HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 1919-08-11274 Regularly AdJoumned Meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of South San ~rancisco,held, Monday, August,Il,1919. This meeting was called to order at 8' 0 clock p.m.,by G.W. Holston "President of the Board" Rollcall Roll call found the following Trustees present,to-wit: · .A. Cunningham, A.J. Eschelbach,and G.W. Holston. Absent Trustees Healy and Kelley. ~h~ minutes of the Previous meeting were rsad and upon motion of Trustee C~ningham seconded Trustee Esohelbach and ~egularly carried were approved as read. An!applioation to make alterations and repairs to the Bianchi building on lot 18 Block 140 was received from A. RaapadorX. Moved by Trustee Eschelbach seconded by Trustee Cunningham that the permit be granted. Motion carried A communication was received from the Chamber of Commerce of South San ~rancisco and also one from the Manufacturers association asking the Board of Trustees to grade a portion of the ci~d~ center site for a play gro~md under the ausplcies of the Y.M.C.A. N~wed by Trustee Cunningham. seconded by Trustee Eschelbach that the Board of Trustees co-oper ate in the movement as far as their finances will permit. Motion carried A communication was received from the Unite&Railroads Company of San ~rancisco ,in answer to a protest of the City Clerk against the running of flat wheels cars in South San Francisco Mr Von Puhl"~he President of the Company "assured the Board of Trustees that he would issue against running such cars. The communication was ordered placed on file. This being the date set for the reception of bids for the improvment of Swift Avenue ,it was mov~ by ~rustee Eschelbach seconded by Trustee Cunningham that the bids for the .improvment of Swift Avenue be opened. Motion carried The foS!owing bids were then o~ened and read. Raisch Improvment Company Grading ninety five (95~ cents per cubic yard., Paving 0ents per Sq. foot. and for the construction of corrugated iron culverts per lineal foot. The ~ay Improvment CompanyGrading Ninety four~A~ ~en~s per Cubic yard Paving Twenty five and seven tenths ~EB.?) cents per Sq. foot. and construction of corrugatediron culverts Two and Ag/l~ Dollars per lineal foot. Blanchard Crocker and Howell Grading Eighty five (85) cents per Cubic yard., Paving Twenty four (24} Cents per Sq. foot. and construction of Culverts Three (3) Dollars per lineal foot. The following resolution was then introduced by Trustee Esohelbach. Resolution of Award No. 36 Whereas the Board of Trustees of the City of South San ~raneisco did, in open session, on the llth. day of August,1919,publicly open,examine and declare all sealed proposals or bids for doing the following work in said City,to-wit: That Swift Avenue,from a line drawn at right .!.~}~ to the center line of said Swift Avenue at a point three thousand seven hundred ninety(~,?9$} f~easterly along the~- ~enter line of Swift Avenue from the intersection of the center line o~ Grand Avenue with the center line o f Swift Avenue,to the easterly termination of said Swift Avenue, be improved as follows: By grading said swift avenue to official line and grade for the full lenght and for the width of thirty three(33} feet; By constructing therein for the full lenght hereinbefore mentioned an asphaltic concret payment eighteen (18) feet wide,consisting of an asphaltic concret wearing surface one and one half ~11~2 ~ inches in thickness laid on a cement concrete base six (6~ inches in thickness; by constructing therein four (A~ circular corrugated iron culverts,each having a diameter of eight- een ~18~ inches, at the places shown upon the plans hereinafter eSn~oned for the construction of said culverts. All work herein provided for shall be done to official grade and in accordance with the special plans and specifications for said work,which plans and specifications are entitled "Plans and Bpecifications for the construction of imorovment work on Swift Avenue,in the City ~eS~ San Francisco.County of San Marco,State of California,which avenue is fully shown upon s hereto attached, which are made a part hereof ", which plans an~.specifications were heretofore adopted by s~id BoSrd of ~ue~ees on the 23rd da~ of Ju~e.1919,and are now on ~ile i~ t~ office of ~he C~ty ~lerK,%o wnxcni=~,~us and specifications rexerence is hereby made xor a xur~ner aes- cription of said work and for the location and extent of the work to be done hereunder and for a particular description of the boundaries of the district herein mentioned. Any duplication in %ny of the work hereinbefore described shall be ignored. There is excepted however,from the above mentioned work any and all such work as has already been done to official grade. Saving, excepting and excluding from said district all streets, avenues,alleys ,lanes,courts. and places included and contained. Notice is hereby given that serial bonds to represent unpaid assessments,and bear interest at the rate of seven (?1 per cent per annum will be issued hereunder in the manner specified in the "Improvment bond Act of 191~",and the amendments thereto,the last installment of which bondsshall mature nine (9) years from the second day of July next succeeding nine 191 months fro~ their date Except as hereinbefore provided,all of the herein propos ed work shall be done in pursuance of an act of the Legislature of the State of California designated as "The Improvment Act of 1911", approved April 2~,lgl~,and amendments thereto. Reference is hereby made to Resolution of Intention NO. 36 of said Board of Trustees declaring its intention to order said work to be ~one,for further particulars,which ~esolution of Intention is on file in the office of the City Clerk. And thereafter on the llth. day of August,19!9,awarded the contract to the lowest responsible bid- der,to-wit: Raisch Improvment Company a corporation organized and existing under the laws of the State 0f California ,at the prices mamed in its bid, to-wit: Grading ninety five (951 cents per cubic yard; asphaltic concrete pavement Twenty one (211 cents per square foot ,Corrugated iron culverts Three (3~ Dollars per lineal feet. The City Clerk is hereby ~irected to post notice~'~'of this award conspicously for five (5) dais on or near the $ouncil ~hamber Door of this Board and also to publish this notice by two 12~ insertiom in "The Enterprise" a weeEly newspaper printed and published in said City and hereby designated for that purpose by said Board of Trustees. I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the Board of Trustees of the ~City of South San ~rancisco this 11 th. ~a$ of Augugt 1919,by the ~ollowing vote: AyesTrustees ~.A.
