Call to Order 7:05 p.m. 2. Roll Call Present: o o (Cassette Tape No. 1) Councilmembers Femekes, Garbarino and Gonzalez, Vice Mayor Green and Mayor Matsumoto Absent: None Oral Communications None Mayor declares the purpose of the meeting a. Pledge of Allegiance - led by Scott Green b. National Anthem - Star Spangled Banner was sung by Mamie and Nicole Molano c. Invocation - Reverend Agnel De Heredia, Pastor of All Souls Church Reorganization of the City Council a. Nominations for Mayor; close of nominations; selection of Mayor Motion-Fernekes/Second-Gonzalez: To nominate and elect Vice Mayor Green as Mayor. Unanimously approved by voice vote. b. Remarks from Outgoing Mayor, passing of the gavel to Incoming Mayor and a presentation to Outgoing Mayor Outgoing Mayor Matsumoto reflected on her past year in office and compared it to her first term as Mayor in 2000. She stated that she will continue to work to assure that the City has diversified revenue streams in order to maintain quality City services and programs. She announced that this year's Mayor's Award is being awarded to the South San Francisco Scavenger Company as a good corporate citizen and community partner. Outgoing Mayor Matsumoto concluded by passing the gavel to Incoming Mayor Green. On behalf of Council, Incoming Mayor Green presented a commending resolution, gavel plaque and presentation flowers to Outgoing Mayor Matsumoto. The oath of office was given to Incoming Mayor Green by his brother, Fire Battalion Chief Bob Green. c. Nominations for Mayor Pro Tem; close of nominations; selection of Mayor Pro Tem Motion-Garbarino/Second-Matsumoto: To nominate and elect Councilman Fernekes as Mayor Pro Tem. Unanimously approved by voice vote. d. Incoming Mayor's remarks Mayor Green commented that he is the 55th Mayor of South San Francisco and next year will begin his 55th year of residence in the city. He addressed the economic hardship that the City has gone through, the property taxes and redevelopment agency funds that the State has taken away from the City, the budget cuts that the City has had to make, and Council's fiscal responsibilities. He reviewed the anticipated projects that will sustain the City during the next year and acknowledged staff's efforts, the community service clubs, boards and commission members and the chamber of commerce for their work. Mayor Green stated his goal is to build momentum in 2005 for the coming years. He concluded by inviting all to attend a reception in the social hall. e. Closing Song - God Bless America was sung by Mamie and Nicole Molano. 6.
