Elder, Adolph Ssni, Joseph Bracco Councilman Emilio Cortesi The meeting was called to order at 4:20 p. m. by Mayor Sani. The City Clerk having forwarded copy of the minutes of the previous meeting to all councilmen, Mayor Sani asked if there were any errors or omissions. There being,none, the minutes were aporoved as submitted. City Manager Larwood stated notice had not been published on the Santo Christs Society rezoninE, therefore, nothing could be done at this time. Mayor Sani stated that as representatives of the Santo Christs Society and' the protestants were present, he would like to have them get together and decide the matter. Attorney Caudio, representing Santo C?misto Society, addressed the council and stated he !ad been called in hurriedly on the mat- ter and would like to know the status of same. Attorney O'Hara, represent- ing the protestants, addressed the council stating that if the far end of the property was rezoned so that it did not include the upset end of Oak Avenue, he would withdraw his protest, but he could see no reason for rush- ing the matter. Attorney Gaudio suggested that the Planning Commission should go over this matter azain. Councilman Elder moved that the matter be referred back to the Planninf Commission, to be taken up at an early special meeting. Councilman Boido seconded the motion and same was re~larly carried. Mayor Sani stated that the Planning Commission had met on the Daly Subdi- vision map, and that Secretary Robinson was on a vacation and could not pre- pare the necessary documents for this meeting. He stated the Planning Com- mission went on record ss recommending the approyal of the Daly Subdivision Tentative Map, and suggested that the council approve same. Motion was duly made, seconded, and carried, that the recon~nendation of the Planning Commission be confirmed. RF~OLUTION NO. 1573 SOUTH MAPLE AV~UE: ORDINANCE NO. 300 FIRE DEPARTMENT CAPTAIN: ORDINANCE NO. 301 AM~DING ORDINANCE NO. 216 PERSONNEL SYSTEM: LOYALTY OATH ORDINANCE: ANDERSON RESIGNATION: CROSSING SIGNALS BUTLER ROAD: CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: TALENT SHOW: ADJOURNM~T: Councilman Bracco introduced a resolution declaring the city's intention to do certain improvement work on South Maple Avenue between South Canal St. and Victory Avenue. This resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of all m~bers of the council present. Ordinance creating the office of Captain of the Fire Department came up for fianl reading. This ordinance was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Victor Boido, Charles K. F2der, Adolph Sani, Joseph Bracco; Noes, Councilmen, None; Absent, Councilman ~milio Cortesi. Ordinance amending Ordinance No. 216 of the Personnel System, providing for the addition to the competitive service the office and position of Captain of the Fire Department, came up for final reading. This ordinance was adopted by the folll~wing vote: Ayes, Councilmen Victor Boido, Charles K. Elder, Adolph Sani, Joseph Bracco; Noes, Councilmen, None; Absent, CounciLman Emilio Cortesi. An ordinance requiring all persons holding or occupying appointive offices or positions in the service of the City of South San Francisco to take and sub- scribe to a loyalty oath, was introduced. This ordinance was read in its entirety. Lester W. Anderson, Utility Man in the Street Deoartment, submitted his resig- nation to be effective September l, 1950. It was regularly moved, seconded, and carried, that Mr. Anderson's resignation be accepted. Communication was received from the Public Utilities Commission advising t~at the Southern Pacific Company had filed a request with the Commission for authority to replace the existing manually controlled gates at the crossing of Butler Road, with automatically controlled type gates. This matter was referred to the City Manager and Works Engineer. Mr. McLeod, Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, addressed the Council stating that he had been approached by a young woman who wished to act as South San Francisco City Hostess. Mayor Sani stated this matter had been taken up between the council members and they were not in favor of anyone using the name of the City of South San Francisco, and they felt that same should be handled through the Chamber of Commerce. Mr. McLeod brou%ht up the matter of representation by the City at the fiesta on September 13th. He suggested that it might be well to have the Ea~le Talent Show Winner represent the City on this day. On motion of Councilman ~2der, seconded by Councilman Bracco, and regularly carried, the meeting was adjourned to Tuesday, September 5, 1950 at 8 p. m. Time of Adjour~nent - 5:10 p. m.
