OF TRUSTEES OF THE CITY OF SOUTH
SAN FRANCISCO,HELD MONDAY,
FEBRUARY llTH,1924.
Pursuant to adjournment the Board of Trustees of the city of South San Francisco met in
regular adjourned session in the City Hall on Monday, the llth day of February,1924.
The meeting was called to order at V;Z0 o'clock p.m. by Trustee ~.W.Holston, President of
the Board of Trustees.
There were present the following Trustees,F.A.Cunningham, J.~.Pitt, H.Scamoini and G.W.Hol~
Absent, Trustees, A.J.Eschelb~ch.
The minutes of the orevious meeting were read, ~nd u~on motion by Trustee Scampini, second~
by Trustee Pitt and regularly carried were a~proved as read.
J.W.Daly, #200 Prentiss Street appeared before the board with reference to the breaking o~
an elec~rolier lamo Dole in front of the Bank Building. He ~ss advised by the Bosrd that a p~ymen~
of $2~ down and $1~ per month would be scceptable in ~yment of the damages, the total to be paid
stated $100. This being agreeable ~£~ was .deposited with the clerk as forst payment.
Trustee Scampini stated that a light pole in the vicinity of ~he Di Vita residence on Gran~
should be moved to a more suitable loc~tion. The Board instructed ~he clerk to request ~he gas & e[
company to ~ake the change.
The City Attorney wss instructed to take steps to enforce collection from Mrs Cribbons for the
breaking of an electrolier lsmp oole on Linden Avenue and Grand Avenue,the same having been broken
her machine in 192Z.
RESOLUTION ADOPTING PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS.

Whereas public interest and convenience require that the work and improvement herein-
after described should be done; and
Whereas, in the opinion of the Board of Trustees of the City of South San Francisco,
said contemplated work and improvement is, and is hereby declaTed to be of more than local or
ordinary public benefit;
Now, therefore, resolved by the Board of Trustees of the City of South San Francisco
that it is the intention of said board to order the following ~ork and improvement to be done
in said city, to-wit:
SECTION A:
That the official grades of the following alleys, viz:
That portion of the alley between Grand Avenue and Baden Avenue and included between
the westerly line of Maple Avenue and the easterly line of Spruce Avenue; that portion of the
.alley between Commercial Avenue and Railroad Avenue included between the westerly line of ~aple
Avenue and the easterly line of Magnolia Avenue, but excluding the intersection thereof with
Spruce Avenue; be modified and changed to new grades at which the work hereinafter described
is proposed to be done, as such new grades are shown, designated and described upon the plans,
' profiles and specifications therefor hereinafter referred to, and ~t is hereby expressly ~&t~r-
mined that all the proposed work or improvements to be done upon the alleys in this section
· described shall be done to the new grades as shown upon the plans, profiles and specifications
to which reference is hereby made, and not to the grades hitherto adopted and established, as
shown on said plans, profiles and specifications.
SECTION~B:
That the following alleys in said City of South San Francisco be improved by grading
the same, for the full width thereof and for the portions thereof hereinafter and in this section
designated, and also by constructing therein a cement concrete pavement, five 'inches in thickness,

alley at a point distant 600 feet westerly from the westerly line of ~agnolia Avenue, but ex-
cluding therefrom the intersection thereof with Magnolia Avenue:
That portion of the alley between Grand Avenue and Baden Avenue and included between the
westerly line of Maple Avenue and the easterly line of ~agnolia Avenue, but excluding there-
from the intersection thereof with Spruce Avenue;
That portion of the alley between Grand Avenue and Baden Avenue and included between the
easterly line of Orange Avenue and a line drawn at right angles to the center line of said al-
ley at a point distant 500 feet easterly from the easterly line of Orange Avenue:

That portion of the alley between California Avenue and Lux Avenue and included between the
easterly line of Linden Avenue and the westerly line of.Cypress Avenue;

