CALL TO ORDER: MINUTES: The meeting was called to order at 8:10 p. m. by Mayor Sani. City Clerk havin~ forwarded copy of the minutes of the previous meetinz to all councilmen, Mayor Sani asked if there were any errors or omissions. There being none, the minutes were approved as submitted. HILLSIDE BLVD. SEWER: Councilman Elder moved, seconded bi; Councilman Boido, that bids for the construction of a sanitary sewer in Iii]lside Blvd. be opened. The following bids were received: L. C. Smith Co. B. Miles Thomas Co. McGuire & }{ester ~?alter Lenkeit Ant~lony Izzi Harold T. Treacy H. L. Harp This motion was regularly carried. Communication was received from the Personnel Board advising that the following can- didates had passed the Police Officer examination and were placed on the eligible list: 1. John T. Pawson 90% 2. Purnell Shaffley ~7.2% 3. Jack Jones 83.5% This communication was ordered filed. FIREMAN EXAMINATION: Communication was received from thePersonhel Board advising that t?~e following can- didates had passed the examination for Fireman and were placed on the eligible list: 1. Edward Iskra 77.8% 2. Edward Rodondi 76.7% 3. Jesse M. Garrett .72;'&% This communication was ordered filed. FINAL MAP WINSTON MANOR: Communication was received from theWorks Engineer recommending that the final map of Winston Manor be approved ~ith certain provisi6ns. Councilman Elder moved, seconded by Councilman Boido, that the recommendation of the %'.;orks Engineer be acceDted. This motion was rem~larly carried. PLANNING COMMISSION Communication was received from th e Planning Co.mmission recommendinK the approval of WINSTON MANOR: the final mad of Winston Manor subject to certain conditions. Councilman Elder moved, seconded, by Councilman Boido, that the recommendation of the Planning Commission be accepted. This motion was re~gularly carried. 484 VARIANCE PERMIT MOUNDO ELI: The Planning Commission recommended the granting of a variance permit to Moundo Eli. Councilman ~racco moved, seconded by Councilman Elder, that the recommen- dation of the Planning Commission be accepted. This motion was regularly carried. RESOLUTION NO. 1581 Communication was received from the Planning Commission recommending the aoproval EASEMENT DALY SUBDIVISION:of the abandonment of the existing public ~tilities easement for sewer facilities on the property known as the Daly Subdivision. Councilman Elder introduced a resolution ordering the vacation of sewer easement in tract known as Daly Sub- division. This resolution was adopted, i~y the unanimous vote of all members of the council. GASOLINE TANK GArdEN CHemICAL CO. Communication was received from the Union ()il Company requesting permission to install a gasoline storage tank with gasoline pump at the plant of the Gamten Chemical Company. The Fire Chief apr~roved of this installation. Councilman Elder moved, seconded by Councilman Boido, that permission be granted. This motion was regularly carried. BUSINESS MEN'S ASSN. AUDITORIUM: Communication was received from the Business Men's Association endorsing the construction of a building for an auditorium. This communication was ordered filed with other communications referring to auditorium construction. COLUMBUS DAY PARADE: Communication was received from William A. Borba, Parade Chairman of the South San Francisco Business Men's Association, extending invitation to the Mayor and City Council to be present at the Columbus Day Parade October 22, 1950 at 12:30 p. m. This communication was ordered filed. BUS INF~S LICENSE BARNEY'S & CURL~'S: Application for a business license for a fountain and lunch at 2lA Bayshore Highway was submitted by William H. Lammers. Motion was duly made, seconded, and carried, that license be granted. BUSINESS LICENSE JAY S. CONLEY & CO. Communication was received from Jay S. Conley & Co. submitting application for a business license to conduct a paint manufacturing business at 913 Bayshore High- way. Councilman Elder moved, seconded by Councilman Cortesi, that business license be granted provided all fire regulations are complied with. VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA TAG DAY: Communication was received