Re~ul~r meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of South San Francisco
held Monday, De~ember ~0th., 1920, at the City Nall.
The meeting was called to order at 8 O'clock p.m. by Trustee Holston, president of 'the
Board.
Roll Call.
Eoll call found all Trustees present, to-wit:-F.A.Cunninghem, A.J.Eschelbach, L.G.Hardy Jr.
H. Scampini and G.W.Holston.
The minutes of the previous mseting were read and upon motion of Trustee Cunningham
seconded by Trustee Eschelbech and re~lerly carried were approved.
A communication was received from the Chamber of Com~erce calling the Board's ettention to
~he poor condition of the streets at S~n Bruno Hoad and *~il]er avenue, ~an Bruno Road end Celifornia
avenue and the Westerly end of Grand ave. The U~erk was instructed to write the Spring Valley Water
Compeny calling the attention of ~.B.Lawrence to the condition of the street over the company's
pipe line at ~an Bruno and Miller avenue.
The Clerk was also instmUcted to communicate with the So. ~lsn Francisco Weter Co.,
notifying them that Pine evenue between San Bruno Road smd Division street hsd been }eft in bad
condition by their w0rk~en when repairing the water main.
The Chamber of commerce communication stated that m~ny cattle were running loose throu!~out
the City ?resident Holston explained to ~
. ,.r.H.E.Smith, ~ecretary of the Chamber of Commerce,
who was present, tha~ the City at the present time was virtually without a loundman for the reason that
that the regular po~ndman was working at one of the local industries. He stated further that the
Board would appoint a ~oundm~n if a ]~rson could be found who would t~ke th~ position.
~dw~rd Floyd, proI~rietor of the Say Poin~ Restaurant pgtitioned the Board for a license
to sell soft drinks. Laid over till after January 6th 1921, when the soft d~ink ordinance will
be in effect.
Joseph Pacheco ~sked permi~s~on of the ~oard to reconstruct ~ barn on his premises, cot
Grand avenue and Sen Bruno hoad. Laid over pending inspection of the premises.
A communication was received from Paul Perussina asking permission to construct a conqrete
floor in the building at #SOZ Grand Zvenue. Gramted.
A communication from Frank V. Cornish, Chairman City ~%tonney's Asso. of Northern 'Celifornia
urging the City %o join with ~ther C~lifornia municipalities in sharing the expenss of representation
bofore the R&ilroad Commission was received and laid over till the next meeting of the Board.
A written request was received from the Pacific ~as end Electric Company, for permission
to sst poles on Baden Avenue, according to blue prints a~tached, for the purpose of supplying
J.~eds~hini with service. L~oved bY Trustee Cunningham seconded by Trustee Eschelbach that the matter
be referred to the street committee. Carried.
The Eureka ~ire HoSe Departmet,' Los Angeles, wrote L{ayor Holston stating they would send
their representa.tive to South San Frencisco to submit bids whenever the City was ready to purchase
hose. Accepted and filed.
Charles Grant made application for the janitor work of the ~ity ii~ll, if the same could be
hsd by contract. Filed.
A communication was received from Cotton ~nd bo. landscape architects, offering to submit
plans otc for the development of the Uity Hall grounds. L~ Homace Cotton appeared in person for his
company. After considerable discussion the subject was laid over till a future meeting of the Board
~ petition was received from S.disnella of the ~olden EagleHotel suggesting that the Board
plaice a fire alerm box at the corner of Pine avenue and ,qan Bruno Ro~d. The Board decided that
the !ocation of the pNesent box is the best for that district.
Lichter ~nd Co. Carnival o~erators offered ~ ~

dollars each for any additional concessions t. hey might secure, for the celebration to be held on
New ~ea~ eve The offer was accepted and the City attorney instructed to draw up a resolution
to this effect.at the next meeting. The City Clerk was instructed to communicete with the ~rnival
Company stating theft the Board of Trustees would issue a license to then for the privile~re~ providing
that not less than fifty concessions are taken ~nd not more than fifteen front-feet dsed 'for each
concession,except at the rate of three dollars per front foot for any additional frontage.
A committee of the American Legion ~sked the Board for the use of the Judge's Chambers
two evenings a month for the Woman's !uxiliary of the ;~erican Legion. ~oved by Trustee
seconded by Trustee ~unningham that the request be ~ranted, and that no further p~r~its be
granted for the 'use of the City aall roo~s. Carried.

Upon motion of Trustee Cunningham seconded by Trustee Eschelbach the bills were ordered
paid, having been approved by the Finance committee, Carried.
~loved by Trustee Hardy that the electric sign belonging to the city near the So. P~cific
depot be taken down. The motion was seconded by Trustee ~campini and Regularly carried.
Chas. ~.Schurk was employed to do the work. It appears the iron frame of the sign is
showing evidence of decay sndis more or less d~.~ngerous in this condition.
Upon motion of Trustee Eschelbach seconded by Trustee',Cunningha~: the Board adjourned
meet a~in ~onday December 2?th., 1920, at 8 o'clock ~.M.'
