HOUSE, LINDEN AVENUE: NO-BETAS DINNER: FIRE PROTECTION AVALON SCHOOL: PETITION, JUNIPER AVE: MONTHLY REPORTS: REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO HELD MONDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 1951 Council Chambers, City Hall 8p.m. Present: Absent: Councilmen Victor Boido, Charles K. Elder, Adolph Sani, Joseph Bracco, ~Rm~lio Cortesi None The meeting was called to order at 8:10 p. m. by Mayor Sani. City Clerk having forwarded copy of the minutes of the previous meeting to all councilmen, Mayor Sani asked if there were any errors or omissions. There being none, the minutes were approved as submitted. Motion was made by Councilman Elder, seconded by Councilman Boido and regularly carried, that bids for the surfacing of the parking lot at Maple and Miller Avenues be opened. The following bids were submitted: B & D Truck Service Bragato Paving Co. Robert A. Farish J. Henry Harris Lowrie Paving Co. Rosenberg Bros. Frank W. Smith $3614.50 3736.30 6101.25 4612.70 3282.75 3525.50 5047.50 Awarding of the contract was laid over till the next meeting. Communication was received from the Works Engineer submitting the October 1951 Construction Progress Report and Distribution of Construction Costs aaa and recommending that a progress payment of $58,~44.64 be made to the M & K Corp. Motion was made by Councilman Bracco, seconded by CounciLman Elder and regularly carried, that the recommendation of the Works Engineer be accepted and a progress payment of $58,044.64 be made to the M & K Corp. Communication was received from Chief of Police Belloni appointing Frank Baum and Hugh M. Dixon as special officers at Armour and Co. Motion was made by Councilman Elder~ seconded by Counci]3m~n Boido and regularly carried~ that the appointments, as made by the Chief of Police. be confirmed without remuneration from the city. Communication was received from Chief of Police Belloni requesting that the Personnel Board call for examination for the position of Typist-Clerk Steno- grapher in the POlice Department. Motion was made by Councilman Elder, seconded by Councilman Bracco and regularly carried, that the Personnel Board be requested to hold e×~mination for Typist-Clerk Stenographer in the Police Department. Communication was received from Arthur Rodondi tendering his resignation from the Police Department, effective November 30~ 1951. Motion was made by Coun- cilman Bracco, seconded by Councilman Elder, and regularly carried, that the resignation of Arthur Rodondi be accepted and that he be given a letter of recommendation for any future positions. Communication was received from A. W. Sorich Bucket and Drum Co. requesting permission to move a house from South Linden Avenue to the 400 block on Rail- road Avenue. Motion was made by Councilman Elder, seconded by Councilman Boido and regularly carried, that permission be granted, providing the neces- sary moving bond be given. Claims in the amount of $16,077.81 were submitted by the Finance Committee. On motion duly made, seconded and regularly carried, claims as submitted were ordered paid. Communication was received from the No-Betas requesting that the City Council be present at the Warrior-Breaker Bonnet dinner on Saturday~ December 8, 1951. This communication was ordered filed. Communication was received from Fire Chief Welte, with letter from the South San Francisco Unified School District, requesting that fire protection be provided for the Avalon School. Motion was made by Councilman Elder, seconded by Councilman Boido and regularly carried, that with the installation of the necessary fire hydrant, fire protection will be provided the Avalon School by the city. Petition signed by a number of residents of Juniper Avenue, requesting additional lighting and that Juniper Avenue be made a one-way street, was presented. Motion was made by Councilman Elder, seconded by Councilm~.n Bracco and regularly car- ried, that this petition be referred to the Traffic Committee of the Planning Commission. Reports for the month of October 1951 were submitted by the Chief of Police~ City Judge, Building Inspector, H~%mane 0fficer~ Libraryand Fire Chief. On motion duly made, seconded and regularly carried, reports as submitted were accepted and ordered filed. CITIZEN'S COMMITTEE: RESOLUTION NO. 1724 APPROVING DIAGRAM HTIJ.qIDE BOULEVARD: PROTEST HEARING HILLSIDE BLVD: STREET SIGNS WINSTON MANOR: RECORDINGS, CITY MANAGER HEARINGS: AD JO~: Communication was received from the Citizen's Committee with regard to the pamphlet~ "Defining the City Manager's Position." This communication was ordered filed. Councilman Elder introduced a resolution approving the diagram for the public improvement work described in Resolution of Intention No. 1525, adopted by the City Council on March20, 1950. This resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the council. A number of property owners from Hillside Boulevard were present and protested the charges for the work done on Hillside Boulevard. After some discussion, the protest hearing on Hillside Boulevard was laid over till December 3rd. Councilman Cortesi stated that there were no street signs in Winston Manor and suggested that something be done to correct this condition. This matter was referred to the City Manager. Mayor Sani asked that the minutes of the Citizen's Co~n~ttee be turned over to the city. Mr. Noonan felt that same were the property of the con~nSttee and he would like to get the approval of the co~nittee before releasing same. Mr. Rainey stated the committee voted not to release these records to anyone. After some discussion, Mayor Sani asked that the records be turned over to the City Clerk. On motion of Councilman Elder~ seconded by Councilman Boido and regularly carried, the meettng was adjourned to Monday, December 3, 1951 at 8 p. m. Time of Adjournment - 9:15 p. m.
