call found all members of the City Council present, as follows;- Councilmen,V.Boido, A.J.Eschelbach, M.Minuccianl, D.W.Ratto, Rod Tibbetts. The minutes of the previous meeting were read. There being no errors or omissions they were approved as read. A communication was received from the City of Santa Clara inviting the city officials of South San Francisco to attend their Fourth of July three day celebration, including various display by the Firemen's Association of improved fire fighting, parades, etc. Mayor Eschelbach asked Fire Chief Welte if he wished to attend. The fire chie~ stated the Fourth of July seasom was always a busy one in South San Francisco, and he would not care to take a chance of being out of town. Communication ordered placed on file A copy of an agreement submitted by Architect He~ry H.Gutterson to the South San Francisco Libray Board was read to the City Council~ Mayor Eschelbach stated the council had met with the Library Board and Architect and the committee on addition to the library, and all agreed on a course of procedure to secure the government grant and the city's assistance in making the addition. The Copy of the agreement was ~rdered placed on file. Hugh F.McNellis, on behalf of the California Life Payment Plan, requested permission to hold a meeting of the proponents of the proposition in the Council Chamber of the City Hall, in the middle or latter part of next week. Permission granted ..... The California Wire Cloth Company of this city and Oakland requested to be notified when bids would be called for fencing the Tennis Court. The City Clerk was instructed to send notice to the company of the date. A communication was received from the local postoffice requesting permission to drain over flow water from the settling basin, basement window and entrance area, into the sanitary sewer of the proposed new postoffice~stating the flow would be approximately 100 gallons per hour. Engineer Klassen explaind the flow would be much more than that~ that very few cities allow· drain or roof water to drain into the sanitary sewer. ~ire Chief Welte stated the city ordinance prohibits connection of storm water sewers with sanitary sewers. The matter was laid over until more data can be seaured from t'he government regarding slope, areas,etc. The League of California Municipalities submitted a communication showing the next convention of the league would be held in Santa Barbara, September 8 to ~, Inc. and requested the city to outline a list of suggestions to be submitted to the convention at the meeting. Laid over got consideration. Fire Chief A.J.Welte submitted the names of Carl Rinehart and ~ack Huntington for appoint- ~ment to the call forces of the fire department. On motion by Councilman Tibbetts, seconded by Councilman ~inucciani and regularly carried the appointments were made. John Mangini and A.BoRusso of the Industrial Softball League Dance Con~uittee applied for a permit to hold a dance in Fraternal Hall, Saturday evening July 2Z,1~38, and enclosed ~.00 for special police service. On motion by Councilman Ratto, seconded by Councilman Minucciani and regularly carried the desired pe~aission was granted. A comm~mication was received from County Engineer' ~arshall, together with a map of the territory affected by soil erosion in the Cclma Creek district, stating that meeting on the subject would be held in the South San Francisco City Hall on Wednesday, June ~2,1~8, at 2 o'clock P.~, and invited those interested to attend. ~ayor~Eschelbach requested Engineer Klassen and City Attorney Coleberd to be in attendance.' Jno.H.Skeeggs, District Engineer of the Division of Highways, submitted the FIRST SUP?LE* NENTAL ~E~0RAND~ 0~'~ AGREE~ENT in triplicate to provide for the expenditure of the ~ cent fund ~ on State Highways for the 19~7-19~0 Biennium, for execution by the ~ayor and Clerk. ~his refers to the bridge south of the underpass. ORDINANCE NO. An ordinance entitled" AN ORDINANCE ~ENDING ORDINANCE N0.21 OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO ENTITLED" AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING A S¥ST~ FOR THE ASSESS~ENT~ LEVY AND COL~CTION OF CITY TAXES IN THE CITY 0F SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO" passed April 19th, 1909 by adding thereto two sections to be numbered 54 and 54A and repealing ordinance No.168 of said City of South San Francisco" was introduced by Councilman ~inucctani, had its first title reading and was laid over to come up under the regular order of business at the next .regular meeting of the City Council. RESOLUTION N0.6~9 Councilman Ratto introduced a resolution of the City Council of the City of South San Francisco, adopting plans and specifications for the construction of a fence about the Tennis Court to be constructed by the City of South San Francisco on the Orange Avenue Park. The resolution was adopted by the votes of all the members of the City Council;as follows;- Ayes, Councilmen, V.Boido, A.J.Eschelbach, ~.Minucciani,D.W.Ratto,Rod Tibbetts.
