A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH
SAN FRANCISCO OPPOSING REPEAL OF THE "BUY AMERICAN ACT'
WHEREAS, the continued sound growth of California's economy requires the cre-
ation of 250,000 new jobs annually, and
WHEREAS, California's wage standards must be met and maintained for these new
jobs to preserve the State's high level of compensation, and
WHEREAS, substantial investments in land, buildings, tools and equipment
must be attracted and encouraged to create the required jobs, and
WHEREAS, the particular laws of California known as the "BUY A~ERICAN ACT"
enables California industries and businesses to market their products to public agencies
at competitive American prices which maintains adequate wage standards and supports
operations without government subsidies and therefore encourages the required invest-
ments in land, b ui.lding, tools and equipment, and
WHEREAS, repeal of said particular laws would permit an unfair use of said
market by making American industries supplying said public agencies compete with manu-
factured goods supported by foreign government subsidies and low labor costs, (said
costs in some instances being as. low as one-eighth of the hourly wage scale in California
industries).
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San
