PLACE: ROLL CALL: CALL TO ORDER: MINUTES: Council Chambers, City Hall. 8 o'clock p.m. Prssent: Councilmen Victor Boido, Chas. K. Elder, Leo Ferko, Adolph Sani, Emilio Cortesi. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Ferko at 8:15 p.m. The City. Clerk having forwarded copy of the minutes of the pre~ious meeting to all members of the City Council, Mayor Ferko asked if any errors or omissions were noted. There being none the minutes were approved as submitted. HILLSIDE BO~YLEVARD - RE-SURFAC ING: Communication was received from the ~¥orks ~ngineer advising that Hillside Boulevard needed re-surfacing. He stated some of this work was outside the City and it was necessary to have County participation in thus work. Estimated cost of improvements would be approximately $3800.00 for the City and $3&00.00 for the County and he recommended that the City request participation from the County and proceed with the project. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that the recommendation of the Works Engineer be accepted an~ that the City request participation from the County in this work. L. C. SMITH CO. - LINDE11 A~ENUE: Communication was received from the ~,~orks Engineer showing amount of work completed by L. C. Smith Co. on South Linden Avenue and recommending that L. C. Smith Co. be paid a progress payment of $&,68~.57. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that the recommendation of the ~¥orks Engineer be accepted and that L. O. Smith Oo. be paid the sum of $~, 687.57. VINCENT E. BIANCHINI, , Communication was received from Ohief of Police Belloni advising that Vincent E. Bianchini, JR.: Jr. had returned to work as of January 5th. This communication was ordered filed. VOLKMAN - SPECIAL OFFICER: Chief of Police Belloni advised that he had appointed~aymond J. Volkman of the Engineering Department as a Special Officer. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that the appoinZment of EaymondJ. Volkmanas Special Officer, be confirmed; Volkman to act without remuneration from the city. WELLER - HOUSING A[~THORITY: Communication was received from the Housing Authority of the Gity of ~outh San Francisco advising that the term o~ commissioner G. Carl Weller would expire on March 31, 1950 and recommending that he be re-appointed. This communicatiomwas ordered filed. ~LANNING COMMISSION BUS STOPS? P~INING COMMISSI0~ - R~EZONING: Communication was received from the Planning Commission recommending changes in the various bus stops. This matter was referred to a committee consisting of Councilmen ~ani, Elder, Eortesi and Boido and Ohief of Police Belloni to work with the Planning Commission ann also possibly arrange for a bus parking station. Resolution adopted by the Planning Commission January llth, covering rezoning of certain parcels of land, was presented. This matter was laid over for two weeks. STREET NAMES: Comm~n~ication was received from the Planning Commission r~commending the following street names ~ Re-name Old Bayshore - South Bayshore Boulevard. Name service road to New Freeway Highway approach - Freeway St. Name service road adjoining E1 Camino Real - E1 Cortez Way. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that the recommendation of the Planning Commission be accepted and the City Attorney be instructed to draw up the necessary Pesolution. MANUFAC~ ASSN. - Cmmmunication was received from the Manufacturers Association of South San Francisco SEWAGE DISP~AL SYSTEI~: advising they were not satisfied with the present method of assessment on the new Sewage Disposal System. This communication was ordered filed. PECK'S SUBDIVISION - VACANT LOTS: Communication was received from the Peck's Subdivision Improvement Club complaining of!the condition of certain vacant lots in Peck's SubdivisiOn. Councilman Cortesi stated he had looked over the area mentioned and found conditions as noted in the Club's letter. The Mayor suggested that the residents of Peck's Lots gather uo the rubbish and the Street Department would arrange to pick up same. It was regularly moved, seconded and carried that the metter be referred to th~ Health O£ficer.~iCouncilman Cortesi was appointed, as a committee of one, to work ~rlth the residents of Peck's Lots o~ this matter. SEWER SERVICE - SCHOOL ~ommunication was received from the South San Francisco Unified School District requesting OISTRICT EL CAMINO REAL:that sewer service be furnished to the site of the Senior High School east of E1 Camino Real. Motion was duly made,, seconded and carried that the Works Engineer be empowered to draw up the necessary plans for sewer in this location. LEAGUE MEETING: Communication was received fram the League of California Cities Peninsula Division advising of meeting to be held at Alviso, January 19th. Ail those wishing to attend were asked to notify the City Clerk. PLAYGROUND - UPPER GRAND AVE.: L. C. SMITH CO. - LINDEN AVENUE: Communication signed by 15 residents of upper Grand Avenue, thanking the Council for providing a playground in this area, was received. Same was ordered~filed. Communication was received from L. C. Smith Co. complaining of traffic conditions on South Linden Avenue and advising that he would not be responsible for any structure destroyed by unwarranted treatment. This matter was referred to the Works Engineer and the Police Department to govern speed limits and load limits. SERVICE STATION - BRE~TWOOD: Communication was received from Campbell Construction F~uipment Co. requesting permission to construct a service station and install gasoline tanks at E1 Camino an~ Hazelwood Drive. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that permission be granted. SERVICE STATION - VIELAGEWAY: Communication was received from Mission Oil Co. requesting permission to construct a service station and install gasoline tanks at Village ,~ay and Linden Ave. T.his matter was laid over for two weeks. to have-COUnty participation in th~s WOrk. Douneyer for license to operate coin equipment DOt~EYER: for music and amusement. Same was referred to the Chief of Police and License Board. V. F. W. DANCE: Communication was received from Veterans of Foreign Wars Junipero Serra Post No. 7216 requesting permission to hold a dance in the American Legion Hall January 20th. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that permission be granted. "B" ST. OPENING: Communication s~.gned by 6 residents of B Street was read. This communication protested the opening of B Street~as a .main arterial to the High School site. This matter was referred &o the City Ma~,ger so that he might explain the situation to the people interested. Claims in the amount of $16,316.25 were preseated to the Finance Committee for approval. On motion duly made, seconded and carried claims as submitted were ordered paid. MONTHLY REPORTS: Reports for the month of December were submitted by the Police Dept., City Judge, Building Inspector, Fire Dept., Public Library, Health Dept. and Humane Officer. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that same be approved as submitted. RESOLUTION NO. 1506 - PLANS & SPECIFICATIONS . HILLSIDE BOULEVARD: Councilman Sani introduced a resolution adopting plans and specifications £or the improvement of Hillside Boulevard. This resolutioa was adop%e~by the unanimous vote of all members of the City Council. RESOLUTION NO. 1507 - IMPROV~ENT OF HILLSIDE BOULEVARD: Councilman Elder introduced a resolution proposing that. the City Council cause the ~rgvement of Hitlside Boulevard, from Linden Avenue to the westerly line of High School Park Terrace F2. This resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the City Council. RESOLUTION NO. 1508 - S. Ps CO. CROSSING: Councilman Cortesi introduced a resolution m~thorizing the execution of a street or highway agreement with the Southern Pacific Co. This resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members ~f the City Council. GASOLINE QUOTATIONS: Action on gasoline quotations was laid over till the next meeting. ~D~ ~A~ ~ ABS~CE:. Councilman FAder requested permission to leave the State for two weeks starting February &th. Motion waa duly made, seconded and carried that permission be granted Councilman Elder to leave the State.
