BETV~EEN CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO AND G. H.
THO~ASON
WHEREAS the City of South San ~¥ancisco, as lessor, and G. H. Thomson,
as lessee, did, on the 18th day of April, 1932, enter into a lease, bearing that
date, wherein said City of South San Francisco let and demised unto said G. H.
Thomson certain land belonging to said City of South Sm Francisco, for the pur-
pose of erecting, maintaining and operating an electric sign thereon; and
WHEREAS .'said G. H. Thomson has assigned said lease to South San Francisco
Sign Co., and
WHEREAS said City of South San Francisco and said South Ss~ Francisco
Sign Co. desire to change certain of thee terms of said lease;
NOW TP~REFORE, resolved by the City Council of the City of South San
Francisco that paragraphs l, 5, 6 and 7 of said lease be amended as follows:
Paragraph i of said lease shall b e amended so that said p~ragraph l,
as amended, shall read as follows:
1. That said premises hereby leased are to b e used and occupied by said
lessee for the purpose of erecting, maintaining and operating an electric sign,
and sign of painted letters thereon, and for no other purpose, except such purposes
as are incident to the erection, maintenance and operation of said sign. The word
"sign" as used herein, shall include the structure to be erected by said lessee for
the purposes 6f displaying illuminated and painted letters and other illuminated
and painted characters, as well as all equipment used in connection therewith.
Paragraph 5 of said lease shall, as amended, read as follows:
5. On any sign constructed and operated on said land, under the pro-
visions of this lease, on which advertising matter may be displayed by said lessee
in characters illuminated with the aid of electricity alone, or in combination with
any gaseous or solid material, there shall be displayed in letters illuminated by
electricity, during one-seventh (l/V) of the dark portion of each night throughout one
hundred and eighty-two (182), consecutive, or otherwise, of each year during which
said sign may be operated, the expression "South San ~Tancisco", and some other
brief expression designed to advertise South San Francisco, which expression shall
be selected by the lessor, in one or two lines of letters extending for the greater
part of the length of the sign. T~e name "South San Francisco" shall be displayed
in a single illuminated flash and such other brief expression, herein provided for,
shall be displayed in another illuminated flash. The letters or characters lo be dis-
played shall b e equal in size to the letters which shall be used for other advertising
purposes on such sign and the illumination of such letters shall be equal in intensity
to the illumination of such other letters.

NOW THEREFORE, resolved by the City Council of the City of South San
Francisco that paragraphs l, 5, 8 and V of said lease be amended as follows:

This lease shall become void in the event of the failure of said lessee to
strictly comply with the provisions of this paragraph, except as hereinafter expressly
provided.
Paragraph 6 of said lease shall, as ~nended, teas as follows:
6. During one-seventh (l/V) of the dark portion of the remaining part of each
year during which said sign may be opeeated, said lessee will display for said lessor
in letters illuminated by electricity, such matter in language as may be requested by
said lessor from time to time, in one line of letters extending for the entire length
of said sign during the continuance of this lease, which letters shall conform with
the provisions contained in paragraph 5 hereof with respect to size of letters and
intensity of illumination.
Paragraph 7 of said lease shall, as amended, read as follows:
7. The advertising service herein contemplated to be rendered
by said lessee to said lessor shall extend through one-seventh (1/7) of the
dark portion of each night of said term, but at such intervals as are con-
sistent with the operation of said sign in the interest of the partons of
said lessee, it being understood that the aggregate of said intervals shall
amount to one-seventh (1/7) of the dark portion of each night. Said lessee
shallb e entitled to written notice five (~) days in advance of commencing
the display of any matter which said lessor shall request said lessee to

under the terms of this lease.
The Nayor of said city and the City Clerk are hereby ~uthorized and dir-
ected, in the name of said City of South San Francisco and under its corporate
seal, to execute an agreement for the purpose of amending said lease in accord-
~ce with the provisions of this resolution.

I hereby certify t~hat the foregoing resolution was regularly introduced
and adopted by the City Council of the City of Sou~th San Francisco this ~?'th
