Box 711 (City Hall, 400 Grand Avenue) South San Francisco, CA File #:23-807 Agenda Date:9/21/2023 Version:1 Item #: Media Selection for the February 2024 Art Show (Ercie Santos, Cultural Arts Specialist) RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the Cultural Arts Commission identify the media for the three 2024 adult art shows. BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION Traditionally the media for the upcoming year’s art show is selected by the Commission in late summer or early fall. The subcommittee chairs for the three adult art shows make recommendations for their respective programs. The 2024 art show dates are as follows: 1.February 9 and 10 2.April dates TBD (Youth Art Show scheduled) 3.June 14 and 15 4.October 11 and 12 Except for the first art show in February, specific program details are not necessary at this time. That information can be determined, and staff should be notified approximately four months prior to the event date or earlier if the subcommittee chair chooses. It is important to establish the art media for the upcoming calendar year.It allows for planning the utilization of facilities, resources and any possible research.Early promotion can begin. The events can be listed in formal Park and Recreation calendars and brochures.Artists and guests who anticipate these regularly occurring art events occasionally will inquire about when specific media will be exhibited.Artists that work in media that requires time to fashion can plan. The community looks forward to knowing the projected schedule. The commission benefits by highlighting robust annual art gallery programs that illustrate a commitment to community participation in the arts. CONCLUSION The Cultural Arts Commission should determine the art media for the three 2024 adult art shows. This information will allow a reasonable amount of time for early planning and promotion. Box 711 (City Hall, 400 Grand Avenue) South San Francisco, CA File #:23-808 Agenda Date:9/21/2023 Version:1 Item #: Cancellation of December 21, 2023 Meeting (Ercie Santos,Cultural Arts Specialist) RECOMMENDATION The cancellation of the December 21, 2023, regular Cultural Arts Commission meeting is under consideration. BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION Historically, the Cultural Arts Commissions are asked if they would like to cancel their regular meetings twice in a calendar year, once for the summer and once for the December holiday season. This offer is common across all boards and commissions as cancellations allow Commissioners to take time off for extra holiday and year end commitments without it being counted as a meeting absence. Apart from one year, the Cultural Arts Commission has always elected to cancel the December meetings. The subcommittees can convene if they desire.Staff continues with the Commission’s work during this time. Potential tasks include: ·February 2024 Art Show - preparations and promotion for the live and virtual art show. ·Public Art program needs - continued implementation. ·Solo art exhibit preparation. ·Year end and year beginning organization. ·April Youth Art Show - initial preparations ·Research and tasks related to goals set by subcommittees. CONCLUSION The Cultural Arts Commission is invited to consider cancellation of the December 2023 meeting. City of South San Francisco Printed on 9/15/2023Page 1 of 1 powered by Legistar™16