Also that that portion of the alley between Commercial Avenue and Railroad Avenue and in-
cluded between the westerly line of Linden Avenue and a line drawn at right ~ngles to the center
line of said alley distant 100 feet westerly from the westerly line of Linden Avenue, be improv-
ed by grading the same for a width extending from the southerly line of said portion of said al-
ley to a line drawn parallel and distant 15 feet northerly from said southerly line of said por-
tion of said alley and also by constructing therein a cement concrete pavement, five inches in
thickness, for the ~idth ~s shown upon the plans and specifications hereinafter referred to;
SECTION D:
Also that that portion of Magnolia Avenue lying between the southerly line of Commercial
Avenue and the northerly line of Railroad Avenue, including all intersections, be improved by
grading, for the full width thereof, and by constructing on both sides thereof cement concrete
sidewalks and combination cement concrete curbs and gutters of the dimensions and at the part-
icular locations shown upon the plans a. nd specifications thereinafter referred to, and by
constructing therein from gutter line to gutter line an asphaltic concrete pavement consist-
ing of a cement concrete base four (4) inches in thickness and an asphaltic concrete wearing
surface one and one-half (1 l/S) inches in thickness:
SECTION E:
Also that that portion of Railroad Avenue from the westerly line of Spruce Avenue, produc-
ed southerly,, to the easterly line of ~agnolia Avenue, produced southerly, for a width extend-
ing twenty-two (ZE) feet southerly from the southerly edge of the gutter existing on the north-
erly side of Railroad Avenue, be improved be grading the same and by constructinE therein an
asphaltic concrete pavement consisting of a cement concrete base four(4) inches in thickness
and an asphaltic concrete wearing surface one and one-half(1 l/E) inches in thickness:
SECTION F:
Also that that portion of the termination at Nagnolia Avenue and Railroad Avenue between
the westerly line of Eagnolia Avenue produced southerly, and the easterly line of Magnolia
~Avenue produced southerly, and included between the northerly line of l{allroad Avenue and a
line parallel with and distant at right augles southerly S6 feet from the northerly line of
Railroad Avenue, be improved by grading the Full area and by constructing in the northwest
and northeast corners of said termination cement concrete sidewalks and combination cement
concrete curbs and gutters of the dimensions and at the locations as all are more particularly
shown upon the plans and specifications hereinafter referred to and by constructing in the
roadway area of said termination an asphaltic concrete pavement consisting of a cement concrete
base four (4) inches in thickness and an asphaltic concrete wearing surface one and one-half
'(1 1/£) inches in thickness;
SECTION G:
Also that two red burnt brick catch-basins, capped with cast iron frames and covers, of the
sizes, dimensions and in the particular locations, as all are more fully shown on the plans and
specifications hereinafter mentioned, be constructed in the following alleys, as follows:
One (1) such catch-basin in the alley between Baden Avenue and Commerdial Avenue at a point
~75 feet easterly from the easterly line of Spruce Avenue: said catch-basin shall be connected
to an-existing sewer manhole in said alley with ~£ feet of six (6) inch vitrified salt glazed
ironstone sewer pipe;
One (1) such catch-basin in the alley between Commercial Avenue and Railroad Avenue at a
point 4?5 feet easterly from the easterly line of Orange Avenue: said catch-basin last mention-
ed shall be connected to an e~isting se~er manhole in said alley width S5 feet of six (6) inch
vit~'ified salt glazed ironstone sewer pipe.
The portions of said alley between Commercial Avenue and Railroad Avenue are shown upon
that certain map entitled "Subdivisions of Blocks 98, 99, ll9 & 1~£ South San Francisco, Calif.
Plat No. ~", which map was filed in the office of the County Recorder of the County of San Nateo,
California, Noveme~er 10, 1900, and recorded in ~Iap Book No. 5 at page 4. All other alleys here-
inbefore mentioned are shown upon that certain map entitled "South San Francisc, San Mateo Co.
Calif. Plat No. l", which map was filed in the office of the County Recorder of the County of
San Mateo, California, March 1st, 189E, and recorded in ~ap Book No, ~ at page 5~.
All work herein provided for shall be done in accordance with the special plans, profiles
and specifications for said work and to the official grade shown upon said plans and profiles,
which plans, profiles and specifications are entitled "Plans, profiles and specifications for
theconstruction of improvement work upon a portion of the alley between Grand Avenue and ~iller
Avenue, a portion of the alley between Grand Avenue and Baden Avenue, a portion of the alley
between Baden Avenue and Commercial Avenue, a portion of the al].ey between Commercial Avenue
and Railroad Avenue, a portion of the alley between California Avenue and Lux Avenue and a por-
tion of the alley between Lux Avenue and Miller Avenue, in the City of South San Francisco,
County of San ~ateo, State of California, which alleys are fully shown upon the plans hereto
attached, which plans aremade a part, hereof", ~hich plans, profiles and specifications were
heretofore adopted by said Board of Trustees on the llth day of February, 19~4, and are now on
file in the office of the City Clerk, to which plans, profiles and specifications reference is
hereby made for a full description of said work aud for the location and extent of the work to
be done hereunder and for a particular d~$cri!otion of the boundaries of the district herein

