REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO
STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION GRANTING A VARIANCE TO
AUTHORIZE TWO 320 SQUARE FOOT
ADVERTISING SIGNS TO BE INSTALLED
AT 651 GATEWAY BOULEVARD
WHEREAS, Section D2a(6) of the Gateway Specific Plan and
Section 20.57.450 of the South San Francisco Municipal Code allow
one sign to be erected on a site within the Gateway Specific Plan
District to offer said site for sale or lease; and
WHEREAS, sign erected pursuant to the foregoing sections are
limited to a size not to exceed twenty (20) square feet; and
WHEREAS, Homart Development Company (hereinafter "Homart")
has requested a variance permit to allow the installation of two
signs, each having a total of 320 square feet, on the building at
651 Gateway Boulevard as shown on Exhibit "A" attached hereto;
and
WHEREAS, the Redevelopment Agency is authorized by Section H
of the Gateway Specific Plan and Sections 20.57.610 through
20.57.650 of the South San Francisco Municipal Code to grant or
deny requests for permits for variances from the provisions of
the Gateway Specific Plan and Chapter 20.57 of the Municipal
Code; and
WHEREAS, the Redevelopment Agency has held a properly
noticed Public Hearing on December 10, 1986 at 7:00 p.m. and has
considered the request of Homart, the Staff Report and
attachments thereto, and the comments received during said Public
Hearing;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Redevelopment Agency
of the City of South San Francisco that:
1. The Redevelopment Agency finds that:
(a) It is necessary to the success of the Gateway
Redevelopment Project to provide adequate on-site signing
for advertising purposes; and
(b) Considering the size and location of the building
at 651 Gateway Boulevard, two signs each having a total area
of 320 square feet are reasonable and necessary to provide
adequate on-site advertising of the availability of space
within said building; and
(c) Based upon the foregoing, the variance sought
herein will be in harmony with the general purpose of the
Gateway Specific Plan; and
(d) Unnecessary hardships and results inconsistent
with the general purpose of the Gateway Specific Plan may
result from the strict application of Section D2a(6) of the
Gateway Specific Plan and of Section 20.57.450 of the South
San Francisco Municipal Code limiting the size and number of
outside signs offering the site for sale or lease.
2. Based upon the foregoing findings, the variance
requested by Homart to allow installation of two signs, each
having a total area of 320 square feet, the design of which is
attached hereto as Exhibit "A", is hereby approved subject to the
- following conditions:
(a) The variance granted herein is limited to two (2)
signs which are of the size, color and design as shown on
Exhibit "A" attached hereto; and
(b) The signs shall be fastened to the building in
accordance with requirements of the City's Building
Division; and
(c) Homart must obtain a building permit from the
City's Building Division before the signs may be installed;
and
(d) Approval of the variance granted herein shall be
for a twenty-four (24) month period from the date of
installation.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly
