The meeting was called to order at 8 o'clock P.I',i. by ~ayor A.J.Eschelbach. ROLL CALL. The minutes of the three previous meetin?s were read. On moticn by Councilman natto, seconded by Councilman TibOetts a~d regularly carried the permit was granted. The Night Owls requested permission to hold a dance in t, raternal hall,~aturday evening, June 3,1939,from 9 o'clock p.m. to one A.k. On motion by Councilman Tibbetts,seconded by Coun- cilman i{atto and regularly caFried the desired permission was granted. Postal Telegraph-Cable Company submitted a ~equest for permission to deliver appro.ximate- Ly ~000 circulars in the city for the Industrial Lumber (;ompany. On motion by Councilman ~atto, seconded by Councilman Tibbetts permission was ~iven~. provJde~ the ~andb~.I1 ordinance was lived ~o. City Engineer ~,~arshell submitted a statement covering? ti'e number of settlements ~ade by the Travelers Indemnity Company with cla_~mants for .dama. ges in Peck's Lots, allegedly done by the blas~in? of ~lacco Drothers. There were 8 settlements and 14 unsettled. Accepted and placed on file. Belton Rhodes , secretary of the Peninsula League of California I',~a. nicipalities, wrote informing the City Council that the next meetin~ had been postponed until ~ay 18,1~39.Accepted. A co~xmunication received~by l~ayor Eschelb~ch from the Finn-8~ Elbow insurance com'oany .on the ~rc.posed ~nsurance bond on t) e ~alter ~.C.Ryan bu~ service~ giving figures for the various amounts. kef erred to the cit~, attorney. ~ communication was received from the South San Francisco Unified School District t?anking ~he city council for the school safety zone stands. Accepted and placed o.~ file. Randall Ly Johnson, owner of lot 4, in block l$1, addressed the city council stating that ?oster ~ Eleiser Company ~aintains a billboard which obstructs the view of his coffee shop, and requested the city to have the si~n removed or placed, further back. The City Clerk was instructed ~o write the sign company to that effect. Jo?ma Z.Anderson An answer was received from ,ongressman'to the city's request by resolution to strive for additional funds for tie completion of projects approved by the local P.W.A.authorities. he stated he appreciated the letter, and it would be ~e!pful to him when t?e subject comes up. Communication acceoted and placed on f~.le. ~r. Walter L.Eby of the :~iby Auto, Ca~.p, sub~tted a statement char~ing that th.e l¥iacco ~rotk~ers blastin? had inj~re~ their aourt bu~.idin~s at 750 O~yshore Boulevard. 't~,e qity Clerk was instructed to write the Travelers Indemnity Company requestin? them to confer with i~r. Eby. The State moard of ?~q~alizstion submitted the names of oames ~'iicolopulos '~ Rinaldo kartini who applied ..for Beer, wine and distilled spirits licenses. There were no objections to t eir issuance b~ the city council. Fire Chief AL.J.Nelte submitted~t~e name of R.Spinelli for appointment to the call forces of the fire department at fire house No.O,. Co~ncil~nan tiatto moved the a~pointment of ~[r. Spinelll. The motion was seconded by Cooncilman Tibbetts and re~larly carried. T?e reports of the i'~ealth Officer , Fire Chief , Buildin? There were none. Under the head of new business the clerk w~s instructed to advise the businessmen's association that a meetin~ of the city council would be held, informally, ;'~7onday evening, ~iay at V o'clock p.m., 1939; to d~scuss proposed city ordinances and any other matter that might be grouyht up. ,',~ayor Eschelbach susgested that the city write the Board of Supervisors of San ~ateo County and request that the stun of ~V500 be set aside in their budget for the next fiscal year for aid in keepin~ Colma Creek clear. Taken care of .by resolution. Councilman Tibbetts suggested that it is about time the city was securing another reduction in hydrant rental water rates, tl-:at the compsn¥ ~-ad agreed to a reduction of 75 cents some time a~o. The City Clerk w~s instr~.cted to communicate with t~e company snd req~est that' the reduct4~ be made. Fire Chief Welte reDorted that owing to a similarity in names, aonfusion or mistakes could be made when fires are reported on streets of si~:ilar names~ and sugg.ested that the names of one of such streets be changed. }~e cited, Baden and Braden Avenues, Ashton and Aspen Avenues & BUtler Road and Butler Avenue. ~e was assu~e¢ b~ the c~t.~.' co~nc!l ~that the c~an~,e wo~ld be made. Co~uc~lman ~nucciani , soeakin? 'for the fire department, stated another truck was needed. A cormuittee of members of the cit~. council and others visited several towns looking up prices on equipment. };e stated San Jose ha8 b~ilt a fire tr~,~ck at about ,~Sa,000 less than t~:e market price, ~,~sin¢: their own ].abor, and olscin¢ t~e parts..
