HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2528-1957RESOLUTION NO. 2528 A RESOLUTION OF 1~ CITY COUNCIL OF THg~ CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO CALLING UPON THE HESII~ENTS TO CELEBRATE UNITED NATIONS DAY WITH APPROPRIATE ACTIVITIES WHEREAS, the United States of America is one of the founders of the United Nation~ and has consistently supported it in its unceasing quest for a du~able peace based upon freedom and Justice, and · HER~AS, the devotion of the people of the United States to the priciples of the United Nation~ Charter is the expression of a faith deeply rooted in American cultural, political, and spiritual convictions, and ~EREAS, the United States considers that further development of the processes of the United Nations will enable it to promote justice under international law with increased effectiveness, and WHEREAS, World opinion in support of international morality, law, and order has helped to ~ake the United Nations a constructive'force for the development 'of a stable, prosperous, and peaceful world, and NBEREAS, the United Nations has been instrtmental in preveuting open conflict between nations by offering its machinery for c~nciliation, negotiations, .and pacific settlement, and WHERF~S, the United Nations, in cooperation with the Specialized Agencies, has been helping to create the basic conditions for peace by encouraging greater production of food, better health, higher standard~ of living, and greater educational opportunities, and WHEREAS, the General Assembly of the United Nations has resolved that October 24, the anniversary of the coming into force of the United Nations Charter, should be dedicated each year to~aking known the purposes, principles, and accomplislments of the United Nations, and WlIERRAS, Dwight D. Eisenhower, President of the United States of America, has proclaimed Thursday, October 24, 1957, as United Nations Day. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of South San Francisco does hereby urge the residents of the City to celebrate United Nations Day by means of comunity programs which will demonstrate their faiths in, and support of, the United Nations and will contribute to a better understanding of its accom- plish~ents and of the hopes that inspired its founders. I hereby certify that'the foregoin~ resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City ~ouncil of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 21st day of October 1957, by the following vote: AYES, Councilmen Andrew Rocca, Leo J. Ryan, Francis Lucchio, ~ilio Cortesi and G. J. Rozzi. NOES, None ABSENT, None ATTEST: Arthur A. Rodondi