tion of said al!ey and also by constructing therein a cement concrete pavement, five inches in

Also that that portion of Magnolia Avenue lying between the mutherly line of Commercial
Avenue and the northerly line of Railroad Avenue, including all intersections, be improved by
grading, for the full width thereof, and by constructing on both sides thereof cement concrete
sidewalks and combination cement concrete curbs and gutters of the dimensions and at the part-
iculcr locations shown upon the plans ~nd specifications thereinafter referred to, and by
constructing therein from gutter line to gutter line an asphaltic concrete pavement consist-
ing of a cement concrete base four (4) inches in thickness and an asphaltic concrete wearing
surface one and one-half (1 l/g) inches in thickness;
SECTION E:
Also that that portion of Railroad Avenue from the westerly line of Spruce Avenue, produc-
ed southerly,, to the easterly line of Magnolia Avenue, produced southerly, for a width extend-
ing twenty-two (22) feet southerly from the southerly edge of the gutter existing on the north-
erly side of Railroad Avenue, be improved be grading the same and by constructing therein an
asphaltic concrete pavement consisting of a cement concrete base four(4) inches in thickness
and an as~hcltic concrete wecring surface one and one-half(1 1/2) inches in thickness;
SECTION F:
Also that that portion of the termination at Magnoli~ Avenue and Railroad Avenue between

roadway area of said termination an asphaltic concrete p~vement consisting of a cement concrete
base four (4) inches in thickness and an asphaltic concrete wearing surface one and one-half

SECTION G:

One (1) such catch-basin in the alley between Commercial Avenue and Railroad Avenue at a
point 4?5 feet easterly from the easterly line of Orange Avenue; said catch-basin last mention-
ed shall be connected to an e~:isting sewer manhole in said ~lley with 35 feet of six (6) inch
vitz~ified salt glazed ironstone sewer pipe.
The portions of said alley between Commercis.1 Avenue and Railroad Avenue are shown upon
that certain map entitled "Subdivisions of Blocks 98, 99, ll9 & 122 South San Francisco, C~lif.
Plat No. 2", which m~p was filed in the office of the County Recorder of the County of San ~lateo,
California, Novemeher 10, 1900, and recorded in Map Book No. 3 at page 4. All other alleys here-
inbefore mentioned are shown upon that certain ~ap entitled "South San Francisc, San ~iateo ~o.
Calif. Plat No. l", which map was filed in the office of the County Recorder of the County of
San ~lateo, California, ~arch 1st, 1892, and recorded in ~ap Book No, 2 at page 52.
All work herein provided for shall be done in accordance with the special plans, profiles
and specifications for said work and to the official grade shown upon said plans and profiles,
which plans, profiles and specifications are entitled "Plans, profiles and specifications for
theconstruction of improvement work upon a portion of the ~lley between Grand Avenue and Miller
Avenue, a portion of the alley between Grand Avenue and Baden Avenue, a portion of the alley
between Baden Avenue and Commercial Avenue, a portion of the al].ey between Commercial Avenue
and Railroad Avenue, a portion of the alley between California Avenue and Lux Avenue and a por-
tion of the alley .between Lux Avenue and Miller Avenue, in the City of South San Francisco,
County of San Mateo, State of California, which alleys are fully shown upon the plans hereto
attached, which plans aremade a part, hereof", ~hich plans, profiles and specifications were
heretofore adopted by said Board of Trustees on the llth day of February, 1924, and are now on
file in the office of the City Clerk, to which plans, profiles and specifications reference is
hereby made for a full description of said. work and for the location and extent of the work to
be done hereunder and for a particular description of the boundaries of the district herein
mentioned. There is excepted, however,from the above mentioned work any ahd all ~uch work as
has been already done to official grade.
And s~id Board of Trustees does hereby deterr,~ine and declare that said proposed work and
improvement is of more than local or ordinary public benefit and will a±'fect an~ benefit the
lands and district hereinafter described, which said district is hereby declared to be the dis-
trict benefitted by said work and improvement and that therefore the entire costs and expenses
of said. work and improvement shall be and are hereby made chargeable against and shall be assess-
edi~upon'~said lands and district, except as hereinafter expressly provided, which district is with-
ia said City of South San Francisco, County of San Mateo, State of California, and particularly
bounded and described as follows, to-wit:
Beginning at the intersection of the southerly line of the right of way of the Southern
Pacific Company IBsden Branch) with the westerly line of Linden Avenue;
Running thence northwesterly along the said southerly right of way line to a point where
the same is intersected by the southerly extension of the easterly line of Orange Avenue; thence
northeasterly along said southerly extension and continuing along said easterly line of Orange
Avenue to the northerly line of Gr~nd Avenue; thence southeasterly along the northerly line of
Grand Avenue to the easterly line of Locust Avenue~ thence northeasterly a~ong said easterly
line of V, ocust Avenue to the southerly line of Mil~er Avenue; thence south~,~'easterly along said

Linden Avenue to the norther~y line of Miller Avenue; thence northwesterly along said northerly
line of Miller Avenue to the easterly line of Maple Avenue; thence southwesterly along said east-
erly line of Maple Avenue to the southerly line of Baden Avenue; thence southeasterly along ~said

~aving, encepting and excluding from said district all public streets, avenues and alleys,
lanes, courts and places included and contained.
Notice is hereby given that serial bonds to represent unpaid assessments and bear interest
at the rate of seven ~?1 per cent per annum will be issued herunder in the manner specified in
the "Improvement Bond Act of 191~" and the amendments thereto, the last installment of which
bonds shall mature nine 19) years from the ~nd day of July next succeeding ten (10) months from
their date.
"The Enterprise", a weekly newspaper published and circulated in said City of South San
~r~ncisco, is hereby designated as the newspaper in which this resolution of intention shall be
published, and the City Clerk is hereby directed to cause this resolution of intention to be
published by two (E) insertions in the manner and form required by law.
The Superintendent of Streets shall cause tel be conspicuously posted along the line of
said contemplated work or improvement, at not more than Three Hundred IZ00) feet in distance
apart, and along all the open stree~ within said district and in front of all the property
liable to be assessed and not more than Three Hundred (~00) feet in distance apart, but not
less than three I~) in all in each street in said district, notices of the passage of this
resolution of intention, in the manner and form required by the "Improvement Act of 1911"
and the amendments thereto.
Notice is hereby given that on Monday, the ~rd day of March, 19~, at the hour

~r&~ncisco, is hereby designated as the newspaper in which this resolution of intention shall
published, and the City Clerk is hereby directed to cause this resolution of intention to be
published by two (2) insertions in the manner and form required by law.
The Superintendent of Streets shall cause to~ be conspicuously posted along the line of
said contemplated work or improvement, at not more than Three Hundred (ZOO) feet in distance
apart, and along all the open stree~ within said district and in front of all the property
liable to be assessed and not more than Three Hundred (300) feet in distance apart, but not
less than three (3) in all in each street in said district, notices of the passage of this
resolution of intention, in the manner and form required by the "Improvement Act of 1911"
and the amendments thereto.
