HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 1977-08-05275 ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO HELD AUGUST 5, 1977 TIME: PLACE: CALL TO ORDER: PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO FLAG: ROLL CALL: CITY STRIKE 5'3 RECESS: RECALL TO ORDER: 7:30 PM. Council Conference Room, City Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Damonte at 7:30 PM. The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was recited. Present: Councilmen Richard A. Battaglia, William A. Emanuele N. Damonte, Terry J. Mirri and Leo Padreddii. Borba, Absent: None. The City Manager briefly commented on the purpose of the adjourned meeting which could be further adjourned by Council to consecutive nights during which time the negotiating teams and mediator could be meeting. Pete Mannion, representing the striking municipal employees, stated that if a conclusion could be reached by Sunday night, the employees could be back to work on Monday. He commented that the latest proposal was taken to the employees this afternoon, but a motion for ballot could not be obtained. He suggested that a public discussion and negotiation be conducted. He concluded by stating that they were prepared to meet Sunday night and continue every night until the matter was solved. Mayor Damonte recessed the meeting at 7:42 PM to an Executive Personnel Session. The City Clerk was excused from attending. The meeting was recalled to order by Mayor Damonte at 8:49 PM with all Council present. Mayor Damonte made the following statement: "We have just had an Executive Session regarding labor negotiations, and we have instructed our negotiating team to meet with the mediator tonight and we will adjourn this meeting to CITY STRIKE (CONT' D. ) ADJOURNMENT Sunday for consecutive nights Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and providing our team has something of importance to tell us we will meet. If not, we will not meet." He further stated that the meetings would be held at 7:30 PM. There being nothing further to come before Council, Councilman Padreddii moved, seconded by Councilman Battaglia and regularly carried that the meeting be adjourned. Time of adjournment was 8:50 PM.
