RESOLUTION NO. 1632
WHEREAS the LegislatUre of the State of California has inau~urated a study of railroad
grade separations,' including the possible cost thereof and oossible contributions by the State of
California thereto, with participation by other local a~encies; and
~EHEAS, among other things, it has been proposed that the Southern Pacific Eailroad
crossing at San Bruno and San Mateo Avenues be eliminated by the construction of an overhead crossing
or underpass together with traffic interchanEe facilities for cross streets; and
WHEHFAS such a structure, so located, would cause great confusion and would be ex-
tremely costly because of damages to valuable and adjacent business and residential properties; and
%~EREAS the ultimate ~eed for such crossing and its ultimate usefulness and value
cannot be properly determined prior to the completion of Junipero Serra Boulevard to itsjunctionwith
E1 Camino Real contiguous to E1 Camino Real at Millbrae or such other point as may be selected by
reason of the unquestionable effect of Such extension of said Junipero Serra Boulevard in reducing
northbound traffic through and over said proposed crossing; and
~ERKAS, without the development of said proposed crossing, the diversion of south
bound traffic at South San Francisco and routed via Linden, Herman and Huntington Avenues in South
San Francisco and San Bruno along the westerly side of the Southern Pacific Railroad right of way
would accomplish the same object and would be advantageous to the City of South San Francisco,
NOW, THE~REFORE, resolved by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that
said City Council believes the proposed structures would not be Justifiable at this time and suggests
furthermore to the Interim Committee on Grade Crossing Separations the consideration of the develop-
ment of the San Francisco Municipal Street Car Line No. 40, now abandoned, ~ a possible by-pass for
all of such traffic at vastly lease expense, as a possible alternative to such proposed crossing.
The City Clerk is hereby directed to forthwith transmit a certified copy of this
resolution to Mr. J. A. Hunter, Public Utilities Commission, State of California, and to Senator
Harry L. Parkman and Richard J. Dolw~g, Assemblyman, Sacramento, Calzfornza.
