A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO REQUESTING THAT A STATE
FINANCED FOUR YEAR COLLEGE BE ESTABLISHED
IN SAN MATEO COUNTY
WHEREAS, the increasing population in the State of Call, mia will make nec-
essary in the near future, the provision of additional State supported four year
colleges; and
WHEREAS, the State Department of Education has stated that new publicly
supported institutions should be established in areas where the greatest number of
eligible students will exist between now and 1970, and near the population center
of the area to be served.; and
WHEREAS, San Mateo County's rate of population growth has been twice the
rate of growth of the State as a whole from 1950 to 1955, and is expected to continue
at that rate, resulting in an increasing number of high school graduates each year;
and
WHEREAS, there is no four year college in San Mateo County, and all four
year higher education facilities near San Mateo County are now overcrowded
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of South
San Francisco does urge that favorable consideration be given to establishment of
a State finance~ four year college in San Mateo County.
I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was regularly
introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of
South San Francisco at a regular meeting held this 15th day
of April 1957, by the following vote:
AYES, Councilmen G. J. Rozzi, Andrew Rocca, Emilio Cortesi
and Leo J. Ryan
NOES, None
ABSENT Councilman Francis Lucchio
