A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION
OF AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN SAID CITY, SOUTHERN
PACIFIC COMPANY, AND THE COUNTY OF SAN MATEO.
WHEREAS the gradec~ossin~ on Linden Avenue is most hazardous and whereas a
great m~ny people have been killed at said crossing during the past forty years; and
WHEREAS SOUTHERN PACIFIC COMPANY and the COUNTY OF SAN ~ATEO are ready and will-
ing to enter into a contract with the City of South San Francisco for the purpose of
making provision for the installation of automatic crossing gates at said grade cross-
which will greatly protest the public from serious injury and death; and
WHEREAS Southern Pacific Company is willing to pay fifty percent (50%) of the cost
of installing said automati'c crossing gates, and County of San Mateo is willing to pay
twenty-five percent (25%) of said cost, leaving remaining twehty-five percent
thereof;
NOW, THEREFOHE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Fran-
cisco that said city council does find and determine that said crossing gates should
be installed immediately in order to protect the safety and welfare of the citizens
of South San Francisco and other members of the general public. Pursuant to that
determination, said city council does hereby authorize the mayor of said city to exe-
cute a contract between said city on the one hand and the Southern Pacific Company
and the County of San ~teo on the other hand providing for the immediate installation
of said crossing 'gates ~nd the means of making payment of the cost thereof, including
the payment of twenty-five percent (25%) of such cost by said City of South San Fran-
cisco. F~uther, the city clerk of said city is hereby directed to attest to said agree-
ment and to affix thereto the cornorate seal of said city.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that said city clerk send a certified cony of this resolution
to the County of San Mateo, the Southern Pacific Company, and the Public Utilities Com-
mission.
I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was regul .fly intmeduced and
adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco on this 5th day of
October, 1953, by the following vote:
Ayes, Councilmen John Noonan, Adolph Sani, Emilio Cortesi, Joseph Bracco, Telford Smith.
Noes, Councilmen None
