A KESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN
FRANCI~O URGING THAT APP~OPKIATE LEGISLATION BE ENACTED BY
THE LEGISLATt~E OF THE STATE OF CALIFOF~/A SO AS TO PEBMIT
~ USE OF TID~d~D OIL FUNDS FOR SC~OC~S, sTREETS A~D
HIGHWAYS, STO~ DP~IN FACILITIES, AND ~ PUBLIC PURPOSES.
~~ due to the very rapid ~rowth of the State of California in population aurin~ recent years,
there pre~ntly exists a very acute need for additional public school facilities; and
~~ due to the tremendous increase in the number of motor veh/cles in the State of Cal~fornia,
especially. in metropolitan areas, there now exists a ~reat necessity for new and improved street and h/ghway
facilities; and
WwE~S, due to the 'very ex~ensive industrial, business, and resi~ent~al development throu6hout
the.. State of California, a ~reat nee~ for adequate ad~itiom~l storm drain facilities has arisen and, because
of the tremendous cost of such facLltties, the various local govermnental bo~ies are bein~ confronted with a
problem of considerable ms6nitude; and
~ the Legislature of the State of California is considering sources of additional revenue
in order t~ finance the operations of the State of California during the next fiscal year; and
at the present t~me_, there is a fun~ in excess of the sum of S~:w~'~.'~' MILLION DOLLARS
($70,000,000.00), which represents an accumulation of moneys derive~ through the production of oil from
State-owned tidelands, which moneys are, by present legislative enactments, reserve~ for the acquisition
and development of beaches, parks, and recreation facilities; and
~ it reliably appears that additions an~ accumulations will be ma~e to said fund at the rate
of more than T~KLVE MILLION DOLLARS ($12,000,000.00) per year,
NOW, '£-.:s~i~O~E, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of South San Francisco doss
hereby urge the Legislature of the State of California to enact, as soon as possible, appropriate legislation
authorizing the use of the moneys in the aforementioned fund, together with future accumulations therein
and additions thereto, for renovating, modernizing, and enlarging existing school buildings and facilities
and for the acquisition of aaditional school buildings and facilities by purchase and construction and,
also, permitting the use of said moneys for the construction, m~intenance, and improvement of streets, highways,
and storm drain facilities and, further, the use of said moneys for such other public purposes as the State
Legislature shall, in its discretion, direct.
BE IT FG~I's.:H RESOLVED that the City Clerk of said City is hereby directe~ to cause certified
copies of this Resolution to be ~elivered to Honorable Goo~win F. K~, Governor of the State of California,
Honorable Harry L. Park.~,, Senator from the Twenty-first Senatorial District, Honorable Richar~ J. Dolwig,
Assembl2man from the Twenty-six~ Assembly District, the Boar~ of Supervisors of San Mateo County, the
City Councils of each of the cities situated in the County of San Mateo, the League of California Cities,
and the Peninsula Division of the Lea~me of California Cities.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regu/arly introauced and a~opted by the City
Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held this 17th day of January, 1955, by the
following vote:
AYES: COUN~ Andrew Rocca, Richard Gsmlen, Emilio Cortesi, Telford Smith and Francis Lucchio.
