P. AGe-WAr, MT: LIGHTS - ORANGE AVE. ~ORIAL PARK: AU~.NDING RECREATION C0~ISSION ORDINANCE: REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF TFE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO HELD MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 1950. Council Chambers, City Hall. 8 o'clock p.m. Councilman Sani moved, seconded by Councilman Boido, that Councilman Cortesi act as Mayor during the absence of Mayor Ferko. 'I~is motion ,was carried. Present: Councilmen Victor Boido, Adolph Sani, Emilio Cortesi. Absent: Councilmen Chas. K. Elder, Leo Ferko. The meeting was called to order by Acting Mayor Cortesi at 8:00 p,m. The City Clerk having forwarded copy of the minutes of the previous meeting to all members of the City C.ouncil, acting Mayor Cortesi asked if any errors or omissions were noted. There being none the minutes were approved as submitted. Motion was made, seconded and carried that bids for %he construction of traffic signals at E1 Camino Real and Arroyo Drive be opened. The following bids were submitted. Abbott Electric Corp. L. H. Leonardi Electric Construction Co. $6,252.00 7,205.00 The Works Engineer recommended that the contract be Awarded to the lowest bidder. Motio was duly made, seconded and carried that contract be awarded the Abbott Electric Corp. to construct traffic signals at El Camino Real and Arroyo Drive for the sum of $6,252.00, and that the Mayor and 8ity Clerk be authorized to sign contract. The request of the Mission Oil Co. to construct a service station at Village Way and Linden Avenue was brought up. Councilman Sani asked if anyone wished to protest the issuance of th~s permit. There were no protests; therefore, motion was duly made, seconded and carried that permit to construct this service station be granted. Communication was received from Donald Guthrie, Recreation Commissioner, tendering his resignation as s Commissioner. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that the resignation of Donald Guthrie be accepted and that the City Clerk send him a letter of thanks for his past services. Communication ~as received from the Brentwood Co. requesting permission to erect a Medical an~ Dental building on Northwood Drive. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that permission be granted providing the building meets all building regulations Communications were received from H. F. McNellis and Pete Zocchi protesting charges for cutting weeds on their property. These communications were referred to the Superintendent of Street~ Resolution No. 125, referring proposed subdivision ordinance to the City Council, was received from the Planning Commission. This matter was laid over for further consider- ation. Resolution No. 126, recommending that the application of Pete Mazzanti requesting rezoning of.Lot 5 Zone D be approved, was received from the Planning Commission. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that the recommendation of the Planning Commission be accepted. Application for a license to peddle hotdogs and h~mburgers from a trailer was submitted by Fred T. Hutsell. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that this application be referred to the Health Officer. Communication was received from the Internmtional Paint Co. requesting permission to manufacture paint in the old Kelsey-Hayes Wheel Co. plant. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that permission be granted provided same meets approval of the Building Inspector and Fire Chief. Communication was received from the County Clerk advising that the City's Resolution No. 1501, declaring the city's intention to withdraw from the County Free Library System, was accepted and approved by the Board of Super~isors at their meeting held January 31st. This communication was ordere~ filed. Communication was received from the Planning Commission recommending the granting of a variance and adjustment permit to the Sterling Terrace Corp. allowing for a 10' setback in lieu of 15' setback on various lots in Sterling Terrace. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that the recommendation of the Planning Commission be accepted. Claims in the amount of $13,363.67 were submitted to the Finance Committee for approval. On motion duly made, seconded and carried claims as submitted were ordered paid. Reports for the month of January were submitted by the Building Inspector and Fire Chief Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that same be approved as submitted. Councilman Sari introduced a resolutio~ providing that the City enter into an agreement with the Southern Pacific Co. for widening and improving a portion of Linden Avenue, which crosses the right-of-way of the Southern Pacific Co. This resolution was adopted by the unamtmous vote of all members of the City Council present. Motion w~s duly made, seconded and carried that the Works Engineer prepare plans and specifications for the installation of a lighting system for the softball field in Orange Avenue. Memorial Park. Communication from the Recreation Department with reference to amending the Recreation Commission Ordinance, laid over from the previous meeting, was laid over until a full board was present. ............ ................. ~'~$.f K' ~lder, Leo Forks. - C~'=~"'~,.D-~.· The meeting was called to order by Acting Mayor Cortesi at 8:OO p,m. Memorial Park. ~NDING RECREATION C(~MISSION ORDINANCE: Communication from the Recreation Department with reference to amending the Recreation Commission Ordinance, laid over from the previous meeting, was laid over until a full board was present. 440 CONCRETE ~¥ALK- HILLSIDE RECREATION CENTER: BUS STOPS: UNION OIL GASOLINE TANKS - AIRPORT: O' BR~EN DEATH: ADJOURNMENT: Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that the Works Engineer and Superintendent of Streets he authorized to install concrete walks st the Hillside Recreation Center, Councilman Sani reported that the committee appointed to discuss the problem of bus stops had met with the management of the Bus Company. and that the committee was getting in touch with the State Highway Department to arrange for property for bus stops. The request of the Union. Oil Company to install gasoline tanks at the Airport, which was laid over from the previous meeting, was taken up. As the Fire Chief approved of the installation of these tanks, motion was duly made, seconded and carried that the Union Oil Co. be given permission to install gasoline storage tanks at the Airport. Councilman Sani suggested that a letter of condolence be sent to the family of the late Chief of Police O' Brien of San Mateo. Ccuflcilman Sani stated Chief of Police O'Brien had served his City well and that San Mateo and the County as a whole had lost a good Police Officer. City Attorney Coleberd suggested that a resolution might be more appropriate. It was, therefore, regularly moved, seconded ant carried that the City Attorney draw up a resolution of condolence with reference to Chief of Police O'Brien. On motion of Councilman Sani, seconded by Councilman Boido and regularly carried the meeting was adjourned to Monday, February 20th. at 8:00 p.m. Time of ~dJournment - 8:35 p.m. ~espectfully submitted, APPROVED: mayor
