The proposed changes would promote environmental stewardship and reforestation of trees removed due to disease or age, The revisions also incorporated best practices with the current tree management plan and were intended to protect residents from falling trees or branches. City maintenance of residents' front yard trees was also proposed for termination. Councilwoman Normandy queried the impact of the revised ordinances on future tree plantings in new developments. She cited the example of the recently approved Sares Regis Development. Director Ranals advised that the Sares Regis tree proposal would not have sufficed under the revised ordinances. City Manager Futrell advised that future development agreements would not include provisions authorizing City Maintenance of private tree placements, Vice Mayor Gupta queried how the changes to the ordinance would impact the City's liability risk.
