The meeting was called to order st 8 O'clock P M.,by G.W.Holston, President of the Board
Roll Call
Roll call found all Trustees present, to~wit;-
F.A.Cunningham, A.J.Eschelbach, L.G.Hardy Jr., E'Scampini, and G.W.Holston.
The minutes of the previous meeting Were read, corrected by leaving out men$ion of the
meeting of the Beard of Equalization, and upon motion of Trustee Cunningham, seconded by Trustee
Eschelbach, approved.
Two communications were received from Carman R.Runyon, representing some of the street
bondholders of the Los Ceritos Tract,one stating that he and a Mr Stevens intended coming before
the Board of Trustees at the next meeting,and the other that they had changed their minds on acco~
of importent business matters in San Diego, Accepted e. nd filed.
The New Amsterdam Casualty Company sent their consent in writing 'to the Larsen-Sampson C¢
being granted an extension Of 60 days in which to complete their contract to build the City Hall.
ACcePted and filed.
A petition was received from residents of the High School Park District, asking for a
light at the corner of Walnut and Lux Ave and one at thecorner of Pine Terrace and Parkway.
Referred to the street committee.
John M Costa, street sweeper,sent his resignation to the Board, stating that the pay he
w~s receiving from the city was not in keeping with that paid by others, end that he could not
afford to work for less than he could make elsewhere. ~loved by Trustee Cunningh~m seconded by Tru~
Hardy that the matter be laid over temporarily. Carried.
Communications were received from P.Baratteri and Wm. D . Casey asking for the position o~
street,sweeper in case of a vacancy. Accepted and filed.
In this connection it was decided to ask for bids for the entire street sweeping contract
'for all the streets of the city , and the city attorney instructed to prepare specifications ~nd
~greements and advertise for bids for the work.
The Friesley Aircraft Corporation sent notice that Mr. Friesley was in the country on
business 6nd was unable to make a return on his assesssbl~ property at the time of writing ,but w(
attend to it on his return. Accepted and filed.
The Pac. Tel & Tel. Co wrote in, reply to the city's request for the use or, their poles fo~
fire alarm purposes, stating they understood the use of the poles~ not now desired. AccePted
and filed. '
With referance to the moving of the fire house the Telephone company stated that they wou~
on hand Monday Aug the 16th to attend to the wire cutting , etc.
Under date of Aug. the ~th the Pac. Tel & Tel Co. stated that it would be necessary 'for t~
to know exactly what poles the city wished to contact with. Accepted and filed.
City Surveyor Geo. A Kneese sent in ~ check for $88.40, collected fromthe contractors on
Swift Ave. contract, stating it was money paid out by the city for advertising. Ordered turned into
the general fund.
Deputy Marshal B.H.Truax wrote a communication to the Board stating that Marshal Conrad
had requested him toturn in his resignation and asked the Board if this was right without charges
having been filed against him. After considerable discussion it was moved by Trustee Cunningham an~
seconded by Trustee $campini that Deputy Marshal Truax continue in his position,but under the dire
supervision of Marshal Conrad, to whom he is required to make regular reports. Carried.
l~s Carrie Winterhalter then addressed the Board, requesting its co-op)ration with the
Board of school Trustees in the matter of retaining the present trained school nurse, Miss Cora ~
Rackel. There being but one member of the school Board present Trustee Cunningham moved that the
Board of school Trustees be invited to attend a meeting on Thursday evening in this hall to furthe~
didcusS the matter. The motion was seconded by ~rustee EsChelbach and carried. The city Clerk w~
instructed to send notice to this effect to.the school Board.
The city engineer sent ~ third estimate of the amount due C'B.Cowden on his contract t¢
build the sewer system ~ast of the Sah Bruno Road, amounting to $6504,96. The total estimate of t~
work to date is ~27,094.68. 2~ of this retained, or ~6773.67, $4000 paid on the first estimate,
~9816.0B on the second, with the third estimate of~6~04..96 recommended,make the total of $27,09~.68
Accordingly Trustee Hardy introduced the following resolution;-
Resolved by the Board of Trustees of the city of South San Francisco, that the. sum of si~
thousanh five hundred four dollars($6~0~.96) and ninety six cents be paid to C.B.Cowden under the 1
of his contract with said city of South San Francisco, for t~e construction of a sewer syStem,e~st
'of the San Bruno Road,being estimate ~3.
I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by t~
Board of Trustees of the City of South San Francisco, this 16th day of Aug. 1920, by the following

In comnection with the new sewer system City Engineer Eneese addressed the Oo~rd, advising
a S00ft redwood trestle was necessary to carry the sewer pipe ~ine and support the same from the
direction of the Pacific Car & Eguipment Co. to the Enterprise Foundry. He was instructed to proce
with the work.
City Marshal Conrad suggested that an ordinance beintroduced compelling rooming or lodgin
hoUses and hotels ~o keep and maintain a register of occupants. The City attorney was requested
to look up the state law covering the subject before framing the ordinance.
Clerk McSweeney asked the sanction of the'Board for a cut of the New city Hall, to be use
for letter heads or other City peper. Granted.
The 'following demands against the city were then presented for payment, having been approv
by the finance committee;-
