CITY OF SOUTit SAN FRANCISCO,HELD MONDAY,
OCTOBER 19TH,1925.
The regular, meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of South San Francisco was
held in the City Ha~l ~,Ionday evening, October 19th,1925.
The meeting was called to order at 7:LO O'clock D.m. by trustee H.F.McNellis, President
of the Board,
ROLL CALL.
Roll call found all trustees present, to-wit:-
Trustees, Blank, Cunningham,Eschelbach,McCaffrey and 51cNellis.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and. there being no errors or omissions
were approved as read.
A conm~unication w~s received from Letter Howard asking on behalf of neighbors in the
vicinity of Olive and California Avenues that a street light be placed there. Referred to the
street committee. The street committee instructed the clerk to order the light ~olaced as requested.
George ¥.Cushing, contractor paving alleys under proceedings No55 asked for an extension
of sixty days time, in which to complete his contract. On motion by trustee Blank, seconded by
Trustee EcCaffrey ~nd regularly carried the request was granted.
An answer w~s receipted from the Southern Pacific Company concerning an easement over
their tracks at Oran~e. Avenue 5nd Third Street and Orange Avenue and Railroad Avenue, and stating
that the necessary easements would be forwarded in a few days. Filed.
Marie Cagnacc requested permission to ins'tall a gasoline tank and pum.p at his place of
business on B~den Ave. Permission granted.
George Acosta made a similar request to store gaso.line at his place of business on
Linden Avenue. Re~!uest granted.
Panama Pacific Exposition Lodge No § made application for a permit to hold ~ dance in
Fraternal Hall Wednesday evening November 25th, to continue until ~ a.m. Permission granted.
The ~,.~rket Street Railway Company replied to the city's requesting information as to
the installation of signals and Dower supply for same at the crossing of Orange Avenue and their
tracks, stating the desired information would be furnished as soon as available.
City attorney John F.Davis presented his resignation, to take effect on or about January
1st, 1926. z~es ignation accepted.
An application for a soft drink license was received from A.Grabarisi, the Poodle Dog
Cafe. License granted.
,A petition signed by a large number of property owners, residents~, and citizens was
received asking %hat a se~er be placed in Mission Road from the south end of block l0 to the
~tandard 0il Company's pl~-:nt-..lei'erred to the city engineer for a report at %he next meeting.
l(otice w~s received from the State Railroad Commission stating a hearing would be held
in the State Building, San Francisco On Tuesday, 0~tober 20th,1925 at 10 A.M in the matter of
the Application of the Peop].e of the State of California for an order authorizing the construction
of s State highway crossing under the tracks of the Southern Pacific Company and the South San
Francisco Relt Railway, at South San Francisco. President ~IcNeltis advised as many trustees snd
other ci~izes to attend the meeting as could possibly af±'ord the time.
The new water rate .~.~nedule adopted and allowed by the ~%ailroad Commi[sion was submitted
to the bo[rd. As the rates show a considerable increase the matter of requesting tlhe water company
to bid for the privilege of distributing water to the cYmmunity was taken up. The city attorney
was requested to ~ive the board ~n opinion at the next meeting. The clerk was instructed to
write the water company and ask for a i st of.of the number of hydrants, the sizes, locations and
the number of singles and doubles.
John i{iordan appeared before the bo~rd on behalf off l{uth chapter ,Eastern Star and
requested a permit to hold a dance on Saturday evening, October Z!, Permit granted.
~ohn ~osta aaked the board to consider a reduction in the a~ount of the assessment o$
his new house on Grand Avenue. After discussion no action was taken.
City Trustee Blank brought up the matter of an 8" sewer at the steel works. Referred to
City Engineer~__'~neese.
A report was received of the stoppage of the main ~ewer in Grand Avenue near Eucalyptus.
Referred to the engineer for investigation. Engineer Y_ueese reported the bond of contractor robin
still held. and if the sewer he constructed is not completed for acceptance at once tt~e b<,nds~en
will be notii'ied.
Editor Hodgkins of the Journal extended the Board of Trustees an invitation to meet
Senator Samual Shortridge at a dinner to be given in his honor under the susoices of the South San
~rancisco Merchants Association Wednesday October £1st, at noon. -~
Joe Walker, representing the ~Zanufacturer's Association appeared before the board and
reported a shortage in the payment for the flout of ~245.26. As the board had paid the city's share
previously no action was taken on the report.
The matter of repairing 'the city hall roof was ne:~t taSen up. Trustee Cunningham stated
the cost of repairing would be approximately ~200. He stated he would confer with the contractor the
the following morning.
The reportsof the School Nurse, City Treasurer and City Clerk for the month ending
September ~0th,1925 were ne~t read. The report of the ~ity Olerk for the month showed the followin~
balances in z~e various funds,-General Fund ~4982.20, Y~ibrary Fund, $855.25, 191~ Sewer fund,
$~571.74,"!919 Bonds",$125.23,"1923 Sewer ~und",~15,865.66, Street Imp. Fund SZ3.00, Revolving
Fund,S100.00 Street Funds ~1492.69. Balance in all funds, v23,874.58. On motion by trustee
McCaffrey, seconded by trustee Blank and reoul~rly carried the reports were adopted ss read.

The claims having been audited by the finance committee Trustee Eschelbach moved they
be paid. The motion was seconded by trustee Blank and regularly carried.
There being no further business before the board trustee HcCaffrey moved to adjourn .
