The regular meeting of the City Council of the City of.South San Francisco was held in the City Hall Monday evening, October 17th,1927. The meeting was called to order at 7;50 o'clock p.m. by Councilman A.J.Eschelbach, Mayor of South San Francisco. Roll Call. Roll call found all the members of the council present, to-wit;- ..... · R.Tibbetts, A.J Eschel!?ach. Councilmen A.Hynding, R.Lloyd, ~,,I.M~nucciani, . The minutes of the ~revious meeting were read. There bein~ no errors or omissions Councilman _,. ~ ~,~nucciani and regularly ~-~ Tibbetts moved they be sdopted as read. T~e motion was seconded by ~ouncilman ~' carried. A reply from the City of Berkeley was received concerning the city's request for a copy of their ordinance covering the burning of grass on vacant lots. Uhe rep~y state~ the City of Berkeley has no ordinance covering the subject, but does tke worz of burning off the grass under State Act.f,~S197 of the State of California. The cit~ attorney was ~n~ ~ructed to prepare ~'roceedings nez% year in time to begin ti~e u~ork. Chief Belloni received a conmmnication from the California £tate Automobile Association concerni the ere,~tion of s'~o~,.,_ signals at railroad .~,~rade crossin~s~ . The Assocation states that there is no law i ~-~ California com~ellin~_ motoriste to sto~ at railroad ,~ra~e crossings, git attorney, s, Coleberd stated he would investigate ti~e matter. Accordin ~ly Councilman Lloyd moved that the outfits be ~.urchased, by the chairman of the ,~urchasin!7 committee. The motion waa seconde~ by Councilman ~',"nucc~'an and regularly carried. ~ayor Eschelbach stated Contractor ~tickle would prepare plans and srecifications for the new fire house, would furnish the same free to :~he city if awarded the contract after bidding, and if not successful bidder woul8 charge the city a r,:~asonable fi~!.~ure for the plans and specifications. This of~ was satis£actory to tke council. Councilman Lloyd stated great dsnger exists at the Southern Pacific railroad grade cros~ing at and ~wift avenues. That the filling between the tracks should extend the £ull width of the s~reet and between all the tracks. The clerk was instructed to v:ri~e the railroad company and re~uest that the improvement be made a~ the ear~iest convenience. Jules Ferre stated he was unable to secure a~ sewer passage at Linden Avenue Extension and San bruno Road on account of !he STrinj Valley ¥;ater Co' pipe ~.~ in ds~!meter being on the sev:er leve~ ~an,~rmno Road under the ~..~ ~'ermiss~on was granted to run a ~'e,.'.er acros~ .~inden ~.venue on the west side of sumervision of Councilman Tibbetts. Councilman H~mding reverted that Fire Chief ~[ur?hy was in town recently and wished to know the distance in miles and time from South San Francisco to the i,~i]ls Air ?crt, a:d also wished to know ii' the City oi' ' outh San Francisco could give aJ~d in case o±' i'ire at the ~ort. The clerk %~'as instructed t write the fire chief givin~ the distance and run~:~ing time to the ?crt, and also state that the city of Oouth~. San Francisco is willin? to do its best with the limited a~,~arat~s~ . on hand,ere, and when more equipment arrives the city would be in a position to co-operate effectively. aiayor Escnelbach re orted that Lir. Kordos of the Metal & Thermit Cor~'-oration is desirous of knowin~:r when he can secure the use Of the Ball 'L '~ ~ ..... ~ro~nc,~s for his men. He was instructed bu Mayor Eschelbach to make his request in writing, givin~ beC%er snd more details of the work desired to be done.
