TELECONFERENCE MEETING Welcome to the Meeting of the Cultural Arts Commission. Please note that the Cultural Arts Commission may meet by teleconference, consistent with the Brown Act as amended by AB 361 (2021). Under the amended rules, the City will not provide a physical location for members of the public to participate in the teleconference meeting. The purpose of conducting the meeting as described in this notice is to provide the safest environment for staff and the public while allowing for public participation. Commissioners Boldenweck, Bond, Bowen, DeNatale, Foley, Maharaj, Ramos, Vice Chair Mardahay, and essential City staff will participate via Teleconference. Members of the public may submit their comments on any agenda item or public comment via email or Parks & Recreation main line. PURSUANT TO RALPH M. BROWN ACT, GOVERNMENT CODE SECTION 54953, ALL VOTES SHALL BE BY ROLL CALL DUE TO COMMISSIONERS PARTICIPATING BY TELECONFERENCE. In accordance with California Government Code Section 54957.5, any writing or document that is a public record, relates to an open session agenda item, and is distributed less than 72 hours prior to a regular meeting will be made available for public inspection at the Parks and Recreation Department in the Municipal Services Building. Art Builds Community Introduction ▪ Business Mgr. O’Brien introduced Barbara Goldstein and Gail Goldman, the representatives from Art Builds Community, who will serve as the planning consultants for the Public Art Master Plan. ▪ Ms. Goldstein and Ms. Goldman gave a brief presentation on steps the team has already taken in the research and development of the Public Art Master Plan, and asked the commission for their input to help form the plan focusing on the representation of arts and culture in this community. VIII. SUBCOMMITTEES: 1. Strategic Vision ▪ No update. 2. Sculpture Cultural Arts Commission Minutes of June 21, 2022 Page 2 ▪ No update. 3. Urban Art ▪ Commissioner DeNatale reported that the mural by Skyline College students at Alta Loma Park is nearing completion with one final wall set to be completed by the end of July. ▪ Commission members expressed their admiration and appreciation for the project. 4. Youth Art Programs ▪ Commissioner Bowen informed the Commission about the plans for the upcoming Cultural Arts BBQ Fundraiser on Sunday, August 28, 2022. ▪ This fundraiser will include live entertainment, a silent auction, as well as a potential new element partnering with Artist on Wheels. ▪ Commissioner DeNatale explained that the subcommittee is looking for four to six local vendors to sell their art during the fundraiser. Vendor booths would be asked to make a donation to the Jack Drago Cultural Arts Commission Youth Art Scholarship Fund. ▪ All Commissioners will be mailed 10 tickets to sell and spread the word about this event. ▪ Commissioners should keep their schedules open to work the event. 5. Handcrafted Art & Craft Show (July 15-16, 2022) ▪ Specialist Santos gave the Commission a progress update of the preparation of the event, and she encouraged the Commission to continue signing up as docents. 6. Performing Arts ▪ No update. 7. Community Engagement ▪ Vice Chair Mardahay explained that the committee is focusing efforts on compiling a donor list for the fundraiser and plan to do outreach to those on the list for silent auction items. IX. ITEMS FROM COMMISSION Announcement ▪ Commissioner DeNatale brought to the attention of the Commission that June, the month that recognizes LGBTQIA+, will have the first of the month fall on a Saturday and Sunday in 2024 and 2025. Commissioner DeNatale encouraged future conversations on how the Commission may be able to support the City’s efforts for this celebration. ▪ Commissioner Hobson-Coard announced that this was her last meeting with the Cultural Arts Commission as she will be joining the Commission on Equity and Public Safety. X. ITEMS FROM STAFF 1. Upcoming Events Cultural Arts Commission Minutes of June 21, 2022 Page 3 ▪ The third and final workshop event for the New Aquatic Center Project will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Joseph A. Fernekes Recreation Building on Saturday, June 25, 2022. ▪ Specialist Santos informed the Commission of several exhibits happening in the Bay Area, including the Obama portrait and the Guadalupe exhibit at the Legion of Honor.