from Mrs. C. G. Haidos requesting permission for the Volunteers of America to hold a Tag Day in this city on Saturday, October lgth. Motion was duly m~'~de, seconded, and carried, that permission be granted. MANDOLI RESI@~ATION: CLAIMS: Communication was received from Felix Mandoli tendering his resignation as laborer in the Park Department, effective September 3Otb. Motion was duly made, seconded, and carried, that Felix Mjndoli's resignation be accepted. Claims in the amount of $10,807.70 were ap~roved by the Finance Committee. On motion duly made, seconded, and carried, claims as submitted were ordered paid. WINSTON MANOR SEPTIC TANK: Communication was received from the Stonecrest Corporation requesting permission to install a septic tank to serve their temporary construction office. This tank to be removed not later than within 3! years from date. Councilman Elder moved, seconded by Councilman Boido, that permission be granted subject to the a?proval of the Health Department. This motion was regularly carried. HANDICAP WEEK PROCLAMATION: Proclamation s~bmitted by Mayor Sani was read proclaiming the week of October 1st to 7th, 1950 as "EMPLOY THE PHYSICAILY HANDICAPPED l~q~EK"in South San Francisco. The press was asked to ~rint same. R~OLUTION NO. 1582 Councilman Bracco introduced a resolution fixing salaries and hours of city FJ~PLOYEE SALARIES & HOURS:officers and employees. This resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the council. RICCOMI PROTEST: The matter of grading near Mr. Riccomi's property was brought up. The works engineer renorted he had looked over same and he stated this bank is not nearly as high as some of the banks in the recent subdivisions, and it is a condition that has come up which could not be avoided. He stated he would contact Mr. Riccomi and Nicola Re on this matter. SPRUCE AVE. EXTENSION: STOP SIGNS: Superintendent of Streets Schweining stated warning signs had been placed at the north end of Spruce Avenue extension. Councilman Cortesi brought up the matter of stop signs at Eucalyptus and Com- mercial Avenues. This matter was referred to Councilman Cortesi, Chief of Police Belloni, and Superintendent of Streets Schweining. ~ RESOLUTION NO. 1583 HILLSIDE BLVD. Councilman Cortesi introduced a resolution awarding the contract for the cons- truction of a sanitary sewer in Hi]] side Boulevard to the L. C. Smith Co. This resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the counciI. RESOLUTION NO. 1584 SALE OF BUILDING-BELAIR: Councilman Boido introduced a resolution declaring the city's intention to sell a public building located on land acquired for the construction of a sewaKe dis- posal plant. This resolution was ado~ted by the unanimus vote of all members of the council. COUNTY JAIL PRISONKR AGREt~.~FNT: ADJOURNMENT: Acting City .lttorney Lyons stated he had looked over proposed aEreement submitted by the District Attorney's Office, with reference to the payment for prisoners housed at the County Jail and with certain changes he had made, he recommended the approval of this agreement. Councilman Elder moved, seconded by Councilman Bracco, that the form of agreement as sub- mitted be approved. This motion was regularly carried. On motion of Councilman Elder, seconded by Councilman Bracco, and regularly carried, the meeting was adjourned to October 16, 1950 at 8 p. m. Time of Adjournment - 9 P. m. Respectfully submitt ed, City Clerk APPROVED: PLANS & SPECIFICATIONS PARa'fAY TERRACE NO. 3: The ~forks Engineer presented for approval plans and specifications for the street improvements in Parkway Terrace No. 3. The ~forks Engineer stated he had talked with Mr. Re with reference to bank on this property near Mr. Re's property. He also a~vised he had talked with Mr. Shaw of the Land Company,-. who stated this lot ha8 already been sold but possibly some arran-'ements might be .made to take care of possible erosion. On this condition, Council- man Boido moved, seconded by Councilman Bracco, that the recommendation of the ¥forks Engineer be accepted with the proviso that a retaininE wall be in- stalled adjacent to the Riccomi' and Re property. This motion was regularly carried.
