Regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of South San Francisco held Monday,April 4th,
1921, at the City Hall. Jr,
In the absence of President G.W.Holston Trustee L.G.Eardy,acted as President Pro Tem and
called the meeting to order at eight o'clock p,m.
ROLL CALL
Roll call found the following Trustees present, to-wit:-
F.A.CUnningham,A.J.Eschelbach, H.Scampini, L,G.Eardy Jr.
Absent, Trustees. G.W,Nolston.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and upon ~otion of Trustee Eschelbach second
by Trustee Cunningham and regularly carried were approved.
Representative Brown of the Gamewell Fire Alarm Telegraph Company appeared before the Boar
and asked for aeeeptance of the work of installing the new system, stating that his company had
completed their contract. Inspector 6churk was asked if the new fire alar~ssstem was completed
aecerding te contract and acceptable to the city. Replying that it was he was instructed to make a
written report to that~effect,.which he complied with.
The Pacific Gas & Electric Co. sent a refund excess payment of $13.52 on aeoount of temper,
service during the New Year's Carnival.Accepted.
A petition was received from A.Welte ef the Americen Legion dance committee asking
permission te held a dance ~aturday evening April 9th,'Ynext. Granted.
The empleyment committee of Bernard MoCaffrey Pest ~85, Americas Legien,wrote the Board
concerning appointmentsto municipal positions, regreti~g--, that none had been made from the local
pest of the Legion in recent appointments and asking that,ex-service men be given the consideration
due them in future appointments of any kind. Accepted amd filed.
Mr. Andrew Hynding of the Western Meat Co.sent a communication to the Beard stating his
company had on h~nd for sale 4~ feet of cotton hose at 80~ per feot and a dozen Patent Fire Nozzle
at $14.00 each. ~ ~ ~onsiderabl~ less than the market price. Referred to the purchasing committee.
A communication was received from the Chamber cf Commerce concerning the proposition of
seeuring another night watchman to patrol~he residential section of the city. At their last meeting
motion was made carried that a canvass be made of the residential section with a elew to securing
subscribers to pay . or help p~ the salary of a proposed additional night watchman. Accepted and f
The Junior Chamber of Commerce replied to the Board's letter of March 22nd regarding their
assistance in suppressing false fire-alarm signals, and stated that they would do all in their pewe:
to abate this nuisamee.Accepted with the thanks of the Beard. eve
A communication was received from E,C.Peck, Chairmam of the New Year's'Carnival Committee,
enclosing a statement of receipts and expenditures at the Fraternal Hall. and a check for $100.46,
amount cleared above expenses. Accepted and the check Ordered turned into the general fund, and the
clerk instructed to write a letter of thanks from the Board of TrusteeS.
The Associated Oil company replied to the clerk's letter concerning the less of cheek ~560~
dated December 21st 192~. for oil received from them for the city hall in Nevember. The company
stated they made search of their premises for the missing check but failed te locate, The clerk
was instructed to issue a duplicate for the ameunt¥ $73.69, and stop payment of check #5608 at the
Bamk of Seuth Sam Francisco and the City Treasurer's office.
T.McM~nus made application for appointment to the position of special policeman, er
night watchman, without compensation. Mr. McManus being present,was asked tc procure signatures
of residents who were willing to subscribe toward the salary of an additional night watchman.
E~wsrd Ringue, 552 Baden avenue made appXication for a soft drink license for his groeery
store,550 Baden avenue. Granted.
The reports of City officersMcGovern. Truax,Cun~ingham. Conrad and McSweeney were next read
City Recorder Cmuningham's report showed collections in his office for the month of ~roh
to the amount of $85.00. ghe City Clerk's report showed the following balances:- General fund~6126.,
Sinking fund for sewers,$1974.48. 1919 Bonds,$75~9.25, Fact. District sewer fumd, $5790.39,
Library fund,~995.86,Fire Alarm Telegraph fund,$10054.34, Street Bends. Series "A"$190.57. Ser."B"$,
Series "C"~112,84, Ser 'D" $126.22,, Ser. "E" $16.58, Ser."F" ~105.17, Ser. 'G" ~543.52. Total balan.
in all funds ~33619.32.
Moved by ~rustee Cu~inghsm seconded by Trustee Scampini that the reports be accepted and
filed. Carried.
Ordinance ~109, Entitled "An erdinance of the City of South ~an ~'rancisco l~rohibiting The
Giving of False Fire-Alarm Signals", which Ordinance was introduced on the 21st day of March, 1921,
had its second reading and was adopted as an Ordinance of the City'of South San Francisco, by the
following vote;-
