Present: Absent: Councilmen Victor Boido, Charles K. Elder, Adolph Sani, Joseph Bracco, Emilio Cortesi · None Mayor Sani opened the meeting at 7: BO p.m. " City Clerk having forwarded copy of the minutes of the previous meeting to all councilmen, Mayor Sani asked if there were any errors or omissions. T~ere being none, the minutes were approved as submitted. The following claims were presented against the City of South San Francisco for alleged flood damage: San Francisco Drive-In Theatres Armondo and Catherine Barri Anthony and Avis Davi Frederick and Dorothy K~il $150,000.00 20,000.00 20,000.00 20,000.00 Motion was made by Councilman Elder, seconded by Councilman Cortesi and regu- larly carried, that clatm~ as enumerated be denied. Communication was received from the Division of Highways giving cost of in- stallation of traffic control signal system at the interesection of E1 Camino Real and Spruce Avenue-Hazelwood Drive. This report showed estimated cost to the city of $7607.25 and the Division of Highways asked whether the city was willing to participate in the project at this estimated cost. Motion was made by Councilman Elder, seconded by Councilman Cortesi and regularly carried, that the city participate in this project at the estimated figure. C~m~unication was received from the Works Engineer submitting map of Industrial Acres and rec~maending approval of this map. Communication was also received from the Planning C~ission recommending the approval of the final map of Industrial Acres. Motion was made by Councilman Bracco, seconded by Councilman Cortesi and regularly carried, that the recommendations of the Works Engineer and Planning C~ssiou be accepted and final map of Industrial Acres be approved. An agreement with the California Water Service Co., covering water main to the city property in parcel 59 Zone J, was presented. On motion of Councilman Bracco, seconded by Councilman Cortesi and regularly carried, action on this matter was laid over till the regular meeting. Communications were received from Fred J. Lautze and Virgil M. Ringue tendering their resignations from the Planning C~m,tssion, effective April 15th and April 10th respectively. Motion was made by Councilman Bracco, seconded by Councilman Elder and regularly carried, that the resignations of Fred J. Lautze and Virgil M. Ringue be accepted and letter of thanks for their services be sent them. Mayor Sani submitted the name of Pete Mazzanti to fill the unexpired term of Virgil Rim~ue on the Planning Commission, and Leslie C. Irwin to fill the unex- pired term of Fred Lautze on the Planning Commission, and Fred J. Lautze for reappoint~e~nt to the Housing Authority. Motion was made by Councilman Elder, sec- onded by Councilman Boido and regularly carried, that the names as submitted by the Mayor for appointment to the Planning Commission and Housing Authority be confirmed. Motion was made by Counc~lm~u Elder, seconded by Councilman Bracco and regu- larly carried, that the absentee ballots be opened and canvassed. Mayor Sani appointed Councilmen Bracco, Boido and Elder to open and tally the ballots. Kauffmann 34 RESOLUTION NO. 1749 ELECTION RETURNS: Councilman Elder introduced a resolution canvassing returns and declaring the results of the General Municipal Election held April 8, 1952. Results were as follows: MEMBERS OF CITY COUNCIL Victor Boido 1294 Rmt lio Cortesi 3525 Charles K. Elder 902 Julio DiBasilio 487 Leo Ferko 1257 Andrew Fiore 204 Andy G. Karabatsos 481 Thomas B. Kay 2207 John Noonan 3206 Telford L. Smith 3325 CITY CLERK Daniel J. Hyland 4665 E. P. Kauffmann 4433 This resolution declared Emilio Cortesi, John Noonan and Telford L. Smith elected as members of the city council aud E. P. Kauffmann elected City Treas- urer and Daniel J. Eyland elected City Clerk. This resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the council. Acting City Attorney Richard Lyons swore in Daniel J. Hyland as City Clerk for the ensuing four years. City ClerkNyland then swore in E. P. Kauffmann City Treasurer; Rmtlio Cortesi, John Noonan and Telford L. Smith as City Councilmen for the ensuing four years. Mayor Sani during his Councilman men. They of office. thanked the people and the outgoing councilmen for their co-operation term of office and congratulated the newly elected councilmen. Elder and Councilman Boido also congratulated the incoming council- both felt that they had accomplished a great deal during their term Telford L. Smith and John Noonan then took their seats as Councilmen. Mayor Sani stated the first order of business should be the appointing of a Mayor. Councilman Bracco moved that Emilio Cortesi be appointed Mayor. Coun- cilman John Noonan seconded the motion and same was regularly carried. Mayor Cortesi, on taking his seat as the newly elected Mayor, asked that all co-operate in the running of the city and felt sure that the city would progress. Councilmen Smith and Noonan spoke and pledged themselves to do everything pos- sible for better government. Remarks were made by City Treasurer Kauffmann, City Clerk Ryland, Thomas Kay, Julio DiBasilio, and Carroll Bucher. Outgoing Mayor Sani again expressed appreciation for the co-operation accorded him during his termas Mayor, and stated he would work in harmony with the new board. Councilman Bracco congratulated the new councilmen and stated there were many problems he had in mind to take Up during the coming term. On motion of Councilman Bracco, seconded by Councilman Sani and regularly car- ried, the meetlngwas adjourned to April 21, 1952 at 8 p. m. Time of Adjournment 9:10 p. m.
