RESOLUTION OF. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO DESIGNATING MAY 15 THROUGH
MAY 21, 1960,.AS "BLOOD FOR VETERANS WEEK"
RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco, that
WHEREAS, the United Veterans Coordinating Committee of San Mateo County has
called the attention of this City Council to the following: that 2428 pints of blood were
used at the Veterans Administration Hospital at Fort Mlley during 1959 to save the lives
of many of the nearly 5000 veterans hospitalized during that period; that on the basis of
the needs of prior years approximately 2600 pints of blood will be needed by said Hospital
during 1960; that friends, relatives and. other patriotic citizens, friends of all veterans
in need, have been voluntary donors of blood to replace the blood used at said hospital, and
WHEREAS, during 1960 voluntary blood donations are needed more than ever before
because fewer people are concerned about giving blood -- even for veterans, and
WHEREAS, an appeal is being made to citizens to go to the Irwin Memorial Blood
Bank of the San Francisco Medical Society or the Peninsula Blood Bank in Burlingame to
donate blood for the credit of the Veterans Administration Hospital, Fort Riley, during
the week of Ray 15 through May 21, 1960..
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY ORDERED AND DETERMINED that the week from May 15
through May 21, 1960, is hereby designated as "Blood For Veterans Week" throughout the
City of South San Francisco, during which week the citizens of the City of South San
Francisco are urged to donate blood through the Peninsula Blood Bank, 1791 E1Camino
Real, Burlingame, California, or Irwin Memorial Blood Bank, 50 Masonic Avenue, San Fran-
cisco, California, for the account of the veteran patients of the Veterans Administration
Hospital, and thereby become "Blood Brothe~' or "Blood Sister' of a veteran.
I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was regularly
introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco
at a regular meeting held this 16th day of Ray, 1960, by the following vote:
