The meeting was called to order at 7.50 p.m. by Trustee G.W.Holston, President of the Board. Roll Ca'll. Roll call found the following Trustees present, tO-wit;- F,A.Ounningham, A,J.Esche:lbaoh,H.Scampi~i, G.W.Holston. .' .,., Absent, Trustee L.G.Hardy. Trustee Hardy appeared after roll call. The minutes of the previous were read and upon motion of Trustee Cunningham seconded by Trustee Hardy and regularly carried were approved as read. A cummunication was received from the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph company, in answer to the City's letter inviting ~them to replace their wooden poles by ornamental ones and inquiring as to the location of the Electroliers about to be installed· Communication ordered filed. A communication was received from Chas. N. Black, President of the' Market Street Railway Company, in answer to the City's letter requesting his company to replace their wooden poles by installing ornamental ones. Mr, Black stated that the matter will be investigated. Communication ord- ered filed. A communication was received from Nm. M.Abbott, General Counsel of the Market' Street Railway Company, in answer to the 0ity's letter inquiring if any mistake had been made in the amount due the city on its franchises held by the railway company. Mr Abbott stated that a mistake had been made bY the Accounting Department of his company,sand enclosed a corrected statement showing the amount du. the'city On two franchises under Ordinances 's 66 and 85 to be $?25.75 instead of $§63.90,,as prev- iously'reported. On motion regularly carried the clerk was instructBd to reply accepting the statement for the city. Night policeman Henry McGraw reported to the Board in writing that Gulio Lombardi, proprietor of the Norman~Hotel Soft Drink Parlor was violating provisions of the Soft Drink Ordinance by keeping open after hours and asked the Board to take action in the case. The clerk was instructed to write Mr. Zombardi a letter, citing him to appear before the Board at the next meeting,Monday, August 218~,1922, and show cause why his soft drink license should not be revoked. An application for a soft drink licensewas received from Crosby & Brown for the Tan Foran Hotel.Thelaid over application of Roach and Mahoney for a license for a building on Tan ~oran Road near the Tan Eoran Hotel was taken up at the same time and both granted by the following Vote;- Ayes, Trustees; F.A.Cunningham. A.J,Eschelbach, ~'G.Hardy Jr,,H.Scampini, G.W.Holston. Noes, Trustees. None. Absent, Trustees, None. W.J.Martin appearedbefore the BOard in reference to a new highway to connect Tan Foran and San Bruno with the City of South San Francisco bY a more direct route. After discussion it was decided to ask the support and,co-operation of th~'v~SoUth:SanFrancisco ~and & ImProvement Company,the Tan Foran Race"Track authorities.&the Board of Supervisors of San MateO'County in bringingaboutv, the~construct~on of a new road capable of'accommodating the traffic between the three communities. The clerk was i~structed to write to the parties mentioned and ask that they give the project their support and co- operation. On suggestion of City Engineer Kneese S~pervisor Thomas Hickey will be asked in advance of the Supervisors' meeting to lend his aid in getting action by the Board of Supervisors on the proposed improvement work. The reports of the City Marshal, City Recorder, Electrical Inspector, ~ire Shier, Health Officer and City Clerk were next read. The repgrt of the City Recorder showed collections of fines and fees in criminal and civil cases amounting to $27.00, while the report of the Clerk showed the following balances in the various funds;- ' General fund, $15,984.98, Zibrsry fund.$1,50§.l~, Si~king fund~for sewers,i $$,252.77, Factory DisSrict sewer fund,$~lg.82, "1919 Bond@" $?,395.58' Anti-~ubercular fund,SS32.16, Street Funds Ser A , $65.68, Ser. On motion of Trustee Cunningham seconded by Trustee Eschelbach and regularly carried the reports were accepted'as read. This being the date set for the opening of bids on construction work under propositions 46 and 48, Trustee Scampini moved that the bids be opened. The motion was seconded by Trustee Hardy and regularly carried. Twenty-two and one-fourth (225) cents per square foot, combined concrete curb and gutter Ninety (90) cents per lineal foot, concrete gutter Twenty (20) ce~ts per lineal foot; concrete sidewalk,Fifteen (lB) cents per square foot. Lateral sewers One and 18/100 Dollars (1.18) per ~ineal foot. ~ The City Clerk is hereby directed to post notice of this award conspicuously for Five(B) days on ar near the ~ouncil Chamber door of this Board and also to publish this notice by Two (2) insertions in"~he Enterprise", a weekly newspaper printed and published in said city and hereby designated for that purpose by said Board of Trustees, I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the Board of Trustees of the City of South San Francisco this 7th,day of August, 1922, by the following vote;- Ayes, Trustees, F.A,~umuingham,A:J,Eschelbach, Z.G.Hardy Jr., E. The following resolution was introduced by Trustee Scampini; Whereas the Board of Trustees of the City of South San Francisco. did, in open session, on the ?th day of August, 1922, publicly open, examine and declare all sealed proposals or bids for doing the following work in said city,to-wit; Section A. That the following streets and avenues in said city be improved by grading the same to the official line and grade for the full width thereof and upon the portions thereof herein- after and in this section designated as follows, to-wit; School street from the southerly line of Olive Avenue to the southerly terminus of s School Street; Olive Avenue from thesoutherly line of Armour Avenue to the northwesterly terminus of Olive Avenue;excepting therefrom, however, any ~d all such grading which has already been done on the existing round corner or curb return at the southeast corner of 0lies Avenue and Armour Avenue; Section B. A communication was received from the Pacific Telephone A~d Telegraph Company asking the location the city desired to make pole removals. The clerk was instructed t6 reply and state that the street committee would go over the ground with the company,s representative as soon as one Z~pears. The Pacific Coast Jockey' Club replied to the city's letter inviting them to co-ooerate in the movement to construct a highway between San Bruno, Tan Foran and South'San Francisco, asking'in what way they could give support and co-operation in bringing about the proposed improVement, As Harold Spreckles, Secretary of the Club had been in town during the week and had been in conference with the City Officials a reply was nQt deemed necessary. A check was received from ~.A.Cunningham for $1~.00 from the sale of the old Band Stand, as per agreement with the Board of Trustees at a previous meeting. A communication and voucher were received from the Market Street Railway Company. The voucher was for the sum of $?~§,?~ being the percentage of gross receipt of the South San Francisco Railroad and Power Company for the year ending April 21st, 1922, according to franchises held by the Company. . Angelo Scampini, secretary of the Merchants' Association appeared before the Board and asked the privilege if introducing a resolution endorsing a project to have a new ba~k instituted in the City of South San Francisco. Fire Chief Truax asked that a vote of thanks be extended to Fire Chief Murphy of San Francisco for his aid in extinguishing a serious fire at the Western Pipe and steel works the previous Sunday.
