CLAIMS: RESOLUTION NO. 1534 R~OV,tL OF L~EDS: 3UBDIVISION ORDINANCE: !!ILL$IDE IMP?{OVID~ENT: RFSURFACING ~ILLSiDE BLVD &BOVE PARADIJE VALLEY: Council Chambers, City Hall 8:00 p.m. Present: Councilmen Boido, Eldest, Sani, Bracco, and Cortesi. Absent: None. Meeting was called to order at 8:15 p.m. by Mayor Sani. The City Clerk having for~ arded copies of the minutes of the previous meet- ings of April 17, 1950 and April 18, 1950, to all councilmen, Mayor Sani asked if there were a,y errors or omissions. There being none, the ninutes were approved as sobmitted. Communication was received from the l.[orks Engineer estimating the cost of resurfacing and widening portion of Orange Avenue at approximately ~i)11,O00.OO. Councilman Cortesi stated he co~.~ld see no reason for spending money on Rail- road Avenue before takin~ care of Spruce Avenue. After some discussion, this mmtter was laid over till the next meeting. Communication was received from the Recreation Com~ission recommending thst portion of E1 Camino Recreation area be graded to provide a baseball diamond. After some discus~ion, this matter was laid over till the next meeting. Communication was received from Fire Chief Welte advising that Mr. H. Green- field has resigned from t?~e call forces as of April lath. This communi- cation was ordered filed. Communication was received from Silvio Pianca requestin~ permit to construct a building on Linden lvenue between Tamarack~Lane and Lux Avenue. As the building inspector advised plans and specifications met his approval, motion was duly matte, seconded, and carried, thatpermit be granted. Application was received from Manuel Romero to hold ~ances in the A~merican Legion Hall on Fridays and 3aturdays un~er the name of "Denver Bill and his Frontier Rhythm Boys." Motion was duly made, seconded, and carried, that oermit be ~ranted providing same meets wit?] the a?~r~>val of the Police Depart- ment. Communications were received from the Plannin~ Commission recommendin~ the zri~'nting of variance and adjustments to the following: 1. Enrico Gianni 2. L. B. Clarke 3. Arthur Royce Jr. Motion was duly made, seconded, an~ carried, that permits as recom-~ended by the Planning Commission be a~oroved. Communication was received from the Planning Commission recommending the granting of a use permit to the Standard Building Co. Motion was duly made, seconded, an~ c~rried, that the recommendation of the Planning Commission be acceoted. Con%munication was received from the Planning Comuission recom~ending the der~ying of a use permit to the Brentwood Shoe Company to erect a billboard on parcel 7 Zone E. Motion wa~ duly made, seconded, and carried, that the reco~nendation of the Ptan~in.~ Conmmission be accepted, and this permit be denied. Claims in the amount of ~13,0A6.53 were approved by the Finance Committee. On motion duly made, seconded, and carried, claims as submitted were ordered paid. CounciLman ~ '~' .~orteo~ introduced a resolution o~rov~ding for the removal of weeds ~rithin the city limits. This ' otion was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the city council. Councilman Cortesi introduced an or~inar'.ce re$~lating subdivisions. Council- man Elder moved, seconded by Co~mcilman Cortesi, that this ordinance be read ky title only. This motion wa~ regularly c~rried. City Clerk then title of ordinance--A?? ORDIUA~iCE EJTA~LIS}!ING ~UBDIVISION R~UI~ATIONS FO~ THE CITY OF SOU~H ~.-]~,~ FR~?,? CI 5CO. The improvement of !~illside Blvd, which was ]_aid over ?rom previous meeting on protest from Mr. McLeod, was taken up. The City Manaser stated the Works Engineer, City Attorney, and himself had discussed t?~is matter and it was their recontmendation that the protest of Mr. McLeod be overruled. The City Attorney was re$~ested to prepare the.nece~3sary resolution. The matter of resurfac~n~ Ui]lside Blvd between Paradise Valley and the west- erly limit of Sterling Terrace No. 5 was discussed and lsid over ~cr further consideration. 458 HUTSELL PEDDI.ING LICenSE: BURI BURI CLUB~-DRAINAGE DITCH: The apr~lication of Fred I!utsell to peddle hotdogs and [~amburzers from a trailer w~s approved by the health department, therefore, motion was duly made, seconded, and carried, that business li:ense be issued Mr. Hutsell on payment of the necessary fee. Communication was received from B~:ri E~ari Community Club suggesting that some arrangements be made for covering_ the drainage ditch behinU Indio Drive in the Buri Buri subdivision. Councilman Cortesi stated that he, Counci!m~n Sani, and Mr. Oddstad of t?~e Sterlin~ Building Company, had looked over this area. Mr. Sani stated that Mr. OdUsta5 felt it was asking too much from him to install pipe line in this area. However, he agreed to do all pos:~;ible to take care of the drainage. VOLUNTEER FIR~.~AN ,r~AY: AMERICA~ LEGION POPPY SALE: J. PECK DISCHARGE: ADJ OUR~.~T~i~T: Councilman 'Elder brought up the matter of getting volunteer firemen to attend fire drills. To improve attendance, he suggeste~ paying these volunteers, and moved that the members of the call forces be paid not to exceed ~1.50 per drill an~ not to exceed two drills per month, ex- cluding volunteers using the sleeoing quarters in the fire house. This motion was seconded by Councilman Cortesi and regularly carried. Con~munication was received from Rose Castonia, Poppy Chairman, American Legion Auxiliary, asking that the Mayor make a p~.~blic proclamation des- i~nating May 26th and 27th as poppy sale days, and asking that May 28th be set aside for the planting of red poppies in the Memorial Park at Orange Avenue. Ma-~or Sani asked the local newspaper to publish the necessary oroclamation and stated that the Council members would be presCmt at the Orange Ave~ue Park on May 28th. City Clerk was instrUct- ed to so advise the American Le~ion Auxiliary. Councilman Boido asked ~orks ?Zngineer Randlett why Mr.J. Peck was dis- charged from the Engineering Department. Mr. Randlett st.~ted !ne would be willin~ to discuss t?~is matter in private. After some discussion, Mayor Sani stated the matter would be taken up in caucus. On motion of Councilman Elder, seconded by Councilman Cortesi, and reg- ularly carried, the meeting was adjourned to Monday, May 8th at 7:30 p.m. Time of Adjournment - 9:00 p.m. Respectfully submitted, City Clerk APPROV~
