Council Chambers, City Hall 8:0Op. m. Present: Councilmen Victor Boido, Charles £. Elder, Adolph Sani, Joseph Bracco and Emilio Cortesi Absent: None Meeting was called to order by Mayor Sani at 8:00 p. m. The City Clerk having forwarded copies of the minutes of the previous meetings of May 1, 1950, and May 8, 1950, to all councilmen, Mayor Sani asked if there were any errors or omissions. There being none, the minutes were approved as submitted. Mayor Sani asked if there were any protests on the removal of weeds. There being none, Councilman Bracco introduced a resolution providing for the removal of weeds within the city limits. This resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the Council. Communication was received from the Associated Improvement Clubs requesting per- mission to use the Council Chambers May245h, for a meeting with representatives of the Boys Scouts ~nd Girl Scouts. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that permission be granted. Communication was received from James Balopulos tendering his resignation as a member of the Recreation Commission due to lack of time. Motion was duly made, seconded, and carried that Mr. Balopulos' resignation be accepted and a letter of thanks sent to him for his services. Communication was received from Chief of Police Belloni advising that Officer Daniel.Lombardi was off, sick, from April 20th to May Sth, w~en he was able to return to light duty. He is expected to return to his usual work June 5th. This communication was ordered filed. Communication was received from Chief of Police Belloni rec~ending the appoint- ment of John V. Fabbri as Police Officer, effective May 1st at the starting rate of pay $265.00 per month. Motion was duly made, seconded, and carried that the recommeadation of Chief of Police be accepted and John V. Fabbri be appointed to the Police Force. Communication was received from Fire Chief Welte advising that Lawrence Dini had resigned from the Call Forces of the Fire Department as of April 28~~ 1950. This communication was ordered filed. Communication was received from the League of California Cities, Peninsula Division, advising that a dinner meeting would be held Thursday, May 18th, at Vahl's Club. This communication was ordered filed. Communication was received from the Sociedad Morelos requesting permission to hold a dance May 2Oth, at the American Legion Hall. Motion was duly made, seconded, and carried that permit be granted providing the necessary police protection is obtained. Communication was received from Messrs. Stewart and Frazier requesting permission to use septic tanks till sewers are put in, as they were planning to build houses on Lot 29 on Alta Vista Drive. Motion was duly made, seconded, and carried that permission be granted with the proviso that they connect with the sewer when same is put in. Communication was received from Louis Simons requesting permission to erect a building at Randolph Avenue and Bayshore Highway. Motion was duly made, seconded, and~mrriedf~hat permit be granted provided all building regulations are complied with. Communication was received from Alberta & Harry Baileyrequesting permission to erect store building at 924 E1 Camino Real; also a building on the rear of the same lot. M~tion was duly made, seconded, and carried $hat permit be granted providing-all building regulations are complied with. Communication was received from Chief of Police Louis Belloni advising that he had appointed Matt E. Knighton as a Special Police Officer for duty at the State Theatre only. Motion was duly made, seconded, and carried that the appoint- ment of Matt E. Knighton as Special Officer be confirmed, without remuneration from the City. Claims in the amount of $18,021.85 were approved by the Finance Committee. On motion dulymade, seconded, and carried, claims as submitted were ordered paid. Reports for the month of April were submitted by the Building Inspector, Police Department, City Judge, Fire Chief, Librarian, Humane Officer, and Health Depart- ment. Motion was duly made, seconded, and carried that same be approved as submitted. Communication was received from the Hillside Manor Corporation requesting permission to improve Alta Mesa Drive between Arroyo Drive and El Campo Drive; this work to be done under the supervision of the Works Engineer. Motion was duly made, second- ed, and carried that permission be granted to improve Alta Mesa Drive with the approval of the Works Engineer. BURLINGAMEADVANCE AD: NUMB~ING ORANGE AVenUE: SOUTH~OOD DRAINAGE: ADJOURnMEnT: Communication was received from The Advance advising they were publishing a County Fiesta Edition fr~m September 6th to September 15th and would like the City to take a page ad at a cost of $175.00. This matter was laid over till next meeting. Cou~cilman Cortesi brought up the matter of numbering on Orange Avenue and West Orange Avenue. He was of the opinion it should ~e one street. It was regularly moved, seconded, and carried that this matter be referred to the Planning Commission. Mr. Cortesi also brought up the matter of street signs on all alleys in the city and that the houses should be numbered properly. It was suggested that this matter of street signs be take~ up during the budget time and that the Building Inspector arrange for notifying house owners regarding the proper numbering. Mrs. Hernan of Southwood addressed the Council and asked that drainage conditions be taken care of in the Southwood district. This matter was referred to City Manager Larwecd. On motion of Councilman Elder, seconded by Councilman Bracco and regularly carried the meeting was adjourned to June 5, 1950, at 8:00 p. m. Time of AdJourmment - 8:&O p. m.
