LEGISLATIVE BUSINESS
Mayor Teglia questioned why the ordinan-
ces were being introduced before public
hearings were held.
City Attorney Armento stated that State
Law was very specific on the adoption of
Uniform Codes, and was different than the
normal ordinance activity. She con-
tinued, State Law requires that the
Council introduce the ordinance, and then
call for the Public Hearing. She stated
that it must be advertised twice before
the Public Hearing is held, and that the
Council hold the Public Hearing at the
adoption time; and this was because the
Council was adopting Uniform Codes by
reference.
Mayor Teglia questioned if the Council
could change the ordinances after the
Public Hearing was held.
City Attorney Armento answered in the
affirmative.
Councilman Nicolopulos questioned page 1

"State law requires that we approve all
amendments to the uniform model codes
prior to January 1, 1989."
Director of Economic & Community
Development Costello stated that that was
a mistake, and should read "prior to
January 1, 1990."
Motion by Councilman Nicolopulos - To
waive reading and introduce the seven
ordinances.
Councilman Nicolopulos complimented Ms.
Costello on the ordinances being intro-
