REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES 0F THE
CITY 0,F SOUTH SAN FruANCISC0 HELD MONDAY,
MAY 5TH,19BA.
The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of South San Francisco was
held in the City Hall on Monday, May 5th,19£4.
The meeting was called to order at ?'~ '
,~,v o clock p.m. by Trustee H.~.McNellis,
President of the Board of Trustees.
ROLL CALL.
Roll call found all Trustees present, to-wit;
Trustees, Carl Blank, F.A.Onnuingham, A.J.Eschelbach,~.McCaffrey,and H.F.McNellis.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read. There'being no objections they were
ordered to stand approved as read.
An application was received from Bernard McCaffrey Post No 85, American Legion, for
permission to hold a dance in Fraternal Hall Saturday evening May 10th,1924, the same to run until
2 a.m. Granted.
An application for a dance permit was received' from the Avalon Club of South San
Francisco, asking permission, to hold the dance in Fraternal Hall Satuday evening May 24th next, the
same to last until two a.m. *ranted.
An application for a pool room license was received from Frank C.Wallace for the
location ~28 Grand Avenue· Laid over until a future meeting.
Application for permission to build a garage on the easterly 42 feet of lot 16 in
block 12A, and repair the two story fra~e structure on the front of said. lot was received from
Guiseppe Penna. Permission was granted with the proviso that the city building and fire ordinances
be strictly complied with.
A comnunication was received from the South City Aerie of Eagles,~147Z, asking the
Board's permission to run a circus in conjunction with the F.C.Wilkins Arena Circus Co. from May
2?th to May 31st, next. The permission-was granted by the following vote;-
Ayes, Trustees, Carl Blank,F.A.Cunningham,H.McCaffrey,H.F.McNellis.
Noes, Trustees, A.J.Eschelbach.
A communication was received from the South San Francisco Land & Improvement Company
asking the establis~ent of official grades along the ally north of Miller Avenue, to enable the .
company to lay certain 18 in new water mains. Referred to the city engineer.
Request was made by Mrs. Carrie E.Winterhalter for the transfer of ~50 from the Anti-
tuberculosis fund to the California Tuberculosis Association. Afterdiscussi0n ~ Trustee
Cunningham moved that the amount in the fund, $73.01 be turned over to the f~ommunity Chest with the
understanding that ~50 be paid the Calif. Tuberculosis Association. Seconded by Trustee Eschelbach & carz
A petition signed by twenty-four business houses of the city was received, requesting
the board to pass a Sunday closing law making it compulsory to close all business places 2undays exce;
drug stores and a few other exceptions. Referred to-the city attorney for advice.
A communication was received £rom ~he American Committee for Relief of German Children
asking $100 donation by the city. Communication ordered filed for future reference.
A request for permission to construct and operate a first class ~oving Picture House
and asking as to license fee,crc, was received from A.L.Brauns,#1642 East-lAth street, Fruitvale,
Oakland. The clerk w~.s instructed to reply stating no license is necessary, but construction should
be under the building and fire ordinances of the city.
The South San Francisco Land & Improvement Company wrote for permission to grade that
portion of Maple Avenue from Aspen Avenue north to the new Grarr~ar School. Permissi+n granted.
Applications for soft drink licenses were received from Mrs. Andrew Ostrom,T.F.Pattersoz
and D.S.Wright and granted by the following vote,
Ayes, Trustees, Carl Blank,F.A.Cunningham, A.J.Eschelback,H.McCaffrey, H.F.McNellis.
Noes, Trustees, None.
Absent,.Trustees, None.

The Application of Gesas & ~ischer for a soft drink license was denied by the following
vote. Ayes, Trustees, Carl Blank,F.A.Cunningham, A.J.Eschelback, H.McCaffrey, H.F.McNellis.
Noe~, Trustees, None.
Absent, Trustees, None. Attest, Daniel McSweeney, City Clerk.
In the matter of the application of Fred Brown for the appointment of a committee
to investigate his claim for the payment or'damages alleged ~o have been done to his dwelling, the
President of the Board appointed the following committee, to-wit;- Trustees, Cunningham, Blank and
McCaffrey.
RESOLUTION'!..ENDORSING THE PROJECT OF
IMPROVEMENT OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO
HARBOR.
A resolution was introduced by Trustee Cunningham endorsing the project of the improven
of the harbor of ~outh San Francisco by the developement of the same, and requesting that copies be sent
Lloyd ~.Thayer of the South San Francisco Land & Improvement Company and the Board of ~ngineers
of Rivers and Harbors, Washington, D.C.
The resolution was adopted by the following vote;-
Trustees,Blank,Cunningham,Eschelbach,McCaffrey and McNellis.
Noes, Trustees, None,
Absent, Trustees, None. Attest; Daniel McSweeney, City Clerk·
The above resolution was filed in Book of Resolutions at pag~ ¢ ~v~lume 2.
The reports of the City Building Inspector, City Marshal, Electrical Inspector, Fir~
Chief, City Nurse, Haalth Officer and City Clerk for the month ending April 30th were next read.
The report of the-City Clerk showed the following balances in the various funds;-

On motion by Trustee Cunningham seconded by Trustee Eschelbach the reports were accepte~
as read.

The claims having been audited by the finance committee Trustee McOaffrey moved they be
paid. The motion was seconded by Trustee Blank and regularly carried.
There being no further business before the board Trustee Blank moved to adjourn until
Thursday, May 15th,1924, at 7;30 o'clock p.~. The motion was seconded by Trustee McCaffrey and
regularly carried.
