The meeting was called to order by Mayor Rozzi at 8:10 p.m. Present: Councilmen Rozzi, Rocca and Cortesi. Absent: Councilmen Lucchio and Ryan. Mayor Rozzi opened the meeting, stating thaz it was a continuation of the public hearing for the formation of the Downtown Parking District. Lengthy discussion took place, at which time the following persons spoke concerning the matter of the Downtown Parking District. John Ertola, attorney at law representing Mr. A. J. Scampini, explained the modificatiomas made to the District, expla:ning the change in the walkway next to t.~e Safeway Store on Grand Avenue presently owned by the Bay View Federal Savings and Loan Company. Ruldolp-.~ Santini - concerning the possible Lse of Mr. Kauffmann's building for a walkway, presently occupied by J. C. Penney Company. C. Swett - suggested use of Ben Franklin Store as walkway. R. Santlni - use of Ben Franklin Store was r_ot investigated. John Er~oLa - explained legal aspects regaraing use of building for walkway. C. Swet: - felt it would be advisable to put walkway through Ben Franklin Store. l~ayor Rozzi - suggested that committee of Bnsinessmen's Association investigate this. B. J. Rodondi - discussed further use of walkway through store as required by Parking )-strict. ~layor Rozzi - explained new Resolution of Ir. tention that must be prepared, Parking ~Lthority that is then appointed, and its functions. John F,r~oLa - outside appraisers to be used in setting land values on property to be a~q~ired. A. Sani - asked if District was modified since last meeting. Mayor Rozzi - explained District having been left as before. City Attorney Noonan - as to whether any cha2ges were made in the area. John Ertola - area is same as originally set. Mayor Rozzi - stated as much publicity as possible would be given meetings to be held. A. Sani - again objecting to the Parking Dis:rict as it did not benefit his property. Sllvio lieri - offers his property for use as parking lot. Mrs. Irene Tognoli - requests information as to what value was placed on her property. Representatives of Mrs. Klesling - register ~pposition to procurement of mother's property for use of Parking Distric:. Express willingness to lease but not to sell or tire up property. Further discussion took place between the Council, after which Councilman Rocca moved, seconded by Councilman Cortesi and regularly carried, that the hearing ~e continued until June 17, 1957, at 8 p.m. Time of adjournment: 9:12 p.m.
