FOR ELECTRIC SIGN
?~HEREAS the City of South San Francisco, as lessor, and G. H. Thomson, as
lessee, did, on the 18th day of April, 1932, enter into a lease, beraing that date,
wherein said City of South San Francisco let and demised unto said G. H. Thomson
certain land belonging to said City of South San Francisco, fo r the purpose of
erecting, maintaining and operating an electric sign thereon; and
WHEREAS, said G. it. Thomson has assigned said lease to South S~n ~aucisco
Sign Co.; and
V~P~REAS said City of South San Francisco and said South San Francisco sign
Co. desire to change certain of the terns of said lease;
NOW, TD~EREFORE, resolved by the City Council of the City of South San Fran-
cisco that paragraphs l, 5, 6 and V of said lease be amendedas follows:
Paragraph i of said lease shall be amended so that said parapgraph l, as
amended, shall read as follows:
1. That said premises hereby leased are to be used and occupied by said
lessee for the purpose of erecting, maintaining and operating an electric sign,
and sign of painted.letters thereon, and for no other purpose, except such pur-
poses as are incident to the erection, maintenance and operation of said sign.
The word "sign" as used herein, shall include the structure to be erected by said
lessee for the purposes of displaying illuminated and painted letters and other
illuminated and painted characters, as well as all equipment used in connection
the rewith.
Paragraph 5 of said lease shall, as amended, read as follows:
5. On any sign constructed and operated on said land, under the provisions
of this lease, on which advertising matter may be displayed by said lessee in
characters illuminated with the aid of electricityalone, or in combination with
any gaseous or solid materia~ there shall be displayed in letters illuminated by
electricity, during one-seventh (l/V) of the dark portion of each night throughout
one hundred ~nd ei~hty-two (18~) days, consecutive, or otherwise, of each year
during which said sign may be operated, the expression "South San Francisco", and
some other brief expression designed to advertise South San Francisco, which ex-
pression shall be selected by the lessor, in one or two lines of letters extending
for the greater part of the length of the sign. The name "South San ~rancisco"
shall b e displayed in a single illuminated flash and such other brief expression,
herein provided for, shall be displayed in another illuminated flash. The
letters or characters to be displayed shall be equal in size to the illuminated
letters which shall be used for ~ther s~dvert~ing purposes on such sign at night
and the illumination of such letters shall be equal in intensity to the illumination
of such other letters.
This lease shall become void in the event of the failure of said lessee
to strictly comply v~th the provisions of this paragraph, except as hereinafter
e~pressly provided.
Paragraph 6 of said lease shall, as amended, read as follows:
6. ~ring one-seventh (l/V) of the dark portion of the remaining part of
es~ch ~ear during which said si~ may be operated, said lessee will display for said
lessor in letters illuminated by electricity, such matter in langua~:~e as may be re-
quested by said lessor from time to time, in one line of letters extending for the
entire length of said sign during the continuance of this lease, which letters shall
conform with the provisions contained in paragraph 5 hereof with re[spect to size and
intensity of illumination.
Paragraph V of sai~lease shall, as amended, read as follows:
V. The advertising service herein contemplated to be rendered by said lessee
to ss. id lessor shall extend through one-seventh (l/V) of the dark portion of each
night of said term, but at such intervals as are consistent with the operation of
said sign in the interest of the patrons of s~id lessee, it being understood that

WHEREAS, said G. H. Thomson has assigned said lease to South S~n Francisco

tion of each night. Said lessee shall be entitled to written notice five (5) days
in advance of co~encing the display of any m. atter which said lessor shall request
said lessee to display under the terms of this lease.
A new paragraph shall be added to said lease which shall read as follows:
Said lessor shall not let any advertising privilege upon said sign for any
con~odity of the class or character of any co~'.~modity for which said lessee may at
any time be in the procees of displa~ing advertising.
The mayor of said city and the City Clerk are hereby authorized and directed
in the n~nue of said City of South San Francisco and under its corporate seal, to
execute an agreement for the purpose of amending said lease in accordance with the
provisions of this resolution.

I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was regularly introduced and
adopted by the City Council of the City of South San ~Tancisco this 18th day of
