AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO MUNICIPAL CODE
SECTIONS 6.44.020, 6.44.030, 20.06.050, 20.22.045, 20.24.025, 20.24.030,
20.32.030, 20.30.030, AND 20.06.070 TO REDEFINE "AMUSEMENT ARCADES,"
TO DEFINE "RENTAL CAR STORAGE LOTS," TO DEFINE "RENTAL CAR FLEET
MAINTENANCE," TO PERMIT RENTAL CAR STORAGE AS A CONDITIONAL USE IN
THE P-C PLANNED COMMERCIAL ZONE DISTRICT AND THE P-I PLANNED
INDUSTRIAL DISTRICT, AND TO PERMIT RENTAL CAR FLEET MAINTENANCE AS
A CONDITIONAL USE IN THE M-1 INDUSTRIAL ZONE DISTRICT
The City of South San Francisco does ordain as follows:
Section 1: Amusement Arcades
Title 6 of the South San Francisco Municipal Code (Business Regulations),
section 6.44.030A (Amusement Arcade) is hereby amended to read as
follows:
'6.44.030A. Amusement Arcade.
Public place of amusement or public place of business in which four or more
coin-operated amusement devices are installed and includes any place open
to the public, whether or not the primary use of the premises is devoted to
the operation of such devices.
Title 20 of the South San Francisco Municipal Code (Zoning), section
20.06.070(i)(1) (Amusement Arcade) is hereby amended to read as follows:
'20.06.070(i){ 1 )Amusement Arcade.
Public place of amusement or public place of business in which four or more
coin-operated amusement devices are installed and includes any place open
to the public, whether or not the primary use of the premises is devoted to
the operation of such devices.
Title 6 of the South San Francisco Municipal Code (Business Regulations),
section 6.44.020 is hereby amended to read as follows:
'6.44.020 Amusement Arcades - Use Permit Required.
'It is unlawful for any person to operate or maintain, or allow to be operated
or maintained, any amusement arcade, as defined elsewhere herein, in
violation of any provision of this Chapter or without having first obtained a
condition use permit or a minor use permit as required by this Chapter and
Title 20 of the this code.
D. Title 20 of the South San Francisco Municipal Code (Zoning), section
20.22.035 is hereby added to read as follows:
"20.22.035 - Uses Subject to a Minor Use Permit
Commercial Use Types
"Commercial Recreation:
Amusement Arcade with 4 or 5 coin-operated amusement devices
E. Title 20 of the South San Francisco Municipal Code (Zoning), section
20.24.045 is hereby added to read as follows:
"20.24.025 - Uses Subject to a Minor Use Permit
Commercial Use Types
"Commercial Recreation:
Amusement Arcade with 4 or 5 coin-operated amusement devices
F. Title 20 of the South San Francisco Municipal Code (Zoning),
section 20.22.040 is hereby amended, in part, to read as follows:
Commercial Use Types
"Commercial Recreation: ...
Amusement Arcade with six or more coin-operated amusement devices ..."
G. Title 20 of the South San Francisco Municipal Code (Zoning), section
20.24.030 is hereby amended, in part, to read as follows:
Commercial Use Types
"Commercial Recreation: ...
Amusement Arcade with six or more coin-operated amusement devices
(within movie theaters only) ..."
Section 2: Rental Car Storage Lots
A. Title 20 of the South San Francisco Municipal Code (Zoning), section
20.06.050(p) (definitions, use classification "A", Automotive and Equipment) is
hereby amended by adding the following definition:

'Rental Car Storage."
Parking or storage of operable motor vehicles for rental car agencies, leasing
agencies, or any company or business engaged in the rental or leasing of
motor vehicles, where more than 30% of annual rental transactions relating
to those parked or stored motor vehicles occurs off-site.
Title 20 of the South San Francisco Municipal Code (Zoning), section
20.24.030(c) (P-C Planned Commercial District use regulations, uses
permitted subject to a conditional use permit, commercial use types) is
hereby amended by adding:
"Rental Car Storage
"# Footnote: Restricted to areas located underneath major utility lines or
under elevated freeways."
Title 20 of the South San Francisco Municipal Code (Zoning), section
20.32.030(c) (P-I) Planned Industrial District use regulations, uses permitted
subject to a conditional use permit, commercial use types) is hereby
amended by adding:
"Rental Car Storage #"

under elevated freeways."
Section 3: Rental Car Fleet Maintenance
Title 20 of the South San Francisco Municipal Code (Zoning), section
20.06.050(p) (definitions, use classification "A", Automotive and
Equipment) is hereby amended by adding a new subsection:
(10) "Rental Car Fleet Maintenance."
Maintaining, servicing, cleaning, performing engine overhauls, customizing or
painting of motor vehicles for rental car agencies, car leasing agencies, or
any company or business engaged in the rental or leasing of motor vehicles.
Title 20 of the South San Francisco Municipal Code (Zoning), section
20.30~030(c) (Mol Industrial District use regulations, uses permitted subject
to a conditional use permit, commercial use types) is hereby amended by
adding:
"rental car fleet maintenance"
Section 4: Severability
In the event any section or portion of this ordinance shall be determined invalid or
unconstitutional, such section or portion shall be deemed severable and all other sections
or portions hereof shall remain in full force and effect.
Section 5: Publication and Effective Date
This Ordinance shall be published once, with the names of those City
Councilmembers voting for or against it, in the San Mateo Times, a newspaper of general
circulation in the City of South San Francisco, as required by law, and shall become
effective thirty (30) days from and after its adoption.
Introduced at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of South San Francisco,
held the 24th day of November, 1998.
Adopted as an Ordinance of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting of the
City Council of the City of South San Francisco, held the 91~h day of December, 1998 by
the following vote:
