Regularly adjourned meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of South San Francisco
held Thursday Aug. the 19th., 1920 at 310 linden Ave.
The meeting was called to order at 8.i5 P.M.by G.W.Holston, President of'the Board.
· Roll Call
Roll call found the following Trustees present,to-wit;-
F.A.Cunningham, A.J.Eschelbach, L.G.Hardy Jr.,H. Scampini, G.W.Eolston.
The reading of the minutes of the previous meeting was dispensed with.
The school Board and members of the welfare Club having been advised by the City Board
of Trustees to appear at this meeting to confer in the matter of retaining Miss 2ora Bi Rackel in
the city as a trained nurse ~or the school department, it was decided to postpone action on the
sslary question until Superintendent of schools Roy Cloud c6uld be seen.
The resignation of street sweeper John M. Costa, having been presented at a previous ;.~,
meeting, and laid over, it was moved by Trustee Hardy'and seconded by Trustee Eschelbach that the
same be accepted,to take effect Kept' lst., Carried.
A communication was received from clerk McSweeney ssking that his salary as deputy ~ax-
collector be raised from ~85 to $140 per month. Taken under advisement.
Clerk 'Mc~weeney was instructed to procure a loose leaf minute book to be used by the
Clerk of the Board of Equalization, and Yegulsrly kept, as required by law.
The subject of the cleaning of the ciSy's streets came up next. The sen$iment of the Board
being in favor of including all the streets of the municipaIity, Trustee Eschelbach introduced the
following resolutioff;-
ReSolved by the Board of Trustees of the City of South Sa~ Faancisco tha~
public interest and convenience require that the following work shall be done in said city, to-wit;-
The cleaning of all paved streets ~~Culverts and catch basins within said
Ail of said street cleaningmork"ghall/be~!done in 'accordance with the specifications there-
fore on file in the office of the City Clerk of said City and which specifications are h~reby
adoptedfor doing said work.
The City Clerk is directed t°~publis~ for two weeks(2) in"~heEnterpri~e", a newspaper of
general circulation printed and published in said City of South San Francisco the follww&mg notibe .~
inviting sealed proposals or bids for street cleaning work in the City of South San Francisco.

OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO.
Sealed proposals will be received by th~ Board o~ Trustees of the Cit~ of Bouth~ Sen ~ran-
cisco until 8 o'c;ock P.M. on Tuesday the ?th day of Sept' 1920,for doing the following work in
the city of South San Francisco, county of San ~ateo, State of California;
cleaning of paved streets, paved alleys,culverts and catch basins withi~ the CSty of South
San Francisco for the period of one year Il).
All said~street cleaning work must be done in strict compliance with the specifications
adopted by ssid Board of Trustees on the 19th day of ~gust 1920,and now on file in the office of
the city Clerk. The successful bidder shall within five ~) days after the sward enter into a contract
contract with the City of South San Francisco for the faithful performance of the work to be done
under said award.
The bidder to whom is awarded the contract will be required to execute a bond for the
faithful performance of his work in an amount equalto twenty-five (2§)% per cent of the amount of his
un&srtaking, with'at least two responsible sur~ties in the full amount of the~bid each; and will also
be required before entering upon the work to furnish a good and sufficient bond as reqUired by an
act of the Le,~isleture of the ~t~te of California,approved May the 10th 1919, ~ntitled~"An/AOt
to secure the pay~ent~J.~f~the~claims of persons employed by contractors upon public works, and! the
claims of persons who furnish materiel, supplies, te~ms, implements or machinery used or consumed
by such contractors in the oerformance of such works, and prescribing the duties~of certain public
officers with reference thereto" and will els9 be required to ~xhibit~t~ s~i~v~Board~of Trustees a
policy of insurance showing that said bidder ms insured sgainst loss through accident or negligence·
in such s way as to satisfactorily protect said City of South San Frsncisco, under the provisions
of the "Workman's Co~pensation Insurance and s~fety Act of the ~tate of California".
The contract must be entered into in compliance with and subject to the conditions imposed
~by section 6~&c of the Penal Code of ~he State of oalifornia.
Sealed proposals or bids will be delivered to the City Clerk on or before 8'o'clockP.M. on Monday,
?th day of Sept' 1920.
All sealed proposals or bids will be ~pen~d by said Board of Trustees in Public.session on
Monday, the ?th day o~Eeptemb~r, 1920, at 8;co ~clock P.M. in the council chamber of s~id Board.
The Board of Trustees hereby reserves the right to reject any and all bids.
