ADMINSTRATIVE BUSINESS:
1. Election of Chair and Vice Chair
Committee Member Olma O’Neill nominated Natalie Gore for the Chair positioned, committee
accepted her and voted Natalie to be the next chair of the Committee.
Committee Member Amir Thagavis nominated himself to be the next Vice-Chair, committed
second the motion, accepted and voted for Committee Member, Amir Thagavis to be the next
Vice-Chair to the Committee.
2. A Motioned was brought by Committee Member to move an item in the order of the agenda, an
item from the Staff Comments was brought to number 2 in the agenda, with all members approving
the motion.
Item: Staff from the Library did a presentation regarding participation of BPAC with the Library for
the Book Grant from the “California Center of the Book”. The Grant was awarded to the South San
Francisco Library and it was, one of 25 States in the country to get it.
Presentation by Stacey Lin and Brittany Austin, SSF Librarians;
Books chosen:
1. “A whole in the Wind”
o This is a book that talks about a sustainable transportation Choices
o Climate Change
o Author, will be here in SSf in April
2. “March”
BPAC participation can be in a form of attending an event; or watching a movie; and or
having an open House Day for the BPAC Meeting
o To organize an Event or Program:
can be to watch a movie: 30 mins 0r 90 mins movie
to attend : Fix It Clinic (multiple types of fixes) , one day event scheduled for
march 30th in the Main Library
o Timeline for participation:
End of June, to report in July
Event schedule in the main library
To plan and organized event by the end of January

Are the events during the day or on Saturdays?
Can one of the programs/events be done with BPAC Meeting?
Library: Stacey, yes the events are on Saturdays or weekends and can be combined with
a BPAC Meeting.

The Committee proposed to discuss how to participate in this programs in next meeting :

o Committee requested to have two dates for two events from the Library to discuss it
next meeting
o to have a movie night and a BPAC Meeting
o A 30 mins movie and Alta Presentation update
o A Movie night with a Q & A Section about BPAC
3. Police Department Collision Data Analysis
Sargent Hill did a presentation to the Committee with a Power Point Presentation that explains
and showed the points of pedestrian collision during the last five years. Out of 182 collisions 4
had been fatalities.
Committee Comments:
Are any bicyclist fatalities shown on the map?
How does SSf compare with other Cities on this report?
Can Committee request a report with bicyclists’ fatalities?
o PD: No Bicyclist fatalities are shown on this map.
o PD: Do not have information about the comparison tonight
o PD, yes bicyclists report can be given to Committee for information only. The report will
be channeled through staff. Information is extremely confidential and sensitive in this
kind of reports, to be kept very confidential.
How does the PD think this number of fatalities could have been avoided:
o PD: painting lanes and divisions on the streets
o PD: replacing light on streets and also replacing stop signs light
The crossings at Westborough are very complicated and need some attention, has this issue
been addressed?
o PD: yes this issues has been addressed at TAG Mtg, but no decision has been formulated
yet
Is this report available to the public?
o PD: do not have this information will check with PD
Have there been any fatalities due to the closing of sidewalks in DT?
o PD: not on file

4. Alta Planning Update - Bike and Pedestrian Master Plan
Otto Melara with Alta Planning presented the Committee an update on the website:
www.ActiveSouthCity.com
In the section called “Interactive Map” anyone can leave a comment following the prompts in
this map either drawing a route or typing an address or just leaving a comment. Web tool is
very easy friendly to use.
Mr. Melara requested assistance from members as to how to distribute the information for this
new webpage; also mentioned that this information will be sent this week to Chamber of
Commerce, SSF Newsletter, also a business card with the information of the website will be

available for distribution to the public, this has been a great tool used by other cities for the
distribution of the information of the webpage.

Committee request that link and short pitch (talking points) be sent to committee via staff for
the distribution of information to the different places.
Committee also voted to approve this new web tool: APPROVED, all yes

This active Tool is in the initial phase and recommendations?
Who owns this toll?
o Alta Planning: yes this active tool is the first phase
o Alta Planning: this tool was created by Alta, City paid for the development of the tool for
SSF. At the end of the process City will decide to purchase it or not.
Which other Cities are using this web tool at this time?
o Alta Planning: at the present is Pacifica, Burlingame, San Carlos and HMB
For next meeting can we please see the progress shown based on using this new tool?
o Alta Planning: yes
4. DRAFT BPAC Ordinance
Secretary Lucero presented the Committee with w DRAFT Ordinance for their review and
comments. Secretary Lucero also explained that Ordinance was reviewed by legal and was
delayed due to the election in 2018.
Committee provided comments under Section 2.82.080 Committee role and responsibilities
that will be reflected into draft presented to the City Council for approval.
