3. Public Comments — comments are limited to items on the Special Meeting
Agenda.
Nawied Amin spoke about what he believed to be the best practices for selecting a new City
Manager and City Council.
4. Supervisorial District Mapping.
Mayor Pro Tern Matsumoto reported the updates coming from the most recent Supervisorial
District Mapping meeting. As it stood now, the likelihood of South San Francisco staying whole
seemed minimal as the support was not there. Mayor Pro Tern Matsumoto sought direction from
the other council members on which direction they would like to go.
Councilmember Addiego expressed preference for the Community Unity Map, stating that SSF
could still have a heavy presence in District 1.
Mayor Pro Tern wanted a scenario that at some point would allow SSF an opportunity to run for
the Board of Supervisors.
Councilmember Garbarino asked why Pacifica was opposed to the SSF version 3 map, where
they stayed whole.
Mayor Pro Tern stated Pacifica's preference was not to be in District 5. Mats — they don't want to
be with Dist 5. She also noted how the republicans were not represented anywhere and were now
doing their own maps which happen to align with what SSF would like.
Councilmember Gupta thought the mapping was being done based on economic groups. He
thought this would create problems in terms of shared of interests within and losing leverage, He
also thought it could impact participation levels from the community.
Mayor Pro Tem Matsumoto restated the recommendations would be submitted on September 24
at the meeting held in San Mateo. She was in the process of getting at least 24 people to attend
for whom she would speak on behalf of. Which map(s) would council like to support?
Councilmember Addiego restated his support for the community unity map. The Clean up map
was also a possibility as it maintained the same boundaries.
Consensus was for the Community Unity 3 and Precinct Clean Up maps.
Mayor Pro Tern stated she would direct staff to clearly define the two and provide updates to
Council.
