CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION URGING THE EARLY COMPLETION OF
THE ACQUISITION OF THE POINT REYES NATIONAL
SEASH0 RE.
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South
San Francisco that:
WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States authorized
the establishment of the Point Reyes National Seashore in 1962
and established its boundaries and size; and
WHEREAS, piecemeal acquisition of properties has resulted
in a disjointed and inoperable park and caused undue burdens
upon the remaining private ir.terests which are plagued by
trespassers and the uncertair.ty of the time of future acquisi-
tions; and
WHEREAS, the cost .of the authorized acquisition will do
nothing but increase, and the prolonged uncontrolled use by
private interests may do irreparable injury to the land and
the reason for its acquisition; and
WHEREAS, the people of the United States in whose name
Congress acted to establish the Point Reyes National Seashore
have the vested right to see the consummation of the plan and
the early establishment of tke park in the manner and to the
extent envisioned in the justification of the original action
by Congress;
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED THAT:
1. The Point Reyes National Seashore is of vital import-
ance to each citizen of the I-nited States as a representative
contribution from this generation to the next in the spirit
of the National Park System.
2. This Council joins with other public agencies and
it does hereby, to urge that the President of the United States
and his administration take the action necessary to complete
the acquisition of the Point Reyes National Seashore in the

manner approved by Congress in order that the entire area may
be preserved in the natural state for the benefit and enjoy-
ment of future Americans.
3. The City Clerk be, and he is hereby, directed to
cause certified copies of tills Resolution to be sent to:
The Honorable Richard iX. Nixon, President of the United States;
The Honorable Ronald Reagan, Governor of the State of California;
The Honorable Walter J. Hickel, Secretary of the Interior;
Mr. George B. Hartzog, Director of the National Park Service;
The Honorable George Murphy and Alan Cranston, Senators from the State of California;
The Honorable Paul N. McCloskey, Jr., Member of
the House of Representatives from the County
of San Mateo;
The Honorable Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo; and
The Honorable Council of the Cities of the County of San Mateo,
as evidence of the opinion of this Council that immediate
steps must be taken to establish and preserve this area of
the California Coastline as the Point Reyes National Seashore.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was
regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the
